Highest savings rate.

I don't know why this bank has such a low rating on here. I've been banking with them (just an online savings account) for over 4 years and have had no issues. Their savings rate is among the highest in the nation and there's no holding period either. I haven't had a requirement to contact customer service so I wouldn't know from that experience like many other reviewers. But from my experience with banking with them, it's 5/5 for the highest savings rate.

If I could give a negative 10 stars I would! Horrible experience. I have been a customer for over 2 years and for the first time tried to move money to an external account. What a nightmare!!!

Be cautious when applying with this bank

Be cautious when applying with this institution. I’m genuinely concerned about having my personal information on file with them now. I recently applied for a high‑yield savings account and was denied, despite having an 835 credit score and a six‑figure income — and my wife earns the same. Given our financial profile, the denial makes no sense, and it raises red flags about how they handle applications and information. At this point, I’m uneasy about the data I shared with them.

They have locked me out of my account for "review". After repeated calls they have not given me answers about why or when I'll get access to my funds.

Predatory institution

Predatory institution. Was seduced by the low interest rate on equipment financing for an auto lift, payment was supposed to be $92/mo. To my surprise that ballooned to $110/mo when the first payment was withdrawn. I called to ask why, they said they placed insurance on it. There was apparently a clause in the contract (who reads beyond interest rate & payment?) stating the machinery needed insurance so they “insured” it for me. Fast forward three years my last payment was withdrawn including a fee of $379 - THREE HUNDRED SEVENTY NINE DOLLARS. I put a stop payment on it and immediately called. Again with this exploitative contract, buried in the small print, $379 due to the bank upon loan termination. It should be illegal to fleece people in this way. I would have legitimately been better off getting financing from a loan shark. $2750 piece of equipment cost me $4300+. DO NOT trust these thieves.

Perfect HYSA experience

These reviews are baffling to me. CIT has been the best HYSA experience I've had to date with my albeit limited experience. There have rarely been any issues, and in the rare cases that something goes wrong, their native english speaking staff resolve it immediately. Never had any real issue whatsoever in 5 years

Applied for an HYSA

Applied for an HYSA. The application did not ask anything regarding my job or annual income. The only information I believed that they could use to assess the application was SSN and tax payer information. With a 800+ credit score, having a doctoral degree and making a 6 digit income, my application was "rejected". Called their customer care to know what information do they use to assess an application. Got even more weird response that they can be any reasons from where I apply and what identity information they get from SSN. So, I assume that anyone who is not a citizen and applied from a city like St Louis will have a rejection like I had. Seems like they think they are so "competitive" with a monopoly that there are no other banks available for people to do HYSA!

Irritable - inpatient representative

Prepared to deposit more money - had questions because I did not see my husband's name on what is supposed to be a "joint" account. Was informed that husband would require his own user/password in order to lock into the account. The issue - it the account is not viewed as "joint" and per the representative "you are the primary and the only one that can document a beneficiary - how will that work? I die - husband is "not primary" will the account go to him? or to our son? This account does not work the way other "joint" accounts do. Individual was "testy" and not patient - repeated to me the guidelines regarding my husband requiring his own log in information. Very disappointment in the service - representatives should be more patient and less irritable.

No people, just AI

I tried to open an account with CIT Bank. This was for a savings account. Their AI system determined that I was too great of a risk to deposit money into their bank. I called and actually got to speak with a person, but they could not tell me why it was too risky to accept my money. The computer runs the bank.
I opened an account at Chase. The rate is a bit lower there, but at least it is run by human beings.

This was by far one of the worst online…

This was by far one of the worst online banks I’ve ever experienced! , I opened an account 3 weeks ago & set up my direct deposit. The minute I tried too send multiple Zelle payments I was locked out of my account with all of my money still in there! .. I contacted customer service & they told me my account is under review & that there’s nothing else they can tell me! & they also said that this could take weeks too resolve & that I will receive a email referring too the matter & that’s all they could tell me! … I highly do not recommend anyone banking with CIT, they will lock your account with all your money inside of it & tell you there’s nothing they can do.

