My journey with HK Law, particularly my interactions with *NAME REDACTED*, was quite an ordeal. As a first-time homebuyer, I was seeking a reliable advocate to help me navigate the complexities of buying a home. Regrettably, my experience with *NAME REDACTED* at HK Law fell far short of what I had hoped for. Here's a straightforward account of my interactions with him:

Challenges with Communication: I regularly faced difficulties in receiving clear responses from *NAME REDACTED*. Even when I did receive a reply, it often left me with more questions than answers.

Lack of Professionalism: Professionalism was another area where *NAME REDACTED* left much to be desired. My concerns were frequently dismissed, and some responses came across as rather condescending. In my opinion, a legal professional should provide clear, patient, and professional guidance, which regrettably wasn't the case here.

Billing Surprises: The billing discrepancies I came across caught me off guard. These discrepancies seriously made me question the transparency of their billing procedures. I was charged for simple queries and even for a message informing me that *NAME REDACTED* was unavailable to respond to a query. What left me perplexed was the fact that, even when corresponding with *NAME REDACTED*'s secretary, I was billed at *NAME REDACTED*'s rate, and this struck me as rather unfair.

Missing Advocacy: I was hoping for robust legal counsel that would stand up for my best interests. Instead, I received minimal guidance, and it felt like my concerns weren't being taken seriously.

Efficiency Concerns: Efficiency was yet another aspect where my experience lagged. There were significant delays and missed opportunities for negotiation, leaving me anxious and uncertain about the process.

If you're considering working with *NAME REDACTED* at *COMPANY NAME REDACTED* or looking for legal services, I would strongly advise exploring other alternatives. My experience with *NAME REDACTED* and HK Law was far from what I had envisioned, and I hope this review gives you an honest perspective.

Interestingly, I've noticed that other reviews on this platform, particularly the positive ones, also include personal details, yet my negative review was singled out for potential Trustpilot guideline violations.

Nevertheless, in the interest of delivering a candid account of my experiences, I have redacted the exact information that Humphries Kirk Solicitors pointed out.

Dreadful experience after HK law gave 48hrs notice to not represent me in court, leaving me in an awful position to cope on my own. Then hklaw respond to my review by asking me to get in touch via email, but have ignored my emails completely- certainly would not recommend.

Not impressed with the service on sale of property.Would not recommend.

I have made a written enquiry to process a County Court Claim to this company who happen to be in the same town as myself in the West Country. Although the couple of other practices I sent the brief to replied in a couple of days not a word from HK even after chasing. They also still have a 6 months offer for debt collection on their site from New Year 2020 - says it all. Silly really as we are a close knit community around here and such things are discussed in our pubs so does their reputation no good at all.

Friendly and professional staff who were able to accommodate my request within a challenging time frame.

Victoria Pearson of HK’s Dorchester office handled the inheritance dispute and mediation of my father’s estate matter.

Even though I live in Australia, Victoria and her colleagues made dealing with my matter seamless. Communication was swift and the advice provided both honest and realistic at all times.

The service provided in preparation for and during the mediation was very thorough and I felt supported through a highly emotional and stressful time in my life. To obtain the result we did was truly above and beyond what I was expecting.

Our mother died and had made H-K (Dorchester Office) into one of her executors. We were quickly disabused of the idea that we wouldn't have to use them for 1. probate, and 2. selling her flat.
The whole process took from July 2020 to March 2023 for a straightforward estate and sale of flat.
One of the female solicitors (I'm not allowed to mention her name even though all the positive reviews of other branches contain names) was in charge of the case regarding probate. Very bad communication, sometimes a month would pass with no reply and after having copied in one of the partners we got a message back saying "The reply is in dictation".
I was astonished to learn that after having taken over the power of attorney for our mother's estate any and all payments (from stocks, interest on stocks and various refunds) were just poured into HK's general client account. We were not up to date with everything our mother had so we had to trust the lady solicitor on this. In one case an interest payment was mentioned in an email and then not added to the estate accounts; it was only after reminding her about this that the monies were "found" and added to the estate accounts set. I still have no idea if everything pertaining to our mother's estate was actually added to the estate accounts set.
The accounts were haphazard to say the least; on various occasions I had to actually correct them.
At a certain point I got so tired of waiting for the lady solicitor to get in touch with our mother's late accountants ("I'm still waiting to hear from them" was the lady solictor's standard reply) so she could submit her last tax return that I ended up calling the accountants myself, finding out who was in charge of our mother's accounts and asked them to forward the necessary details to the lady solicitor, which they did, and consequently the lady solicitor acted on it.
Regarding the sale of the house: another lady (paralegal), (whose name again I'm not allowed to mention because it is a bad review, yet in all the positive reviews names are mentioned) was in charge of the conveyancing. In this case our mum's flat was part of a set of flats managed by Stonewater, and HK eventually admitted that they are also the acting solicitors to Stonewater. When we asked whether this was a conflict of interest we were told it was not.
We got an offer on the 12/12/2020 for the flat; thanks to slow correspondence between all parties (remember, HK act on behalf of Stonewater for these matters) and the fact that the lady paralegal was out of the office for 2 weeks and nobody covered for her in the meantime, on the 23/03/2021 the offer was withdrawn because they were still a long way from completion.
Then we got another offer on the 02/11/21, and again, due to very slow correspondence and no chasing by the lady paralegal of the buyers unless we nudged her, the sale fell through on the 01/02/22.
The lady paralegal was often very slow in answering emails; and even after calling her and leaving messages she would still take days to reply.
When it came to settling the bills for the conveyancing services I still had questions regarding these and told the lady solicitor not to pay them until we had had a clear explanation, but the bills had been paid immediately, disregarding our request to wait.
So to sum up, terrible correspondence, bad accounting and no sign of them ever chasing anything to get it all wrapped up. Terrible service for the money they received for such a basic probate case.
I have had to republish this as I named names in my first review which was taken down; but hopefully I have been reasonably specific and you will realise who I'm talking about. If I had the choice, I would go to the Bournemouth Office which seems to have excellent reviews and their names have been left up, which of course goes against the rule of "no personal information" but seeing as they're positive reviews I don't suppose it counts..

Very professional and great service to my family during difficult times

Nearly three years after our mother died, we are finally free of HK, who persuaded Mum - inappropriately, in my view - that despite her small and straightforward estate (under the IHT limit, one flat, some cash and securities, three adult children on good terms as heirs; small bequests to grandchildren and charities) they should be appointed professional executors.

This meant we had no option but to use them for both probate and conveyancing as they had pre-sold both services to Mum before her death. They were slow, obstructive, regularly unresponsive and generally unpleasant to deal with over the near-three years it took to wind up the estate.

Were it not for the diligent record-keeping done by my sister, the many errors in the accounts HK kept of Mum's estate would not have been spotted.

Mum died at the end of the first lockdown, in July 2020, which meant that much of the work done on her estate happened during the pandemic, at a time when other businesses everywhere were getting up to speed with remote working and the tools to facilitate that. However, not HK: we had to argue with them to accept digital signatures on documents rather than sending signed items by the unreliable post.

In short: unnecessary upselling of their services as a professional executor and conveyancer to Mum; shoddy record-keeping; dismally bad communication with us, obstructive and unhelpful attitude. Absolutely horrible experience.

It has been an absolute pleasure dealing with Anna Davey and her team at HK. Our house sale was under very difficult circumstances. However, Anna and her team worked through this in a very efficient and professional manner. Anna kept us fully informed throughout the process and we have no hesitation in recommending HK for conveyancing purposes.
