This site is a joke, I had made a few friends on the site some who I chatted with daily and then chatting to one on my friends on the site and without any warning right in the middle of the conversation account suspended, so what is wrong with chatting to someone about how their day has been the site is utter bollox

Getting suspended mid-conversation while you were just asking a friend how their day was is a bad call, and I am sorry. The automation flags patterns and it sometimes lands on completely ordinary chats, which is why there is an appeal. A suspension is time-limited and a removal is reversible for about a year, and appealing puts a real review on your case. Please use the appeal link on the account so we can look at why the chat got flagged.
Bots make decisions without appeal
I endorse most of the other reviews, which mention the prevalence of fakes and scammers. This has been my experience too.
I want to add the following. Interpal's bots look for "suspicious activity", and suspend accounts when they find it. However, the bots are mistaken. They will declare something suspicious that was perfectly innocent. Then you can't appeal. I wrote to the Interpals query email address three times stating the above problem. No human reviews the decisions nor responds to unfairly affected people. Obviously no one is monitoring the mailbox. The site is run by bots, ironic considering that the site is supposed to be about human interaction.
Unhappy experience. Even if they reinstate me, I'm quitting interpals.

Hi Woody, I want to correct one thing that matters here. The account has an appeal built in that is separate from the query email you wrote to three times, and that appeal goes to a real review rather than the mailbox. The automation does sometimes flag innocent activity as suspicious, and that is precisely what the appeal is there to catch. A suspension is time-limited and a removal is reversible for about a year. Please use the appeal link on the account, because from there your case gets a direct look even though the email inbox let you down.

As these people there think it's fine to keep scammers and fake accs on their app, but keep deleting accs without any warning or valuable reason (mine just got deleted for the 5th time now). On behalf of all the people complaining about it with no change, I have decided to contact my lawyer and am in touch with an association for the protection of customers. You guys keep playing with us now, let's see how the coin is going to flip.

I’ve been a long time user on this app. I have met some nice people too, but the number of creeps who get you reported and suspended for no reason is much higher. It’s the most annoying site/app. 4 accounts, all suspended for no reason. Yet all the creeps/scammers and so on are there lurking about and not being suspended. InterPals you need to get your priorities checked and change how you deal with reports, if it’s even anyone there dealing with it..

Report volume can trigger automated action, which means a bad-faith pile-on can catch the wrong person, and that is exactly what the appeal is for. This is literally the worst app I've ever seen. Those who control it are either asleep or probably on bad stuff.. Older people comment on minors, allow inappropriate content, and ban accounts that share their opinions about this app. There's nothing good about it. My advice: delete this app and make yourself safe. Download Hellotalk or something else and relax from this bullshit.

This deserves a serious answer, not a template. Sexual or predatory behavior aimed at anyone underage is the highest-severity case we handle, and it is treated as a remove-the-account matter, never a light warning. The minimum age to join is 13, and contact between accounts is restricted by age. If you have seen adults commenting on minors or inappropriate content around them, please report it in the app with the username, because a report is what routes it straight into that. On accounts being actioned, automated moderation is not perfect, so any suspension or removal can be appealed and gets a real review. Thank you for raising the safety part. It matters most.

Hi Michael, freezing at the very first step, right after entering your name, is a real bug and not the welcome back anyone should get. That is on us, not on anything you did. If you are up for trying once more, a different browser or the app often gets past a stall like that, and clearing the page and starting fresh can help too. If it locks up again at the same spot, the in-app feedback does reach us and helps us pin down where it breaks. I would genuinely like to get you in, since you came back after all this time. Sorry it tripped at the door.

I had other hopes with this site... some people are scammers (I had to block China), sometimes Asian girls 'hide' in az European country and pretend to be good, while they recommend online trading later (my profile already says that it is forbidden). Western people, especially women don't answer to Eastern European accounts. I wanted to practice German but I was blocked. I am planning to delete my account.
Also, the browser version is obscure, 90s.
So avoid it, as much as you can.

Hi Márk, the profiles that claim to sit in a European city and then steer you toward online trading are a scam pattern we take seriously, and I am sorry it wore you down. Reports now trigger automatic action instead of queueing, fakes and scams go on the removal path, and a reverse-image check catches accounts whose photos and stated location do not match a real person. If you report those trading-pitch accounts in-app, the system acts on them. You are right that the browser experience needs work too, and that is on us to keep improving.

