They deduct fees as they like- I don't trust this company
I'm not sure when this company began not caring about their products nor their customer service. All the negative reviews here are spot on. Shipping is expensive. Returning something? More high shipping. More importantly if you return something- you will NOT be credited the same amount you paid for the item (should be = product plus taxes). Even when you return items within their return window, they will deduct whatever they want (as extra fees, or whatever) before they credit you back. You won't even understand the amount they credit back - it's a completely different number than what would make sense. I recently purchased a number of tops (after many years of not really buying). The quality (the cut and design) were strange so it didn't sit right on me at all. I returned these tops within the return window, and they took "extra fees" off of every single one. To make it even more confusing, they processed each item as a separate transaction (not by ORDER as is normal) so as each transaction posted, I could not tell what credit (which was too little) was for which top.
It will take way too much time to try to ask them to explain why they shortchanged me, and I have a feeling their customer service will give me lip service and do nothing to remedy the situation. I think this is actually HOW they operate, the processes and the culture come from the top. I will never purchase from Soft Surroundings again. There are many better places to spend your money - they don't really offer anything you couldn't find a similar item elsewhere. Their prices are also not "so low you can't resist". I had no idea their service became so scammy until I had this bad experience then came here to share my experience and saw many others had the same. They have lost me as a customer.
You’ll regret it
Buyers, don’t do it. Items get back ordered VERY QUICKLY. I’ve been waiting for nearly a month. I paid for two day shipping. Nope.
If you're in a hurry...think twice.
If you're in a hurry to receive your order, shop elsewhere. I ordered three pairs of pants on February 19th. When they hadn't shipped a week later, I contacted customer service.
Was told that they were on backorder (there was NO indication of this status when I placed the order) but, and I quote "The good news is you’ve secured your spot in the next shipment, which is expected to go out by March 6, 2026".
Flash forward to March 8th...still not shipped. Contacted customer service AGAIN. Was told that they are opening a new warehouse to better serve me...blah, blah, blah and "As a result, there may be a short delay in having your order shipped. Your order is projected to ship by March 20, 2026".
March 20th?!? A short delay?!? IF these items ever do ship, I will receive them more than a month after they were ordered! Unacceptable. Soft Surroundings items are not inexpensive and at this price point, one expects better customer service.
They (Soft Surroundings) were recently purchase by Coldwater Creek. If they don't get their act together and restore their customer service to what it once was, I don't expect that they will be around for long.
You can't operate as a "higher-end" retailer and survive with this type of service. After reading other reviews here, I pray that these item will work for me and don't have to be returned as apparently that process is another unfortunate, frustrating and costly can of worms.

I wish I had read these reviews before my recent order. What a disappointment! This whole operation seems a LITTLE sketch and a LOT unorganized! I ordered a pretty dress and a tunic and crop pants for a special birthday trip to Florida. I haven’t used Soft Surroundings for a while so decided to give it a whirl as I remembered really liking the clothes years ago, even though they were a little pricey…I thought I had plenty of time since it was 2 weeks to the trip and items are usually shipped within 1-2 days, right?? lol More than a week later I still had not received an e-mail about my order being shipped. I called to inquire and discovered that not only had my order not been shipped, something had been on backorder but had now been received and everything was in the warehouse getting ready to be shipped tomorrow! Ok…Too late to get here with regular shipping. I asked about expedited shipping and was told because of the “new warehouse” expedited shipping was not available. (??? What??) It was also “too late” to cancel the order. Before calling customer service, I had not received ANY information about any of this. Isn’t there generally a communication if an item(s) is on backorder and there will be a delay in shipping? What does a “new warehouse” have to do with expedited shipping? Just ridiculous. I guess Soft Surroundings thinks we have all just fallen off the turnip truck.
Needless to say, the minute this order arrives, it is going straight back. Never again!

Don’t ever order from this company!! It use to be good but it’s not anymore !! I’ve been fighting with them for over a month to cancel an order because they keep saying it’s gonna be shipped but hasn’t . And today 3 days after my husband passed away they were not empathetic and gave me the song and dance about a new warehouse , blah, blah blah … treated me terribly I’m tired of their BS if I get it it’s going back and I’ll dispute the charge with my bank …. Bye bye junk surroundings … your catalog is trash which coincides with the way you treated me while I was grieving the loss of my sweet husband !!
Abysmal
If I could give them a zero, I would. I've shopped here in the past and it used to be a good company, but it appears those days are over. My recent order placed a month ago was finally shipped, but only partially. When I tried to cancel the remaining item, I was told that even though it would be at least another week before it was shipped, it was too late to cancel. The requests to and responses from customer service didn't address my concerns--all I got was excuses and the runaround. I'll never shop here again.
No customer service and poor quality
I was a frequent shopper when Soft Surroundings had brick and mortart stores. I used to love their clothes - good quality and fit very well. Quality has gone significantly down and there is no option on their website to provide feedback - I reached out and they rehash their instructions in the FAQ. The Neera French Terry Tunic (Style 2GE20) is nothing like their catalog picture; it is very stiff and thick - I will not return it and be out of pocket for shipping. The Maize Plaid Velvet Tunic (Style 2GU95) is very thin and cheap made compared to the velvet tops I purchased in their pysical store before they closed them. I do not mind paying the price for a quality item and some customer service.
Don't bother with this company
Used to have very good customer service and prompt delivery….no more. It's awful and the representative I just talked to was hard to understand obviously in another country and very rude. Tried to cancel order that has not even shipped after a week and paying for expedited shipping. Don't bother with this company it's not reliable not even close.

