Our Journey...- After previously running a charter company and training academy from 1999, we realised there was a way we could improve the learning experience for RYA Theory Courses. In 2005, we made the decision to develop an online Day Skipper theory course and sought approval from the RYA. After our course material was reviewed by Mike Diamond and Chris Slade, RYA examiners of examiners, we embarked on writing the Coastal Skipper and Ocean Yachtmaster online theory courses. We dedicated months to developing ocean animations, and worked tirelessly on the weather and passage making modules. Eventually, we completed the course, and it exceeded our expectations. Today, we continue to improve our current range of courses, keeping them in line with current RYA standards and quality requirements, while also bringing out our own range of Navathome Theory Courses, like the “Diesel Engine Course” and “Basic Training” courses. I have very little experience, so the online assistance was very important. It was very easy to follow my progress. The lessons where well explained and there were many animations which helped me understand.

great course and exercises
good course material (both the online and physical material). there are plenty of exercises and quizes for checking your progress along the way. a combination of multiple choice and freetext responses. responses are computer checked, so you get immediate feedback.
Once you signup, you do have to wait for training materials to arrive by mail (RYA charts, training almanac etc.)

I find that the theoretical English…
I find that the theoretical English method is much more intuitive than the French method.... the progressiveness of the exercises is very interesting

This was neither - instead it was super simple to follow right from the start - and that is a real accolade from an IT dimwit like me! I also learned quite a lot! Well done!

It was easy to navigate through the online course which was divided into clear sections. I like the worked examples dotted about through the sections to help you test your knowledge. The system worked well and there were some interactive graphics included as well. The team were very quick to reply with any questions and I liked the emails you received after taking an end of section quiz. It was really useful when those emails summarised the questions and answers.

RYA Costal Yachtmaster Theory Course
This is my third theory course I am taking through Navathome. The training material is presented in a clear and concise manner. Some of the topics include basic animations which is definitely helpful in understanding and memorizing the content. Exam questions are similar to the practice exercises given throughout the course. Navathome staff is always available, supportive and helpful.
