I spent $30 for 9.5NNA Medium Neutral Blonde. The image on the box was a sofy medium golden blonde. I colored it as instructed and MY HAIR TURNED GREEN! Now I have to spend a lot of money so I can go out of the house! DO NOT USE MADISON REED HAIRCOLOR!!!

I’m 41. I have been coloring my hair since I was 15. My hair has always been thick, glossy, and healthy. A couple of years ago, I decided to try a more “luxurious” line since I was making changes in buying organic and more natural products. I tried Madison reed and wasn’t totally sold on the color or results. So I tried a different color. Still didn’t like the result. It washed out fast and didn’t cover my grays. I spoke with one of their online color experts. They recommended a specific product/color. Tried it. Wasn’t in love, but stuck with it for the last two years anyway. My niece, who I hadn’t seen in a couple of years came to visit and she commented on how my hair looked dry and fried and the color was brassy. So we went to a beauty supply store and got a couple of tubes of a different brand hair color. It was 1/3 of the price of Madison reed and my hair is now restored to what it used to be! It’s glossy and shiny. My grays are fully covered and my hair feels hydrated. My hair is so thankful I didn’t try to kill it again. Can’t believe I spent so much money on this horrible product for the last few years. I was getting depressed and thought it must be because I’m getting older. BS. I just needed to stop using that crap. The only thing I actually enjoyed about the product was the little shampoo and conditioner packets that came with each kit. Which they don’t even sell as a stand-alone product. Never again. Don’t waste your money.
Edit: Thanks for the reply, Madison-Reed. I know how to care for my colored hair. I’ve been coloring it for decades. After switching AWAY from your brand, my hair is once again bouncy, shiny, thick, and full of life. As you can tell from their reply, they have an outstanding marketing and PR department, but that’s about it.

Was very happy with the results of color, shine and how easy it was to do, but then noticed little pieces of hair on my bathroom vanity and sink every time I brushed my hair. Within a couple of weeks, people would ask if I got my haircut, but I hadn’t, it was just breakage from using this product!! I do not recommend this product to anyone!!!

I have been a Pro member since the end of 2023. My initial visit to the salon was great because staff was friendly and did an amazing job with the color and wash. It appears that they were aware that I was a new customer because my return visits have only gotten worse over time.
After my first appointment, I returned in less that 2 week because the color did not cover the greys. The colorist told me that I selected the wrong color and started rattling off numbers and codes to me like I would understand. In my frustration, I told her the whole reason for me paying for the subscription was so I didn't have to do my own hair and I trusted they would select the correct color product for me understanding that my primary concern was grey coverage. We were able to sort that out and I am now content with the color. However, after my first wash, which was an amazing experience, all my other washes have been rushed leaving product on my scalp. I have had to ask the representative to rewash my hair on numerous visits because they barely even give it a thorough wash out.
I have noticed that every time I leave the salon my scalp is so itchy that I have to go home to wash myself. I would recommend you train your staff on how to properly wash your clients' hair.
Another thing I would like clarification about is the fact that if I pick up a kit to do my hair at home, I get the gloss included at no cost but if I choose to do a gloss in the store, I have to pay for the gloss. Please explain how this works?

My hair is severely broken, damaged and falling out in clumps after just 3 color treatments at the Madison Reed salon. I have the photos to prove it.
The color is marketed as “gentle” but I’d been coloring my hair for 2 years prior with an organic salon, box color for years prior to that, and never had a problem like this. I also don’t have a sudden medical condition or health problem, and didn’t change anything else I was doing (same shampoo, etc).
I first went to MR to get affordable color for the holidays. I didn’t notice much damage after the 1st treatment (which was done in 2 visits over 2 days to get color + highlights) but the color looked brassy and awful after just a few weeks. They told me I needed a root touch up and gloss. After the 2nd touch up, I looked at the photo they took of my hair and was horrified. My hair looks like a sick person - broken, fried, all different lengths and sections missing. That’s when I finally went online and read about the questionable ingredients in the color and class action lawsuit.
No other salon does highlights the way Madison Reed does, wherein if you’re covering gray, they color your hair all one base color first, then ask you to come back in a day or two to have highlights placed - redoing the same strands that just got colored. The stylist said this was the only way they do it and was fine for my hair. Every other salon does both base + highlights in one treatment so you’re not double-treating the same hair.
I am so angry and wish I had read the reviews first. I know I won’t receive it, but I want a full refund of every dollar I spent on these color treatments.

