My husband ( the grasshopper ) decided that he wanted to visit Austria for the Easter weekend. As he is only able to tear himself away from work for a long weekend, Wednesday through Saturday, I suggested we concentrate on one area rather than the whole country: we had a lot to experience in a short time.

Barbara planned a three day itinerary for us that was flexible enough to accommodate our spontaneous style of travel. There were enough options to keep us engaged from early morning to late night and each day's activities kept us focused on one area of the city and helped minimize travel time from our hotel in the "Old City".

Her directions and instructions for transit were invaluable and precise, down to train and boat schedules. We felt like we were able to experience a great deal of Vienna, its' culture, and history in our short visit. Barbara's suggestions for dining and her "hidden gems" were well suited to our tastes.

Her skillful communication and understanding of our travel desires provided us with many pleasant memories. We would have missed so much if we did not have her as our remote concierge.

We were a family of 9 travelling for first time to Vienna -Salzburg from India. With the online frauds, I was skeptical of making full payment for a day trip basis reviews only. I took the plunge and have no regrets. Was pleasantly surprised with the ever helpful service & organisation.

Barbara is efficient, so very prompt in her response , highly professional yet open to customisation.

The day trip from Vienna to Salzburg ( 7.30 am to 8 pm) itinerary went through many changes due to my multiple requests but she was always willing to help with her very good & patient suggestions on timing , travel with kids , non-touristy concert options , places to visit , local restaurant, shopping places , vehicle to fit 9 of us by good spirited Driver Fikret etc. etc
We had a very comfortable ride with a small stop each , at picturesque places , both while going in and coming back .

At Salzburg she had already arranged for our tickets so no waiting time , and the service of a highly learned and experienced narrator, M/s Naomi, who knew all the historical places of interest at Salzburg including the charming snippets of Sound of Music. The walk through Mozart museum, cemetery and the Cathedral was very interesting and Naomi added a choc tasting session just for fun. All this , mixed with her humour , made our day trip memorable and asking for more . One day was not enough.

Overall a fantastic experience and a dream fulfilled , thanks to Barbara, who is like a friend you can trust, in the manner she responds to make you feel comfortable, customised arrangements and helpful local advice that’s not available on google.

I booked my trip last minute. Barbara was prompt and professional. She was able to provide an itinerary with all my wishes. Claudia, the travel guide was beyond wonderful!!! She was also able to get all the information on such short notice of where my grandmother grew up. I would highly recommend Vienna Unwrapped.

After discovering Barbara’s excellent Vienna Unwrapped website, we asked her to help us plan our weeklong trip. We provided a list of places and things that interested us, focusing on history and music, and asked her to make sure we had an opportunity to have authentic, non-tourist Viennese experiences and eat classic Austrian cuisine. She skillfully worked our requests into an itinerary that conveniently grouped various sites together day by day and gave us plenty of opportunities for unexpected discoveries along the way. She booked two private tours for us with excellent guides and drivers that gave us even more enjoyment than we had expected. Her restaurant recommendations were superb, and her special touches—things we would never have known about otherwise—helped to make the trip the best vacation we’ve ever taken.

Thanks to Barbara we celebrated the perfect New Year's Eve in Vienna! Her service is brilliant. She found the perfect guide to introduce 2 adults and 2 children to Vienna - including introducing us to the best schnitzel and sacher torte in town. The restaurants Barbara recommended for lunch and dinner were exemplary. She found us an utterly charming hotel in a quiet street in a perfect location that I would never have found on my own. I couldn't work out how to book tickets for the New Year's Eve concert we wanted to attend but she helped me sort it all out. Afterward we had a perfect family dinner in a restaurant she had booked for us. Vienna at New Years is very, very busy but we had a magical family holiday thanks to Vienna Unwrapped. We highly recommend Barbara if you are planning a trip to Vienna.

Our initial contact with Barbara came when I was searching "Vienna Balls" on the internet and Vienna Unwrapped and Barbara Cacao popped up. I could not figure out how to get ball tickets, nor get the proper information on the balls. Barbara seemed to have all the answers and she did. She contacted and set us up with the hotel who handled all the Ball tickets and she had a wealth of knowledge on which balls to attend and which rooms to have seats in at each ball. After Barbara planned our Vienna itinerary, I thought she was so useful, we continued to use her to map out the rest of our trip through Central Europe.
Barbara was always prompt with her answers to our questions and extremely reliable and timely. When she said she would call at 1:00 P.M., at 1:00 P.M. sharp, the phone would ring.
She suggested things we never would have thought of on our own and she directed us in a way that saved us much more money then we spent on her fee.
Barbara was definitely worth her weight in gold. My husband and I could not have experienced this trip without her..

