Repair Estimate Lottery
I'll write my review of this Company and let you make up your own mind about the standard of trust you should place in this company.
I recently had to send a Fluke Ti400 thermal camera to them for repair from the UK. I paid an evaluation fee of around $250.00. Then received a quote from them for $2629.00 on top of the evaluation fee. Their evaluation was non-specific and just gave a list of items that could possibly be causing the E99 laser focus error.
It stated that the E99 error is consistent with a fault in the laser distance measurement and targeting
subsystem
• Possible degradation or failure within:
• Laser diode assembly
• Laser driver circuitry
• Associated control ICs
You'll see from this that their evaluation fee simply led to them sending me a list of things that might be wrong and providing a quote for a scope of repair that was unknown to them. Its rather like someone quoting to repair a car that won't start, and providing a price for a whole new engine, knowing that they're bound to capture the non-starting issue within the repair cost.
I asked them specifically what was being repaired and they stated that, 'Please note that the exact components to be replaced cannot be definitively identified until the repair process is underway.' So again, how could they quote to replace parts when they'd not done the diagnostic work?? I told them the repair cost was too expensive and to ship it back to me. I then received the following message... Before proceeding with return, I wanted to advise that we have completed a further technical review of the unit and revised the repair estimate. We can offer a reduced repair cost of $1,685.00 to address the autofocus failure. On this basis I asked them to proceed with repair. Communication was poor from here forward, I had to ask if the camera had been repaired and shipped and they had shipped it without notice to me. So, yes, I got my camera back, shockingly, fully repaired and calibrated. I was expecting the worst after my interactions with this company. Would I use them again... Absolutely not.