However, after only a few applications, I began experiencing severe dryness and irritation on my scalp. At first, I attributed this to the change in water quality, as I had recently moved from New York to Los Angeles. However, as the issues persisted and worsened with each subsequent visit, I became increasingly concerned.
Upon raising my concerns with the salon manager and colorist at the Madison Reed salon, I was advised to add a hydration pro boost to my treatments. Despite following their recommendations, my hair continued to deteriorate, leading to significant breakage and shedding. As someone who takes meticulous care of my hair, using only non-paraben products without sulfates and regularly deep conditioning, I was baffled by these unexpected and devastating results.
It wasn't until I conducted my own research that I discovered the alarming truth about Madison Reed's products. Despite the company's claims of being ammonia-free, the ingredients used in their hair color can still cause hair loss and damage. This revelation has left me feeling betrayed and deeply insecure about the condition of my hair.
As someone who is frequently in the public eye, my appearance is of utmost importance to me, and the current state of my hair has had a profoundly negative impact on my confidence and self-esteem. I am now considering taking legal action against Madison Reed for the harm their products have caused me.
I urge Madison Reed to take immediate action to rectify this situation and provide restitution for the damage inflicted upon my hair. Furthermore, I implore the company to be transparent and forthcoming about the potential risks associated with their products, ensuring that other customers are not subjected to similar experiences.

i have used madison reed for quite awhile and customer service has just gotten worse - actually they have no customer service. When you try to call them you are taken to other sites. I had ordered my color kits to be picked up at the salon in palm beach gardens. they give you 5 days to pick it up and I was very busy so could only get there on the 5th day. they sent me an email saying they are now going to ship it and to reply and let them know my address and if I still want to pick it up, however it was a no reply email.
I spent all day trying to figure out how to reach them and it put me in the most foul mood.Went to salon and they had already put them back on the shelves but put it back together for me. The salon is always empty because they are so impossible to reach.
Bottom line is I will be switching to another on-line service.

There was a "bad batch" of my regular color sent out. Luckily, I noticed that it was off before I colored my hair. I chatted online with a CSR who assured me that everything was fine. The next night my husband and I did a patch test and sure enough, the color was orange. I called customer service and after waiting for 30 minutes to speak to a rep I was told that there was indeed a bad batch and was given a refund. I explained to the rep that I was headed off on vacation and needed a new color before I left but was told that they don't do overnight shipping shipping. Because they would not make this right, I'm now spending my vacation (which includes a formal dinner) with gray roots. I'm so disappointed in Madison Reed for not making this right and will likely switch to another company.

I have been using Madison Reed for about a half year now. It has made my hair so dry. I have to add an ampule of bonding agent to the color to combat the dryness for the last 3-4 boxes of my subscription. Please beware that the ammonia substitute in MR color - ethanolamine is a harsh newer chemical and it may be worse than ammonia. I have found this to be true for my hair. I have since cancelled my subscription and waiting for it to run out. Because they will keep trying to send boxes of color you have to pause your membership for the max allowed time and run the clock out. Not cool. The deception around product ingredients is also not good.

I used to be OK with MR. It was never great, but it was passable. I washed my hair only twice per week to maintain the color, and even at that it would only last5 or so weeks. Now, it's much worse. I leave the color in 15-20 min. longer than recommended, and literally nothing changes in my hair! It's like a fake product.

It is impossible to cancel Madison Reed subscription. The cancel button on the app is not letting me cancel. The customer service number is taking me in an infinite loop by sending me the same cancellation button which in reality does not work. It is the most frustrating experience and now I regret signing up for the subscription.

The product worked well for me but for personal reasons I’ve needed to stop dying my hair. I paused my subscription but the boxes (and charges) kept coming. I cancelled my subscription but the boxes (and charges) kept coming. They want you to click through multiple pages of questions to reach the final cancellation and really it’s none of their business, so I just clicked over and over again on whichever button was on the right. Then I deleted my payment info and my address. But I no longer trust this company; since my pauses and cancellations were ignored how would I know if deleting my payment method and address actually removes them from their system, given that the pauses and cancellations didn’t work. There’s no apparent way to delete the account yourself. Now I have at least 3-4 unused, unneeded, paid for boxes of dye. Given how they operate they don’t deserve to have my data or anyone else’s.

Tried to cancel them 3 times, yet that box of hair dye kept arriving at my apartment. Now I know why, dear reader! If you decide to cancel, realize that you’ve got to keep clicking through like 5 or 6 pages asking you if you really, really want to cancel. And then answer 7 questions about why you want to cancel. In other words, hitting the cancellation button isn’t good enough. Obviously this is super deceptive, and if someone is elderly, that person likely won’t go through all the steps and pages. It’s completely deceptive and likely violates consumer-protection rules in most states. And therefore, I’ll be reporting them to my state AG. Others should do the same.
