Don’t buy if your planning to cover…

Don’t buy if your planning to cover grays. Their product does NOTHING. No grays covered, roots still dark, ends still the same color. Drugstore brands do a better job. I’ve been dying my hair for 20 years now and this is the worst hair dye, especially for the price. I wouldn’t be so mad if this was $8, but $30? I normally don’t write reviews but I really need to get the word out. I had a special occasion coming up so I wanted to cover my grays and this did nothing. I waited an extra 10 minutes before rinsing out. It claims 100% gray coverage but not true. Plus in this day and age why do I need to call to get support? Just accept emails, I can send photos that way so it makes more sense.

Save your money!

I ordered color for an upcoming trip. They entered my address wrong on the shipping label, so it got lost in the mail. Panicking I would have gray hair for my trip, I ordered the same color kit to pick up at a color bar near me. Customer service is a joke. Be prepared to wait for up to 30 mins as was my case. After waiting on hold & speaking to two different customer service agents, I was told my second order of color was ready to pick up in store since I never received the first one due to shipping issues. I drove an hour round trip only to find the salon was closed! They did refund me, but they advertise “easy at home color”, and my experience has been the biggest hassle & headache & I STILL don’t have my hair color!

I’ve been using Madison Reed for 5 years

I’ve been using Madison Reed for years. I’ve used a few different colors. Just switched again to Sondrio Brown and my hair is falling out in clumps. The customer service person just keeps saying “I’m sorry” in the most sarcastic voice and there is nothing they can do. Be careful.

THIEVES!

THIEVES!! I booked the Brentwood location in good faith and went and was told they weren’t really a salon, just an express color and I would not be happy with the highlights I could get there. Literally I was told I would not be happy with their services. They don’t do lowlights.

So I left AND THE CHARGED ME 82.59 CANCELLATION FEE. They said nothing to me at the time. I was right there. They changed me behind my back

I used this two times. my hair began coming out, yes falling out! more and more. not sure why, but this is a warning to others. it sounds like such a natural healthy alternative o other colors, but its BAD!

I emailed Madison Reed regarding an order that was processed on August 15th. I followed up with them on August 17th due to non responsiveness. I am following up with them again on August 26th. Clearly there is no one overseeing their customer service department.

Have been using Madison Reed hair color for a year and my hair has thinned plus the color doesn't last or completely cover gray. It is not gentle on the hair--midleading advertising.

ColorSolve Creates Color Problems

This review is for their ColorSolve Shampoo & Conditioner. I am brunette so I ordered the brunette volumizing set. The "color shot" for brunettes is cobalt blue and it stains everything it touches. The hair color stains less than this shampoo. I called MR and was told to use gloves when washing my hair. Seriously?! The floor in my shower is bright white; no way will I risk staining it with a shampoo. The shampoo/conditioner is nothing special; I urge you to save your money and shop at Target or Walgreen's.

Charged 50% for cancelling 2 days in advanced! Do not use them for in-person service.

I made an appointment for highlights at Madison Reed Flat Iron location. I canceled two days beforehand and was charged 50% of the service fee! I was not made aware of this cancellation policy upon cancelling and their customer service does not exist. You try their chatbot, it tells you to call. You call, you're sent to a voicemail. There's no email for customer support. I've disputed the charge on my card and hopefully that will get someone to contact me. Madison Reed, if you're reading this, please make this right. This was my first experience with Madison Reed and if they don't refund me, I will never be using them again, and telling all my friends to avoid them as well.

Madison Reed cancelled a hair…

Madison Reed cancelled a hair appointment made months ago two hours beforehand due to an issue they knew about last week. The way they treat their customers is incredibly unprofessional. If they cancelled on me, they can cancel on you, too, so make sure you aren't relying on them (like I did) to do your hair right before a big event.

Non existent customer service

Was excited to try MR after seeing the snd on Instagram. Ordered product from the link on IG, paid with my apple pay which has my PO Box as a shipping address. After several weeks I received a notice from FedEx that they cannot deliver to PO Boxes and need an alternative address. When I contacted FedEx they have no record of the package and suggested contacting MR, only 1 number and has placed me on hold for over 30 minutes each time I’ve called. Frustrating! Your not even given an option to contact via email your only option is to browse through their FAQ’s which do not include an option for you sent a package via FedEx knowingly to a PO Box and now it’s lost and I need a refund.
Lesson learned I guess, I will report this and dispute it with my cc company and find an alternative hair color. Buyer beware- the customer service is less than subpar at MR.

Excellent product…Bad Customer support

The product is excellent … the customer service not so much.
Very hard to get a hold of anyone for answers.
For some reason it said that I could not pick up at the store 2 miles from my house, so had to have it shipped and pay the shipping cost!!!

I started using Madison Reed 12 months…

I started using Madison Reed 12 months ago to avoid going to the salon and wanted something less harsh on my hair. The color I choose didn't cover the grays and called several times and spoke with a colorist who sent different shades. Still after 2 weeks, the grays were back. I began noticing my hair was falling out in the shower and also very brittle and dry. I was receiving 2 bottles monthly because my hair was so thick and after 6 months, only needed to use 1. I went to 2 different dermatologists that said it could be age related but to also stop using Madison Reed. I went online to cancel my subscription, but they make it extremely difficult to do that. They don't want to see anyone go. I called several times and an automated system said to leave a message. Finally, I did speak with customer service who said she would cancel my subscription but my July order already shipped on July 5th. Today is July 28th and I still have not received it so I can return it. I checked on my account and it shows it was actually processed to ship on July 19th... the exact day I called to cancel. How ironic! They also told me they would send me an email with free shipping label, but I never received that. I emailed customer service again for the label, but they said to go online to cancel the order. If you really like Madison Reed products, go to Ulta Beauty to buy them and don't sign up for something that you are held hostage for. If you're hair is falling out or feels dry and brittle, stop using this product. I recently learned there is a pending lawsuit for a harsh chemical added to their products that causes hair loss. All I want is to be done with this company and be able to get my refund for an order they shipped out that I never received.