We have been back for over two months from our trip to Vienna, but it seems like just yesterday. I finally have time to write this review.

Barbara was very easy to work with. She listened to what we were interested in, asked thoughtful questions, and really tailored our experience. We wanted our 9-year old to be the focus of our plans and Barbara came through.

A few favorites: The Haus der Musik was my son's favorite place. We went back three times. Directing the orchestra is fun for children of all ages.

Favorite restaurant was Gourmet Inn Freyenstein - Thimiggasse 11, A-1180 Vienna (+43 664 43 90 837). Note that this is a fine dining restaurant and about a 20-minute drive out of the city center.

ALL of the Christmas Markets were great. Our son particularly liked the beautiful ice skating trails at the large market at the Rathaus. And I did too! Very well done and I would highly recommend it.

The Ring Hotel was clean and comfortable - and the location is excellent. But it lacked the "wow" factor - it did not feel special at all. On our next visit, we would likely stay elsewhere.

Our family of five decided we wanted to spend New Years Eve in Vienna after a friend shared exquisite pictures from their trip. Never having visited Austria, we started our research early and were so glad we found Barbara and Vienna Unwrapped! From the first email, Barbara was responsive, friendly and adaptive to our needs as a family with teenagers. Thanks to her help, the trip exceeded all of our expectations. Vienna is such a beautiful city! Her collaborative approach assured we made the most of our time there. From reservations at iconic and "locals" restaurants (so nice not to wait for a table or be turned away), to "must see" sites, it was a trip we will always remember. Barbara, you are a hidden gem and we are so glad we found you! Thank you for a memorable family trip!

The visit to the Otto Wagner Spital and Church was one of the most inspiring and moving experiences of our life! The historical context was so strong and disturbing but the architecture of the Church overwhelmed this feeling and renewed our faith in humanity. Without doubt, this is a very special place indeed. It must be preserved at all costs.The visit was well organised and the guide was an exceptional person - top class.

Fantastic experience! This was our first time using Barbara; her Itinerary plan was ideal for our family. Per our request, she planned places off the tourist path venues including the Museum of Military History which we all thoroughly enjoyed. We were delighted to find the car and uniform from Franz Ferdinand there among many interesting relics. We loved our hidden tours and the special quintet concert with young clarinetist, the delightful Conditorei and the pretty shops she recommended. The maps and tram directions were very helpful.

Barbara Cacao planned the perfect scenic drive for us from Innsbruck to Vienna and then on to Prague. She planned how we could spend each day with great restaurant and cultural activity ideas. Her guide should be a published book. I highly recommend her and would be thrilled if she offered her service for other European cities as well!!

Barbara has been impressively prompt and helpful, coming up with excellent suggestions for our trip to Vienna this Christmas. I found her help extremely useful, particularly as I wasn't sure where we could eat over Christmas and what visitor attractions and shops would be open. Six of us traveled to Vienna in late May 2018. I can't think of anything bad to say about the trip that Barbara arranged for us.

We did tours of Vienna, day tours of Wachau Valley (w/wine tasting and Danube boat ride), Salzburg, Budapest and Bratislava. Each and every tour guide was excellent - knowledgeable, scholarly and very friendly and easy going - a pleasure all around especially on the longer days!

The restaurant suggestions that Barbara made were all great. I think we ate either lunch or dinner at 6 or so restaurants she referred us to and all were very very good. That is a difficult feat to pull off, in my opinion.

So, yes if you are traveling to Vienna and Central Europe I would, without reservation recommend Vienna Unwrapped.

We recently spent a month in Vienna. Prior to our trip, Barbara helped us with the following:
1. Assessment and comparison of apartments. We provided our basic requirements as well as what we would like to have. She gave us a comprehensive overview of the units we were considering along with pros and cons of each neighborhood. Her insights were invaluable and helped us decide on the perfect apartment. We could not have done this without her.
2. Recommendations for self-catering needs. She gave us information on markets, grocery stores, butchers, and take-away that were convenient to our apartment. We didn’t waste time on trial and error and were able to comfortably settle in very quickly.
3. Miscellaneous information. Barbara also reviewed and recommended particular health clubs, spas and laundry services which again saved us time and hassle.
4. Tour recommendations. We relied on her book and particular thoughts on tours within Vienna and beyond.

Barbara responded to our initial request for “help” immediately, professionally and comprehensively. I highly recommend her services, standard and custom, for anyone traveling to Vienna. Her insights are from a local point-of-view as well as from the heart. She’s terrific!
