From my first call enquiring about the vehicle I was interested in, to scheduling an appointment to look round the car and test drive, all interactions were highly professional, friendly and informative.
There was no sales pressure.
They offered a generous p/x helping secure the deal and I left a very content customer, who would happily recommend a visit to The Hertford Car Company. I am now the proud owner of a very nice, well equipped Land Rover Discovery Sport.

Unfortunately, my experience with The Hertford Car Company remains unresolved and the matter is now subject to court proceedings.

I purchased a BMW 435d for £11,989 in November 2025. Shortly after purchase I reported several issues and returned the vehicle to the dealer in December for work to be carried out.

One issue concerned the handbrake cable retaining arrangement beneath the vehicle. In the Defence subsequently filed with the court, the dealer accepts that during the December visit the cable was secured using plastic cable ties.

After the vehicle was returned to me, I subsequently experienced the issue again and exercised my right to reject the vehicle in January 2026.

After my rejection was disputed, I obtained an independent expert inspection of the vehicle and retained photographic and documentary evidence concerning the issue.

Approximately seven months later, after court proceedings had commenced, the dealer offered to refund the £11,989 purchase price and take the vehicle back. However, the proposal did not cover the substantial storage and other costs I had incurred during the intervening period, so we were unable to reach a settlement.

The matter therefore remains unresolved and will continue through the court process.

The vehicle has remained in storage during the dispute and I have retained the relevant correspondence, photographs, independent inspection evidence and other documentation.

This review reflects my own experience as the purchaser of the vehicle. As proceedings remain ongoing, I won’t speculate on the outcome and will update this review once the matter has concluded.

I just bought a car from The Hertford Car Company. It developed a warning message soon after that needed expert attention. Their response? "Whatever it is we'll fix it and it won't cost you a penny". And that's what happened. Faults will always occur and the only thing that helps is a response like that. I'll buy my next car there.

I have never had such a good experience with a car sales. The whole process was so easy. The car was delivered to me within days at a very reasonable cost. The communication before, during and after was excellent.

I have revised this review as having taken the vehicle into Tesla I now faced with a huge bill. I have raised this in a reasonable manner and in the 1st instance received an aggressive phone call back from Westley of which was not really the way to conduct a call in any manner.
the issue was the car was meant to have been inspected before delivery. but the fault list is as follows.

1x Key malfunctioning (even though I pointed this out prior to collection !)

3x seat belts have intermittent faults
front brakes discs and pads scored and worn... mmm a bit of a safety issue here.

4 x rear lights heavily condensating ... I accepted responsibility for 1 but not all 4 this is simply too much.

Front Frunk / bonnet release not working.

so far all they have done is deny responsibility blaming me or the MOT garage for invoicing me a few days late or Tesla for the "you know how bad Tesla's build quality is" i.e. bad workmanship and poor quality build.

I would hazard a guess that this business is a one time purchase company that places very little value on recommendations or repeat clientele.

If you are looking to buy a nice safe reliable car then for me I would avoid them as their after sales really is poor.

if only they took some ownership of their failings this review could have been very positive as it originally was until the true picture arose so glad I do not run my businesses in this way.

Went to see a Porsche Macan, they said we have a Low Mileage Cayenne with £20,000 extras …but dirty & unprepared as it had just come into them.

Great Pre-Sales but unfortunate onsite.
Before arriving on-site, I spoke to two people who went through the car I was inquiring about. The salesperson on the phone valued my car, gave a pre-value, spoke about finance and arranged a viewing time.
When I arrived on site, the car was not ready, they washed the car in front of me because I was 15 - 20 minutes early. Upon inspection, I noticed the driving wing mirror enclosure was damaged, actually broken and hanging out the grip closure, there was inadequate water in the coolant, below minimum and the battery wasn't even charged to test out the electric motor. So my 1hr 20mins journey was wasted. I spoke to one of the sales team colleagues, he tried to squeeze in the wing mirror, didn't even know about the electric mode on the car and told me there was no battery charge on the car, then said the water coolant was okay.
Waste of time, was not helping me at all and didn't seem bothered about the issues on the car.
Unfortunate not a great experience, so i sent a polite email declining my interest in purchasing the car and asked for a refund on my reservation.