OMG $165 for brassy ORANGE highlights!!!

Quality dye, but everything else is maximally obnoxious

Credit where credit is due: Madison Reed hair dye is pretty good stuff. I have unfortunately developed an allergy to PPD, and it's one of the few dyes out there that I can use without feeling like the fire of a thousand suns is ravaging my scalp. But the quality is outweighed by the general obnoxiousness of the whole outfit. The punitive markup if you don't subscribe . . . The fact that paused subscriptions "helpfully" unpause themselves (I now have a package en route to an address that is no longer mine and I cannot access; thanks a bundle, Madison Reed!) . . . The overfriendly, glossily condescending "you-go-girlboss" tone of the website . . . Long story short, I'm done.

I'd be a big fan if (a) I could buy this product without having to pay more for the privilege of ordering on my own schedule; and (less importantly, but I've got to get this off my chest) (b) The website weren't such a slick, overproduced, self-important digital boutique. I'm sure it workshopped well with the target demographic and I'm just a curmudgeonly outlier, but I really, truly do not want to hear about "confidence" and "beauty" from a company whose profits are driven by the stigma against visible female aging.

Anyway, time to get funky with the henna, I guess.

Bright Blonde to Grey

I went to cosmetology school for 1 1/2 years and then worked in the Jean Madeline training salon in Philly for 5 years so I know about color and usually do my own single process touch-up and highlights. Now that I have older eyes, I've been missing spots in the back of my head, so I went into Madison Reed as a walk in. My friend orders the dye kit so i thought I would try them. I was paired up with Alexis. I asked to see the color chart and we agreed on a base that gave more definition, Sienna Brown then I specifically told Alexis ," I want butter blond partial highlights that pop! MIne are growing out about 2 inches from the scalp now." She agreed. The base color went well except I noticed the shampooist didn't lift the hair while washing the brown color so it washed over my old highlights making them dull. High-lift blond grabs color so you have to protect either by saturating it with conditioner or doing a good job keeping the highlighted hair away from the base color while rinsing. I didn't say anything cause we were doing the next step of partial highlights so I figure I would get my "pop" back. Alexis put alot of time and energy doing the highlights and kept checking to see lift. When it was the right "butter blonde" she showed me and I agreed it was perfect. So excited. Went to shampoo bowl and the shampooist said Alexis wants me to put a toner on and do you want a gloss after. I told her "first of all, I don't want a toner because my hair grabs grey and I want my highlights nice and bright" She said she had to ask Alexis. She came back and I thought we were on the same page. Something was put in my hair and i had to sit for 15 min. I thought it was the colorless gloss. Got back to the chair and uncovered my hair. It was ash and all my highlights were gone. I knew right away it was a toner. The wrong toner! So Wrong! I asked Alexis why she ordered a toner and she denied that she told the shampooist to put one in... I've been in the business for so long it's hard to pull the wool over my eyes at this point. She knew she did wrong but kept denying that it was a toner! Gaslighting! I had to calm myself down. I told myself,"She is a young girl in her early 20's and she doesn't have experience with blondes." I told her the only way to get rid of this grey toner is to throw highlights in again. A color stripper would damage the whole hair. I asked her to put some around my face and we will leave it at that. I went in at 2pm and now it is 5:30pm. I had to cancel an open house I was supposed to attend for my new real estate career with Keller Williams. I also have to get my photo taken for my business cards the next day. That's why I came in for color. Now I'm a stressing...The manager came over and said to Alexis, "why don't you put a warm tone over the toner, that might fix the gray". I couldn't believe that she was so unknowledgeable!!!! Another toner on top of another will just deposit color, not lift it... I convinced Alexis to throw in the hightlights around my face. I knew there would be damage but I had no choice. By now the salon girls knew what was happening and now I was getting attitude. Alexis put in a few highlights around my face and brought me back to the shampoo bowl to rinse. Not even shampoo the bleach out, just water!!!!. She put water in my eye and down the front of my shirt as her colleagues near by smirked. Oldest passive-agressive trick in the book . In beauty school, we used to do this to clients that gave us a hard time. Now my eye was wet and my shirt soaked and no towel offered. Touche'! What can I do? I just wanted this fixed and to get out of there. The highlights lifted the gray around my face but all in all, the color was not what I came in for. It's an ash blonde which is the exact opposite of what we agreed on. Stopped by my friends house and she agreed it is ashe blonde... Not to damage my hair anymore, I will wait a month and go somewhere else to fix it or I'll end up doing it myself. I had to cancel my photo shot for my business cards for now. I was there for 6 hours and nothing got accomplished except me stressing out and now I have to pay over $200.00. I gave Alexis 15% because she worked so hard but she clearly doesn't know about blonde hair and toners. I will be disputing this with my credit card company. I will never go to Madison Reed again. They don't train there colorists and managers very well as all. So sorry I went in there...

Will my order ever arrive???

Like many others, shipping has been a nightmare. Placed my first order on 6/24, shipped on 6/28, now as of today (7/10) tracking shows pending. Cannot get through to anyone at the 800 # and they don’t return calls. There is nowhere on the site that I have found to virtually chat with customer service. Very disappointed and will be canceling my subscription.
Purchased this color kit because I just moved to a new state and needed my roots touched up in between the move and finding a new colorist. Not a good look MR.
