I booked a room with laterooms.com, paying more for the option to cancel. An hour later, I cancelled the booking on their website as I no longer needed the room.
Fast forward 3 days, and they've taken the money from my account. I've tried to get in touch with customer support via the phone number on the laterooms website - and the customer support rep that answered claimed he's never heard of laterooms.com and couldn't help me.

Having reviewed your booking, we can see that your cancellation was processed and the refund was issued on the same day. As explained in our recent email correspondence, while refunds are processed immediately from our side, it can take a number of working days for the funds to be returned to your account depending on your bank's processing times.
We're also sorry to hear about your experience when calling for assistance. Having reviewed the matter, it appears the number contacted was for the property's managing agent rather than the LateRooms customer support team. We would have been happy to assist with your query had you contacted us directly.
We appreciate that waiting for a refund can be frustrating and thank you for your patience while the banking process completed.

Refuse to provide an accurate VAT receipt
I have waited months for a VAT receipt for a stay. After many back and forth emails, Late rooms said they could not give a receipt of the level of detail I require (that simply being a VAT receipt). They then said I could find the information on their website. I dont believe it exists, I could not find anything. My request for further assistance has been completely ignored. I will not book with this supplier again.

As explained by our team, LateRooms acts as a booking agent on behalf of accommodation providers and does not charge VAT on accommodation stays. For this reason, we are unable to issue VAT invoices for accommodation bookings. Where a VAT invoice is required, this must be obtained directly from the accommodation provider.
We are also sorry to hear that you felt your subsequent requests for assistance were not responded to. This is certainly not the level of service we aim to provide, and we will review your feedback internally.

Terrible service
Terrible service. I cancelled the booking within an hour and received email confirmation that it had been successfully cancelled, yet I was still charged. When I contacted customer service, they were unhelpful and refused to issue a refund, instead blaming me for not contacting the hotel directly—even though I booked through them.

Your booking was made on a non-refundable rate for arrival the following day. The cancellation terms are set by the hotel and are clearly shown at the time of booking, and in line with these terms the booking is non-refundable once confirmed.

Really convenient way to arrange spontaneous stays.
I have felt the need to plan ahead during my working life, but since (almost) retirement reduces my need to do so, finding a reliable site through which to arrange a trip just a few days (or even hours) ahead is really helpful.

Not really value for money
Not really value for money. Room was very old and needs modernizing and freshening up. For a slightly higher prices I would have gotten a room without the “side view of the sea” but much more comfortable (I did get multiple quotes but wanted a glimpse of the sea).

Booked a small apartment via laterooms
Booked a small apartment via laterooms, arrived to find the proprietors had not placed the add on the site or received the booking. Inconceivable in 2026 the platforms security is so lax to allow this. The owners said it happened all the time and when I was outside another family turned up with the same result. Parent company Booking.com after an hour offered an alternative in Blackpool when I was in Warwickshire. Pathetic avoid.

Aftercare not helpful
The booking process was easy, but whilst i had problems with the hotel and paid through here they were less than helpful. Not understanding my complaint and then told me to speak to the hotel directly to see if they could help. I emailed the company as soon as i got home with my complaint and the reason for wanting a refund due to service failings but was told no, because they hadn't read my complaint or understood properly. Then closed the case.
Avoid the Brighton Holiday Inn IHG hotel also!