Is This Site A Big Scam??
I put in an order for four items in December, 2025. I quickly received an email informing me that the items were being shipped. I also had a tracking number, which I looked at on occasion, figuring the delivery would take some time. I checked in on 1/3/26 to see the status, and lo and behold it indicated that the item had just been delivered, later that same day (this makes no sense). I checked everywhere...by my door, by the garage, in my mailbox, nada. Thr tracking indicated that the package "arrived at the post office" on 12/30, so I went to the P.O. to see if they could assist. They informed me that there would have been a USPS tracking number if itwas in their inventory, and they had no record of it. So either the whole thing was a scam, including fake tracking info, or the package successfully shipped from the China all the way to my doorstep and then was stolen (from inside my gate). The whole experience was more than fishy. I also emailed the company to try to get more information on the delivery, and needless to say, no one responded. A Big $100-plus Rip-Off.

SIMPLY TERRIBLE. I used to like some of their cotton, velvet and silk clothing. (Mainly when it was on sale).
Now? They send me excessive catalogues and I try over and over, unsuccessfully, to “unsubscribe”*
What the heck? Do the owners operate a cult requiring all the women to wear ugly dated clothing made of cheap toxic materials?
Speaking of toxic, CATALOGUES?! Every week. “No more catalogues!”. “Unsubscribe!”
*Ps why should one “unsubscribe” from something that one never “subscribed”.
On top of the styles and materials, the prices are also insulting.
For the second time in the last year…
For the second time in the last year Soft Surroundings has lied about product order and shipping. The last time the pants were never delivered. I paid extra for 3 day shipping but they don’t tell you that it’s 3 days AFTER it come to their warehouse which could be never. I called on a Friday and customer service said it was shipping that day. On Monday I saw it hadn’t shipped I called customer service again and THEN they tell me that the top was back ordered and it maybe be in the warehouse in a month!! So much for 3 day shipping.
I will never order from them again.

Scam alert
Scam alert! Once a year, I order a sweater. This year, I was enrolled in a program where they charge $16.99 per month for membership. When I caught and brought to their attention, they informed me I had clicked to join and then responded to a follow up email. Nope. Couldn't prove I did this either. Customer service was ridiculous. This will keep me from ever buying another item from them. Watch out for this scam.

Be careful with returns here!!! While returning items is easy, they only issue a partial refund. That means the processing fee, shipping fee, and even sales tax are deducted. They also play a trick with “free shipping”—it’s not actually free and ends up being charged indirectly.
Don't believe anything on SHIPPING
Ordered a red dress for "wear red for women's cardiac health". Per their website. I could pay and get my item in 3 days. Kept waking for my email. By the 3rd was worried so looked at my order number and it hadn't even shipped yet. Talked to someone on line stated it was being shipped. By the 5th still never got an update so called. They stated that it was in shipping again. I finally got an email on 2-5 evening and stated that I will get my package by 2-11! Never would have bought from this company if I knew it was going to take this long! They would only refund$5 because they stated this was the extra that I paid for express. No wonder this company went into chapter 11. Horrible customer service. Told them I wanted to send it back and didn't want it. I will have to pay to send back ! Lesson learned. Never buy from this company again. I only get burned once.
I am very disappointed in the Superla…
I am very disappointed in the Superla Slim leg pants. If I didn’t have a few other slim leg slacks and jeans I would have thought it was my leg shape. When I put them on there was a complete fold up at the back of the knees. I could not find a way to write the review on their website so I could add the picture. I had a pair of khaki slacks exactly like this before but a different brand and I loved those pants! Comfortable, looked great but these were something else. Although made EXACTLY the same, the fold at the back of the knee is something I have never experienced before-and I am 69 so I have purchased a lot of clothes. I am returning but of course I have to pay that $9.99 return fee. I’ve ordered from this company for years and always had the best luck. In the past year I have had several items that were completely wrong sized, poor fit, etc. customer service is no longer helpful. I thought it was just bad luck on my part but this is happening regularly. It looks like after so many years I will no longer be ordering from Soft Surroundings. It has cost me a lot amount of money on clothing I cannot use. Really disappointing as it was one of the only online clothing stores that use to have quality you could count on
Soft Surroundings horrible business operations
Ordered 3 items. Two items took over 2 months to arrive. The 3rd item never arrived. After 3 months, the order was still awaiting fulfillment. Several messages to customer service were made and they are unable to answer why this occurs. Full refund requested. SS days are numbered here! No business can continue to operate like this. Completely unacceptable!

Soft Surroundings signed me up for a rewards membership and charged my credit card without my knowledge or consent. I checked with The BBB and saw there are over multiple complaints about this practice which is still ongoing.
Do NOT buy from this company
Do NOT buy from this company. They do NOT honor gift certificates. They do not have an expiration date on them but when I tried to use mine for over a $100 they told me they would not honor it as it was too old. Probably only a year and a half.
They were rude and extremely unprofessional and unhelpful. So they basically stole my money with no recompense for me. I was actually trying to buy something so they would have made more money but chose not to. No wonder they went bankrupt.
I used to be a good customer, I have a closet full of their dresses which will now be going to Vinted, but I will never shop there again.

I will never buy from soft surroundings again. I bought something online from them an and unknowingly they automatically signed me up for a membership with them that costs me $16.99 every month. Wow! Thats just wrong.
