Portuguese With Carla & Friends Anmeldelser

only started recently but love how the site builds on scientifically proven language learning methods and is honestly just so much fun 🤓😍🥰

It was none than Carla and Marlon who encouraged me to decide on Portuguese and set out on this journey. Muito obrigado.

This is an amazingly well-structured course that is both very engaging and fun and also based on the top-notch methods to learn languages (I know since I am a linguist and a translator myself). The amount of effort and dedication Carla, Marlon and the team have put into it will make you captivated and wanting to put same amount of effort into your learning. I practice with the course every day and looking forward to it each time. So cool!

The most imaginative and immersive online course to learn European Portuguese, created and run “hands on”by two personable and empathetic native Portuguese speakers with backup. If you want to learn to communicate and understand European Portuguese this is the course for you. And very good value. For novices and others. Once started you’ll be hooked. Highly recommended

I signed up to the Portuguese with Carla just 2 weeks ago and it's exactly what I was looking for. I self-taught Portuguese for my forthcoming trip to Algarve but I want to learn the correct pronunciation and understand native speakers.

What an excellent website and course. I found out about Portuguese with Carla through ChatGPT of all things and maybe one day I'll write about my experience. I've been using Duolingo which I like for gamification but it's not European Portuguese. I appreciate how much work Carla and Marlon have put into the site and I've completed the Pre-journey. I'd highly recommend this site if you want to learn European Portuguese.
The other great thing is that I wasn't sure if it would cater to me as I'm not a beginner though I found the evening learn in a group sessions a bit too intense for my tired evening self. Another great thing which I found out after I join is that they hold group sessions for different levels so I'll join that at some point too.

I have been taking the "Portuguese with Carla" classes for about two years and am almost through with the self-paced program. I can honestly say that this is one of the best language programs on the internet because the student gets to listen to native speakers speaking at a normal cadence as one would encounter in a real-life situation. It is certainly get your comprehension up to speed in a hurry.

I've tried many times to find a suitable resource to help me learn Portuguese and I'm delighted that I discovered Portuguese with Carla! It's very well structured, supportive and makes learning fun.

I signed up to the wonderful Portuguese with Carla just over a week ago and it's exactly what I was looking for. I knew my self-taught Brazilian Portuguese might not be so well understood for my forthcoming trip to The Azores (and any future trips to Portugal), and wanted to learn the correct pronunciation and differences, and real language of European Portuguese, not just that of limited Brazilian CD courses. I also want to progress in the language that I've come to really love. The website has so much excellent content (and more added all the time), including from the podcasts that they were doing, and it's very immersive. Although I have some prior knowledge, starting with the Pre-Journey chapters has already taught me so much and been the right thing to do. As a very visual person I love Carla and Marlon's approach with the video sequences, which are fun and entertaining; their clear explanations teach you so much, and the chemistry between them and calmness makes learning a joy; it's like they are in the room with you. There is no pressure, or fear of getting things wrong, just gentle encouragement and you just want to learn. I haven't yet joined in on one of the live speaking sessions with a native speaker but plan to in due course. Muito obrigada Carla and Marlon, the course is amazing and makes me wonder why all language courses aren't like this!

Have just completed one chapter of The Journey. Carla and Marlon are great to listen to and watch. They talk to the camera like they are talking to me. Their acting in the video clips seems very natural, not like they are acting at all. The explanations of how to pronounce letters and words, and shadowing the phrases, has been really helpful as Portuguese pronunciation is nothing like English. I have very much enjoyed this chapter and looking forward to the next.

Learning a new language is not really my thing. I am the type who gets bored and loses focus very quickly. I moved to Portugal recently and have been really struggling getting my head around the language. I finally came across Portuguese with Carla and decided to give it a try. I must say that in just two weeks I am starting to understand when I hear others speak Portuguese. I now feel I am on the right track.

I have only just begun the course but I can already appreciate its quality, structure and effectiveness. It is easy and fun to engage with. I am looking forward to go on this journey.

Fantastic self-paced course in European Portuguese. I have finished 3 out of 51 chapters so far and love it. Chapter 1 seems to be more challenging and time consuming to complete.

- lots of information on language and culture
- scientifically backed methodical training
- a lovable couple of skilled teachers, witty and thus very motivating

Fantastic website. Very well thought out, structured programme to learn European Portuguese. Thorough, engaging, fun. Easy to stay motivated. The chemistry between Carla and Marlon is an important part of the appeal, but the depth of thought and detail of the Journey is what makes this stand out as a language learning site. It is hard to imagine anything better.

Really happy with my subscription. I am a complete beginner and although the amount of content seems overwhelming I know it is going to progress my learning quickly

My partner and I just returned from our second trip to Portugal. Even though we are still at the start of the program, we were able to speak and understand quite a bit more Portuguese than on our first trip! It was exciting to see the progress and are looking forward to completing the entire Journey. It's an amazing platform and program!

Well organised, well- executed lessons using real pace of communication and real-life scenarios. Useful from the first moment; lots of repetition and useful reviews to make sure we are learning and using the language from the start.

Muito, muito bom! The entire program is stellar. The amount of work they’ve put into developing this program is mind-boggling, honestly. I feel lucky to have found it — and lucky to be starting after they’ve been developing the program over a number of years. The Journey itself is excellent, but they have so many ancillary tools to help us learn, too. They’ve built in a vocabulary learning tool that is great. They have an AI ChatBot to be able to write to it in Portuguese — and it corrects you kindly! The live practice sessions are invaluable, honestly. And they’ve put together a list of other resources to help with the immersion aspect of learning a language.

I’ve only been using it for about three weeks but I am learning so much — comprehension and speaking. And European Portuguese is not easy with the pronunciation being quite different from how it looks on the page.

Also — there are real people behind this program. A team of them. If you need to ask the team a question, it doesn’t feel like a black box.

I cannot recommend the Portuguese with Carla program highly enough!

I started Portuguese with Carla in January 2025 and I am very happy with how much my oral comprehension has improved. I was able to string together some sentences before starting this program, but I struggled with comprehension. I am very pleased with their content, which is quite different than another program I had previously used. I would recommend this program to anyone who wants to learn European Portuguese.
