Hired at YUL airport. The printed and the electronic damage reports differed, car delivered with damage present. Returned the car with no new damage and received the closing of contract confirming 0 charge. Later in the week I receive an email from damage recovery with an unintelligible form to fill out. Two weeks later I receive an email from damage recovery alleging damage. Still the company has not supplied even a damage report, just a statement saying they are repairing the car and I will have to pay by cheque. I have car hire excess insurance but they are unlikely to pay against an unspecified repair without any receipts or reports. I booked the manager's pick vehicle via Expedia, clearly they picked a vehicle with known damage and could not even agree on different rental agreements what level of damage was present. Avoid Alamo at all cost, as they do not reply to emails and zero attempt has been made by the company to confirm the level of damage using CCTV and similarly the only way to dispute the charge is a Canadian number I cannot access. This is pretty much criminal activity, the fact they want funds by cheque suggests money laundering and I am unsure how I will recover this loss on the basis of a sentence in an email "we are now repairing the vehicle", as I doubt any insurance company would accept that statement. Nor were they willing to provide me with the necessary words on how the damage occurred in order to file an insurance claim.
Well, in the end Alamo did not proceed with charging me. It took 4 weeks to finally produce a damage report, I challenged them to verify the damage on the airport CCTV and they relented in the charge. The whole experience was weird, worrying and despite the positive final outcome unnecessarily distressing.

Watch out for the damage claims when you return the car. I hired a car for 3 days and a did a thorough review of the vehicle before I initially drove off. I took photo and video evidence. On returning the vehicle, Alamo claimed that the key was damaged (later retracted) and the tyre had a gouge. The scratch was so small (fingernail size) that it could not properly be identified on photos or videos previously taken. Be very careful as this trick may cost you up to £200 in damage claims and admin fees (£80 administrative fees). It is not worth renting from Alamo with are so many other options where the customer experience is so much better and for a similar price.

Very unsafe and disappointing experience

We booked an appointment to collect the car in the morning, but even with a confirmed time we had to wait over 40 minutes because they said the car was not yet available.

In the middle of winter, they gave us a car with summer tyres, which was extremely dangerous. We slipped on the road many times and genuinely feared for our safety.

Because of this, we contacted their Aberdeen branch, who were very kind, helpful, and professional, and arranged a car change. Unfortunately, this still wasted almost three hours due to a mistake that was not ours.

What made this even worse was the lack of care from the Glasgow branch. There was not even an apology from the person who answered my call, and they showed no concern for customer safety at all. They only offered a one-hour extension, which was completely unfair given the circumstances.

A stressful, unsafe, and frustrating experience. I would not recommend this company, especially in winter conditions.

Wir haben ein Auto in Buenos Aires gemietet. Am Ende der Fahrt gaben wir es zurück, der Vetrag wurde "geschlossen". Nach ca. zwei Wochen wurden aber mehr als 800 € extra für angebliche Strafmandate von der Kreditkarte abgebucht, obwohl wir nur für € 500,00 garantiert hatten. Das ist unseriös.

I rented a car from Alamo/Enterprise in Cologne Germany and returned it undamaged, documented with clear time-stamped photos.

Days later, the company charged €1,200 with no explanation, no damage report, no photos, no invoice, no contact.

I opened a formal case and a chargeback because they failed to provide any proof for the charge.

This experience shows a serious issue in their post-rental billing process. Anyone planning to rent a car here should document everything carefully.

I will update this review based on how the company resolves the situation.

Ich hatte eine tolle Erfahrung mit ALAMO, gebucht über DiscoverCars! Die Buchung war schnell und einfach, die Website bot übersichtliche Informationen und wettbewerbsfähige Preise. Der Kundenservice war hilfsbereit und zuvorkommend, und die Abholung des Wagens verlief reibungslos. Insgesamt ist es eine zuverlässige Plattform, um weltweit günstige Mietwagen zu finden. Absolut empfehlenswert!

On my 50th decided to do route 66 with my wife.
Arrived to pick up the car i ordered a sporty car ie dodge challanger v8 there were no sporty v8 he offered me a v8 which looked like suv hardly sporty .we ended up with a weak mustang eco boost convertable so you can imagine the fun every night of our road trip trying to get the suitcase out of the back seat as only 1 fitted in the boot, what a let down .
Then the next bit spent an hr waiting for gps as they were all old did not work and were flat they managed to get one but some of the letters were touch sensative and did not work the manager dealing with us said dont worry i put 300 dollars as a refund this was on 4 sep 2025
Waited a month no refund what a surprise. Emailed them they have said it will take up to another 90 days yes 4 months to give you a 300 dollar refund what a JOKE
To sum it up if your after a certain car dont bother as when you arrive all they got is SHIT .Then with refunds i personally think they drag it out as long as possible so you give up . ABSOLUTLELY DISGUSTING for a company if that size. Do yourself a favour and dont bother

Our friends from Guatemala hired a car online with Hola and when they arrived at Waverley Train station in Edinburgh to collect their car they were told that his driving licence had to be translated from Spanish and without this he could not get the car even though he had already paid $332. They did not refund or apologise for this incredible inconvenience.

Wir haben über Mietwagen-check.at einen Mietwagen in Österreich vom 1. bis 9. Juli gebucht – inklusive sämtlicher Versicherungen.
Wir haben eine Anzahlung geleistet, der Restbetrag sollte vor Ort bezahlt werden.
Am Mietschalter fragte die Mitarbeiterin nach unserer Reservierungsnummer, die sie im System fand. Sie zeigte uns erneut, was wir gebucht hatten, und fragte uns wegen einer Zusatzversicherung für sämtlichen Schäden usw.
Wir haben mit „ Ja diese haben wir schon“ geantwortet und daraufhin bat sie um unseren Führerschein sowie die Kreditkarte zur Zahlung.