I was locked out of my account on a…

I was locked out of my account on a Friday afternoon without notice or explanation other than fraud department would be in touch.I was never called or emailed by them at all . Saturday I called again spoke with a manager at the call center who told me that the fraud was due to a problem with my initial deposit to open the account over 2 months prior. Several deposits from my my job as well as my tax return had been made by ach with no mention of problem or issue.Again was never notified of anything regarding the initial deposit. I had no access to my statements or anything which left me in a bind without money for several days.Terrible customer service.I also had an unauthorized charge a month ago and the merchant refunded the money to my account which I never received I called multiple times to check the status and finally spoke with an agent that was so rude as well as not knowledgeable about my account what so ever.Ok it's been another 2 days and my account is still frozen and I have not been contacted by the fraud team yet.This is something that will change my opinions about banking forever .I feel so violated.All said and done nobody from the fraud department ever called me and there was no fraud found in my account .I would never use this bank if it were the last bank on planet Earth.

I was a loyal customer for over 12…

UPDATE: CIT reached out to me on Trust pilot for more information. I gave it to them. Nothing was done. Never heard from them again besides their marketing emails trying to get me to bank with them again. My husband also closed his acct as well. I have referred hundreds of clients here over the years, and it disgusts me that this bank has become unsafe. After reading recent reviews I am not the only one to experience this. It seems the bank is now run by AI and the system has many errors and bugs. How scary being locked out of your money with no warning or real reason. DO NOT BANK HERE!

I was a loyal customer for over 12 years and genuinely loved banking with CIT. Unfortunately, after the ownership change in 2022, the experience completely deteriorated.

My account was suddenly flagged internally as “do not do business with” due to what I was told was likely a system error. I only discovered this when I attempted to update my account from my maiden name to my married name — something they refused to process until the mysterious flag was cleared.

For six months, I called weekly trying to resolve the issue. Every time I was told, “We’re waiting to hear back from another department. We can’t call them — we only communicate through email.” Meanwhile, I was assured repeatedly that my funds were safe.

Then, without warning, my account was closed. I received an email saying it had been shut down and was immediately locked out. At the time, I had over $40,000 in the account and no access to it.

Customer service refused to explain why the account was closed and said I would receive a letter. The letter arrived — and provided no explanation at all.

After 12 years as a customer, referring many others to the bank, this treatment feels like a complete betrayal of trust. The lack of transparency, the inability to correct what appears to have been a system error, and the abrupt closure without explanation is unacceptable.

I cannot recommend banking here anymore. If this can happen to a long-standing customer with no prior issues, it could happen to anyone

Worst banking experience ever.

On 1-7-2026, I received an email alert advising that a "certificate of deposit" had been automatically renewed on 12-27-2025 - exactly one day after the ten-day grace period in which I could have taken some other action. I received no email to advise when maturity was approaching. They did make a notice available within the online banking profile, which of course one would never see unless they had some reason to log in - and unlike other institutions, they did not send an email to advise that such a communication had been posted. The email alert that was finally sent to advise of automatic renewal was NOT sent on the day of the renewal event; it was intentionally delayed such that the grace period would be exhausted before I received it. As I result, I was forced to pay about $600 in penalties to recover my investment. Over decades of investing in CDs with numerous banks, I have never been treated like this, and I regard this to be an unscrupulous scam. Perhaps this will serve as a forewarning to others; I will certainly never use them again for anything.

Don’t believe anything that they tell…

Don’t believe anything that they tell you! Was promised a higher rate when I was looking at moving my money. They promised a higher interest rate so I stayed with them. They said that no written verification of their offer was available. Turns out the increased rate never happened and when I called them and was also at the same time looking at my statements my account was blocked, and got a message that my statements were no longer available.
Should be called Crooked Bank!

