Horrible money grabbing scheme, they just get folks where they can.
Clean air zone charge is fair but the way it’s played by the council is shameful.
I just applied for a refund for the clean air zone charge few hours after I booked my car to go to Bristol the next day. I was going to go to Bristol Uni to an open day but plans changed.
I applied for refund clearly as that £9 means a lot to me sadly, otherwise I wouldn’t have bothered right.!
Few days later I get an email stating that they can’t give refunds for such reason.
“We are unable to process refunds where a payment has been made but the vehicle then didn't enter the zone on that date.“
Surely that’s the exact feathery should give someone their money back!?? My car didn’t for a second effect the emissions in Bristol that day.
So ye, whatever excuse they can make up they run with it and your hard earned cash.

Bristol councillors Take a look at your trustpilot reviews and do the decent thing and ***KING resign. £189 PCN to drive through the City No signage on approach, no honest appeal procedure.. Fascist behaviour that would make Putin wince.. Thanks for stealing food off my family's table. It will be a cold day in hell before I visit Bristol again. ***K YOU!

this council is the worst council in the UK,

I have never experienced such poor customer experience in my 35-year working career. They take £500 from me in a flash for a planning application, I cancel it after waiting more than 7 months for an answer!!! Then I am told I can't have a refund. There is not a single person who can speak to me about this, it's email-only communication. If you were a private business, you would have no business! Shocking and feel sorry for the staff who have to put up with your terrible decisions on processes and customer values

I was denied a copy of cctv and lied to and despite contating the mayor who was very rude and hostile to me more than once, they have ignored my DPA request. I am of the opinion that the only explanation is racial praejudice, Bristol do not like antipodeans. My right to cctv in an RTA is further to article 15 of the HR act and UK law. They have withheld this cctv pruposefully and illegally re an accident on the 8.2.2020 in Baldwin Stteet when hit by a negligent taxi driver.they destroyed the cctv clearly intentionally knowing I had requested it and have withheld it deliberately . this is illegal and the Mayor was asked to intervene but he did not.Lying is the same as alcoholism. However, we only keep CCTV images for 28 days.

How to apply

two official certified documents, which together show your name, date of birth and current address
a recent full face photo of you
details of the footage you want to see, for example, the date, time and location

The Post Office offers a certification service whereby copies of original I.D. documents can be certified as true.
How we'll respond

We'll deal with your request within one calendar month. If we can give you the footage you've asked for well send you a DVD.

We can refuse your request if sharing the footage will put a criminal investigation at risk.

If the footage relates to a crime and the police have the footage, they'll tell you if you can see it.

If you want footage of a road traffic collision, your insurance company will have to request it.
Why we have CCTV cameras

Bristol Council operate a CAZ that is a cynical toll on through traffic. It does not reduce pollution because through traffic has nowhere to go to avoid the polluted areas. It is also unfair on motorists from Wales. Also it os 'not possible' to refund tolls that proved unnecessarily paid for. Also if 12midnight passes a second toll is levied. Just a cynical money-grubbing tactic, probably outsourced to an agent company

Theft and corruption seems the only answer to these actions of Bristol Council

I had two bus gate violations within two minutes. The sun was in my eyes (on their camera you can see the sun shining on the pavement !) and all the directions I used to travel in Bristol had been changed. The second bus gate I saw at the last moment and actually tried to swerve off but would have caused an accident. Mitigating circumstances, I would have thought but no.. I coughed up £70.
I've now got four emission zone violation tickets. Two of which they say I have received but I hadn't. My car which the government encouraged us to buy in 2015 is now a dirty polluter, which I should have known about before entering Bristol. It's an E6 not an E5 by three month margin so is dirty ! Evidently clean enough for driving in Bath low emissions zone. They say that previous bills have been sent and are now claiming for £378. While accepting that I drove into a bus gate, the signage is poor and confusing and for being aware of how polluting your car might be, will depend on where you drive. I actually tried to speak to someone on the phone this morning and after being number one in the queue, I waited half an hour. The lady answered and said she would put me through to the right department and then put me back on the same queue. This time still number one in queue but no answer. I have always hated driving to Bristol. 25 changes in speed limits getting there and when getting there, they have changed the traffic flow yet again.

Have been waiting for a £180 refund for over 2 months now. Was told it would take 28 days to process. Phone lines always have over 10 people in the queue, employer understanably, wont allow me the time out of my working day to make this unnecessarily long call, have already received a warning for the call i did manage to wait and get through on. All they tell me on twitter is that there is a refund request but they can't tell me anymore because it breaks GDPR. Havnt replied to my email. Would go out of my way not to use any of their services again.