Am nächsten Tag stellten wir fest, dass der auf der Kreditkarte reservierte Betrag nicht mit dem Restbetrag übereinstimmte, den wir in Österreich hätten zahlen sollen.
Unser Freund aus Schweden rief Ihr Unternehmen an, um die Situation zu klären. Ihm wurde mitgeteilt, dass alles in Ordnung sei und dass der höhere Betrag nur vorübergehend reserviert werde, bis wir das Auto zurückgeben.
Abgebucht werde lediglich der in Österreich vereinbarte Betrag. Das war für uns in Ordnung.

Am Abreisetag ging ich noch einmal zum Schalter, um alles zu überprüfen. Wieder wurde mir bestätigt, dass alles in Ordnung sei und wir die Rechnung im Laufe des Tages per E-Mail erhalten würden, in der die endgültigen Details ersichtlich seien.

Dann kam die Rechnung der Firma ALAMO!!!!!!!!!!
Der volle Betrag von 7.458,80 SEK (€675,01) wurde abgebucht, statt des in Österreich vereinbarten Restbetrags von 4.308,83 SEK (€388,56) – also 3.149,97 SEK (€286,45) mehr als vereinbart.
Außerdem erhielten wir eine Woche später die Rechnung von Mietwagen-check.at i.h.v €388,56.- , da wir laut Firma die Reservierung nicht beansprucht haben (Fahrzeug nicht abgeholt) bzw. nicht storniert haben.

Nach mehrmaligen Kontaktaufnahmen mit BEIDEN Firmen kamen wir zu keiner Klärung des Problems. Anscheinend hat die Dame vor Ort am Schalter uns falsch verstanden und eine NEUE Reservierung durchgeführt (mit Versicherung) und die bestehende Reservierung von Mietwagen-Check.at einfach ignoriert.

Beide Firmen haben nach mehrmaliger Bitte um Klärung einfach den Kontakt abgebrochen.
Und wir sind nun einfach auf den doppelten Kosten sitzen geblieben!

Daher die nur 1 Stern Bewertung unsererseits.

Abzocke pur!
Das erinnert stark an Betrug – am Ende wurde der Mietpreis für das Auto einfach verdoppelt!
Man zahlt die Versicherung online und nochmal am Terminal – völlige Frechheit.
Auf Rückmeldung wartet man natürlich vergeblich.
Absolut nicht zu empfehlen! Nie wieder!

!!! Ergänzung: Ich habe euch schon zweimal per E-Mail geschrieben... Beruhigt habt ihr mich. :) Wahrscheinlich lacht ihr immer noch.

Ich will euch einfach nur vergessen, als würdet ihr gar nicht existieren.

I hired a budget car from Granada in Spain and dropping it off in Santander airport. I went to the train station to pick up the car and was upgraded to a top quality all singing and dancing car. They tried to sell their waiver insurance but took out a far cheaper one from the UK so declined that. I returned it to Santander airport and was offered a quarter tank of full ticket for my next hire as I returned it with more fuel than when I picked it up. I declined this as I was delighted with the upgrade. The deposit was returned the next day.
Looking at all the poor reviews I nearly went for another company but I’m pleased I went with Alamo.

Having returned a rented a car on holiday in France at the end of August, I came back to England to find an email stating an added charge 349,94Euros. There was no explanation of the cost but it had been charged against the credit card details that they held. Fast forward 6 weeks: numerous chat messages, phone calls etc. I have not had a single acknowledgment from the branch responsible (Bergerac Airport) and whenever I speak to Alamo Customer Services, they tell me that they have no jurisdictions over the sites dealings with customers and can only sent messages to them - which has already been done at least 3 or 4 times and no response from the Manager, Branch or Area Manager. I am still 349,94Euros out of pocket with nobody willing to contact me as to how they can help, let alone resolve this. Do not use these cowboys. I'd rather pay extra and use someone else.

When I first booked my car, I was a bit hesitant because of the many negative reviews I had read. However, my own experience with Alamo turned out to be excellent.
• The office is very close to the airport.
• Service was fast, professional, and customer-oriented.
• The pickup process was clear, with photos and proper documentation.
• The car itself was new, clean, and stylish.
• The security deposit was released within 24 hours, which was a great surprise.

In the past, I had bad experiences with other companies (especially the scam company Direct Rent in Bucharest, Romania). This time, Alamo really changed my perspective and gave me the best rental experience so far.

Highly recommended!

Nous avons réservé un Toyota RAV4 du 24 août au 03 septembre 2025, dans l'ensemble nous sommes satisfait de la prestation. Le véhicule est celui que nous avions réservé, la restitution de la voiture a été rapide. Quand j'ai reçu par mail la facture j'ai eu la surprise que l'option "service carburant" d'un montant de 85,37 dollars canadien nous a été facturé. Cette dernière aurait permis de rendre le réservoir vide. Sachant que nous avons rendu le réservoir plein je me rend au comptoir de l'aéroport de Montréal et je rencontre le responsable, ce dernier m'affirme que dans la demi-heure je devrais recevoir par mail une facture de remboursement et ma carte de crédit du montant. J'ai reçu le remboursement dans les heures qui suivent.
Nous tenons à remercier le personnel pour leur rapidité et leur professionalisme.