Lubaki Nkete and Erin Hodges put my account in collections while I was out due to cancer treatments. They never sent me a final notice and put accounts in collections that were not even 30 days past due. They decided to stop responding and gave no guidance on how to proceed with net accounts that needed to be paid that were not past due. The collection agency didnt even have the correct invoices and these 2 ladies knew I was going through cancer treatments. Disgusting people and actions! DO NOT USE CIT

One day out of the blue I was no longer…

One day out of the blue I was no longer able to get into my account. I answered the same questions over and over on the phone with different people, it was a complete hassle getting back into my account. Account was closed after 4 months as soon as I was finally able to get back into my account.

I have had a Premium savings account…

I have had a Premium savings account with Cit for 2 years and have had no problems with them. I am surprised to read all the negative comments and no positive ones. I'm sure I am not the only one who has had good service from Cit. Makes you wonder if something is not right about these reviews. P.S. I know several other people who are Cit customers and have not had any problems with them. ?????

Haven't been able to log in for 5 days now. This is ridiculous.. and definitely not the first time this has happened. It's a routine occurrence with their app/website.

Stay away form this bank

Stay away form this bank. They allow people to open accounts under your name with no identifiable info. The do not follow the Know Your Customer (KYC) laws and when you contact them to inquire and report fraud... THEY DO NOT HAVE A FRAUD DEPT who you can speak to or obtain key info. SHADY AF. Better going with a legitimate bank

They sent me a message asking for more info on February 13 2026, to date no followup. It is clear this same template reply is posted under many reviews posted here, which suggests the response is procedural rather than genuine. Customers deserve more than an automated redirection. These "replies" from them want them to look responsive and move it out of public view but its just a PR strategy.

Recientemente me registré en su plataforma y realicé el proceso de inscripción para el servicio de Zelle. Inicialmente, al usar un correo electrónico ya asociado a otra entidad (un error común que intenté corregir), el sistema me solicitó cambiarlo. Así lo hice: cambié el email original a secundario y me inscribí exitosamente con un nuevo correo primario. El sistema me permitió usar Zelle, recibir una transferencia y validar mi cuenta.
Sin previo aviso ni comunicación clara sobre una violación de términos, CIT Bank procedió a bloquear mi acceso a Zelle al día siguiente, de forma unilateral.
Lo que es mucho más grave y totalmente inaceptable es que la acción de CIT Bank no solo me afectó a mí en su plataforma, sino que, de alguna manera, esta institución envió una alerta que provocó el bloqueo de mi servicio Zelle en mi otro banco principal.

I am writing this review to warn future customers about the arbitrariness and irresponsibility in the handling of essential services by CIT Bank.
I recently registered on their platform and completed the enrollment process for the Zelle service. Initially, when using an email already associated with another entity (a common mistake I immediately tried to correct), the system prompted me to change it. I did so: I moved the original email to secondary and successfully enrolled with a new primary email. The system allowed me to use Zelle, receive a transfer, and validate my account.
Without any prior warning or clear communication regarding a terms violation, CIT Bank proceeded to block my access to Zelle the next day, unilaterally.
What is far more serious and completely unacceptable is that CIT Bank's action did not just affect me on their platform; somehow, this institution triggered an alert that caused the blocking of my Zelle service at my other main bank.
I feel deeply harmed by the disproportionate and arbitrary actions of CIT Bank. Instead of communicating or requesting clarification, they opted for a block that has had direct and negative consequences on my ability to manage my finances at other institutions.
This is not just an inconvenience; it is a demonstration of risk management and customer care that is, at best, negligent, and at worst, abusive. I demand an explanation and a resolution to this unjustified block that has created a chain problem for my financial life.
Warning to Future Customers: Exercise extreme caution regarding this bank's unilateral actions, which can have severe repercussions beyond their own platform