Just received the latest bill for the same PCN, now £189 ,???
Tried emailing, tried calling all day to sort this issue but to no effect. No one is responding to my emails and there is no phone line to the correct department to resolve this issue. I have proof of payment on my bank statement, but yet they send harassment bill's and fretning Court proceedings, don't they know that family's are under so much stress with the cost of living and struggle to deal with this type of bullying.

Miss Ffion Richards from Bristol City Council is completely useless on all levels. She doesn't bother to reply to any my questions.
I sent EIRC certificate in October 2022 and they lost in their office! They did not reply that they did not receive it and want me now to pay a penalty charge for their fault!
The case is going to the court now.

Much like many other reviewers (and I suspect many more to come), I have just become a victim of the emissions zone rip off on my way to the airport. No prior warning about the A370 segment until it was too late, no option to exit before entering the zone and £60 fine for 2 mins in the zone. UTTER THIEVES. This has nothing to do with clean air - if it was they would simply ban cars. It is about revenue generation. Top tip - AVOID BRISTOL ALTOGETHER.
Update: It looks like the online payment system hasn't completed (no surprise as it is run by Crapita) and the phone option would not work either. UTTERLY USELESS

Several months ago I got a rude letter through my door, telling residents to ensure their bins were moved off of the road, after collection. I don't have an issue with receiving a generic letter, but I do have a problem with the wording and the hypocrisy. Each week, I leave my bins out neatly, only to have them either thrown back into my garden or scattered down the road.

I took this opportunity to highlight my concerns to the council. I emailed explaining the above, but also sent some pictures of my road, which is always left filthy after they have been to collect the rubbish. After my complaint (34403637), the council got back to me, taking absolutely no responsibility, despite being the ones to charge me and decide to employ the Bristol Waste Company. I was told they would get back to me - all I got was a useless email, essentially saying my issue wasn't important enough to warrant a reply. Some advice: stop wasting your time with terribly written letters and you might have time to reply.

On 15/03, I got back in touch with the council saying that, not only had I not had a proper response to my complaint, but that there continued to be rubbish left scattered all over my road. I sent yet more images. By 21/04, I still hadn't heard anything and followed up, yet again sharing more images. I asked for a response within a week and here we are... several months later, with no reply and no solution.

Genuinely, the council's complaints team is a waste of money. If they aren't going to actually help council tax-paying citizens, what is the point? Similarly, my council tax has increased this year, yet Bristol Waste Company remain incapable of doing even a basic job. Not only is leaving rubbish everywhere disrespectful, but it also shows a significant lack of pride in their work. I would hope that the staff within both of these hang their heads in shame or, even better, start doing their job.

Very disappointing council. They don’t care about congestion they’re trying to make money off of us. If they really did care about the city’s congestion then they wouldn’t have unnecessary temporary traffic lights around. For example, the bottom of Stoke Lane has had temporary traffic lights for about 6 months now. No maintenance work has taken place at all within those 6 months. They’re just trying to spend the rest of their budget on pointless work that’s ultimately ruining this city. If there’s one thing I could change about this city, it’d be the council.

Bristol City Council Tax Department. I have been waiting three months for an answer to a Council Tax enquiry which is causing me a great deal of distress.
I have had no acknowledgement of the enquiry or any faith in their "System" that anyone is dealing with it.
They are the most heartless and inefficient organisation that I have had the misfortune to come across. As I have withheld funds to try and get an answer I fully expect a Summons for my efforts. If I do I will go to the Government Ombudsman.
All they care about is the money.... I will be glad when I no longer have anything to do with them....

Just thought I'd write this to thank Rob the receptionist at Bristol City Council. He went above and beyond to help with my query, nothing was too much trouble. Well done for employing friendly, helpful staff - makes such a difference to talk to real people instead of chatbots!!

I've had 4 or 5 CAZ penaltys in one week. I hate this new system I can't even notice the sign and when I do it's too late to turn around. I'm allowed to drive my vehicle in the city of Bath with no penalty. But in Bristol my car is over the admission level. They just after money I have none now. No warning straight fines! I hate Bristol now!

If I could put zero I would.
Clean Air Zone charges - i pay now I know, but no sympathy given that the first time it happened I had no idea - Not from Bristol - I appealed, but apparently I should have seen the signs among all of the road layout changes while trying to navigate my way through.

Its implying I deliberately lied - How dare they!!
