Defective Unit, Fast Repair, Mixed Experience

I’ll try to give a fair and objective review of my experience.

I placed a pre-order in March and received the Deeper Chirp+ 4 in April. I don’t remember the exact dates, but the delivery process was smooth and without issues. Along with the sonar, I purchased a phone mount and a one-year damage and loss insurance plan.

At the end of April, I finally had a chance to test the device on the water. Unfortunately, it did not work properly—the connection kept dropping repeatedly.

On April 25, I contacted customer support. The support agents were always polite, professional, and willing to help. They guided me through various troubleshooting steps, asking me to test different things each time. The main issue was the response time: replies usually came every 3–4 days, which stretched the conversation over an entire month.

Eventually, it was decided that my sonar should be sent to the warranty service center. The technicians later informed me that the device had an issue with an electronic component on the printed circuit board.

The repair process itself was excellent. Shipping the device, repairing it, and receiving it back took less than a week. However, I received my repaired unit back rather than a brand-new replacement.

I also asked whether my insurance period could be extended, since I had been unable to use the sonar for about a month through no fault of my own. Unfortunately, my question was misunderstood and confused with the warranty, and I chose not to pursue the matter further because I simply wanted to get my sonar back as quickly as possible.

Pros
- Polite and supportive customer service.
- Fast warranty repair process.
- The repaired sonar works well (although I have only managed to test it once so far).

Cons
- Customer support responses often took several days.
- After spending nearly €500, I received a repaired device rather than a new replacement. I cannot be completely confident that another issue will not appear in the future.
- Effectively, I received 11 months of usable insurance coverage instead of 12.

Final verdict
I would have rated this experience 4 stars if the insurance period had been extended to compensate for the lost month. I would have given 5 stars if I had received a brand-new replacement unit, considering that I was unable to use the product for the first month of ownership due to a manufacturing defect.

It is entirely possible that both the insurance coverage and the decision to return a repaired unit instead of providing a replacement are fully in line with the company's policies and warranty terms. I am not claiming that Deeper did anything wrong from a contractual standpoint.
However, as a customer, the overall experience still left me feeling that I was not given the highest level of service, especially considering that the device had a manufacturing defect from the very beginning and I was unable to use it for the first month of ownership.

We're pleased to hear that you found our support team polite and helpful throughout the process. At the same time, we completely agree that the response times you experienced were not ideal. During the launch period of several new products, we experienced a significantly higher volume of inquiries than usual, which resulted in slower response times than we aim to provide. This is something we're actively working to improve, and we appreciate your patience throughout the troubleshooting process.

Regarding the repair itself, our standard approach is to repair a device whenever we can fully restore it to factory specifications and verify its functionality through comprehensive testing. In your case, the faulty electronic component was successfully replaced and the sonar passed all post-repair quality control procedures before being returned.

We also appreciate you bringing up the protection plan. It appears there may have been a misunderstanding during the conversation, and we'd be happy to revisit this. Since you were unable to use the sonar while the issue was being investigated and repaired, our team will reach out to you directly to discuss a solution regarding the protection period.

A must for Anglers, Quest Deeper 👍🏻

Delivery was on time the product was well packed and my emails were always answered, wow what a great bit of kit, a must for anglers who like to fish under overhanging trees, brilliant for getting to those hard spots, as for the mapping and navigation it’s brilliant. A must for all anglers.

This is one of the best bait boats on…

This is one of the best bait boats on the market, it has so many good features with it, and they are bringing out more this year for the boat. You can not go wrong with the price compared to other brands,that are maybe twice the price of a deeper quest bait boat.
It’s simply the best, easy to set up and a great price, easy to order straight from deeper themselves.
I can’t wait to use it for my trip to France.

I bought a Deeper Sonar that was used for one season. After only a few uses, the temperature sensor started showing incorrect readings, so I contacted Deeper and sent it in as a warranty claim.

They concluded that the cause was user error, without giving any proper explanation, and therefore stated that it was not covered under warranty. Instead, they offered me a more expensive model with a 25% discount, but even after the discount it is still cheaper to buy it from a store here in Norway.

I explained that the sonar was used for ice fishing in temperatures between -10°C and -20°C, where it is possible for the sealing gasket to shrink and allow water to enter. However, they claimed that the seal is designed for such temperatures, without testing the product under those actual conditions.

As a user, it is difficult to do anything wrong when attaching the cover correctly, with the arrows aligned toward each other exactly as described in the instructions.

I find this very disappointing when buying such an expensive product and expecting better quality and customer service. To me, this feels like a disposable one-season product, and I would strongly advise others not to buy it.

We would like to clarify that our conclusion was not based on assumptions. During the inspection, water ingress was confirmed inside the device, and extensive waterproofness testing was performed afterwards. This included a high-pressure enclosure test, inspection of the sealing gasket, and a waterproof immersion test. No cracks, housing defects, gasket defects, or other manufacturing issues were identified.

We also considered your question regarding ice fishing temperatures. Deeper devices are designed to operate in temperatures ranging from -20°C to +40°C, and both the sealing gasket and enclosure are specifically engineered to maintain waterproof integrity within this operating range. Deeper sonars are regularly used for ice fishing in conditions similar to those you described.

While it is not possible to determine the exact moment when water entered the device, our diagnostic testing confirmed that the sonar enclosure and seal remained waterproof and no manufacturing defects were identified. In cases such as this, the most common causes of water ingress are the top cover not being fully secured before use or the device being exposed to moisture for an extended period without the top cover installed. Because the device passed all waterproofness tests and no manufacturing defect was found, we could not classify the failure as a warranty case.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and are genuinely sorry that we could not provide the outcome you were hoping for.

Delivery time was horrendous

Delivery time was horrendous. The website did suggest delays in shipping. However that implies a few extra days potentially.
3-4 weeks later the order had still not been shipped and customer service just repeated the same excuses in generic responses. I cancelled my order with them as they don't deserve my thousands of pounds for a bait boat. Taking my money to a company that can supply what they offer and have much better customer service. Buy with caution.

You are absolutely right that the delays were far longer than acceptable. Due to extremely high demand for Deeper Quest during the start of the season, we experienced a backlog that unfortunately affected shipping times more severely than anticipated.

This is not the level of service we aim to provide, and we fully understand your frustration. There's a lesson to learn for us here.

Service and User Experience

I bought the boat as soon as the presale started. The setup and usage are simple and convenient. The boat itself is lightweight, and the battery life is excellent. I’ve used it quite a lot without any major issues.
After some time, I noticed connection problems. When the boat was around 200 meters away, it would lose connection with the controller. I contacted the Deeper support team for assistance and brought the boat in for service. Within a few days, they replaced the faulty part.
The service experience was excellent.