This site is trash. It's filled with nothing but fake profiles, bots and scammers who use fake pictures and copy-paste profiles. Then when you report someone for breaking the rules of the site or attempting to steal your information, the moderators suspend your account.

Hi James, scammers running fake pictures and copy-paste profiles are the exact thing we added a reverse-image check for, so a stolen photo used under a new name can actually be caught now. Reports trigger automatic action instead of queueing, and fakes and scams are on the removal path. On the other half of your review, being suspended after reporting a rule-breaker is a wrong outcome, and that is what the appeal is for. If it happens, use the appeal link on the account so a real review looks at your case, and keep reporting the fakes in-app so they get picked up.

I met my best friend here, for this I would rate it 5 stars but everything else about the site was bad and I would give it 1 stars for that. The site has many people looking for dating who aren't interested in friends, and most people who say that they are interested in friendship never reply or keep up a conversation. Also the moderators cancel women's profiles if they post any revealing pictures, even when it it is less revealing than a bikini, but men post pictures of themselves without their shirts and some only in shorts but are never removed for it. Most of the women on there mention also having trouble with perverts. There are a good many people who want language exchange but I don't know how many are serious about it.

Hi Silas, meeting the best friend who earned this its five-star half is exactly what the site is for, and I am sorry the rest of it dragged the rating down. On the photos, an automated nudity classifier is what screens uploaded images, and if it is landing unevenly on the same kind of shot from one profile to another, that is worth knowing about rather than brushing off. The people ignoring a friends-only profile to push romance, and the perverts the women you mention keep running into, can be blocked on the spot and reported, and an account can be set to take first contact only from verified members. Thanks for a fair, mixed review, and sorry it took us this long to answer it.

Site administrators and admins do not care about the site members. They are chasing romance. They kick members out of the site for no reason and prevent them from logging in again.

Hi Ahmet, being kicked out for no reason you can see and then shut out from logging back in is a bad way to lose an account, and I am sorry. The decisions here come from automated software rather than staff chasing anything, and software does flag ordinary accounts by mistake. A suspension runs for a set time and lifts by itself, a removal can be undone for roughly a year, and the appeal on the account puts your case in front of a genuine review. Please send that appeal so we can see why you were locked out. This answer is late, and that is on us.
Don't use it!
When you sign up, you quickly receive messages and are promptly asked to communicate via WhatsApp or a chat service. Genuine pen pals who genuinely want to help each other learn languages are the exception. It's a shame. I'm going to delete my account now.

Hi Günter, being nudged onto WhatsApp within minutes of signing up is one of the clearest scam tells there is, and it should not be the first thing that greets a new member. Those accounts are handled by removal rather than a warning, a report now drives an automated decision instead of sitting unread, and a profile photo can be checked against the wider web to expose a picture lifted from someone else. You can also limit first contact to verified members to thin out that kind of opener. If you do decide to stay, reporting the ones who push to move off the site feeds them straight into that. Apologies that this reply reaches you so long after you wrote it.

I am sorry the exit left you feeling permanently locked out. Here is the part that may help though, a deleted account here is a soft delete, so logging back in with the original email usually brings the whole profile back rather than nothing, and a removal stays recoverable for about a year. If the login genuinely will not let you return, the appeal link on the account goes to a real review instead of the support inbox that went quiet on you. Try the original email first, and appeal if it blocks you. This reply is overdue, and I am sorry for the silence.

Don't use Interpals. It's full of gaslighters, fakes, scammers, marriage seekers, and visa chasers. I can honestly say it affected my mental health for the worse, no hyperbole if you're interested in learning a different language and/or culture. Interpals isn't it.

Alexandra, I am sorry it went past wasted time and actually cost you something, that is not a small thing to say and I take it seriously. The marriage and visa seekers and the fakes behind them are meant for removal, not a quiet warning, and reporting one now sets off an automated review that can pull the account down. A stolen-photo check can also trace a picture back to whoever it really belongs to, which catches a lot of the built-to-deceive profiles. Blocking is instant the moment someone starts working on you. I am sorry this response comes so far after your review.

I been for years and talking someone and they cut her off no warning. Then few years I go kick off to many times of me trying get back on with no reason. I complain to them and it automatic saying we looking into it. Took me months to get back after I figure what true password was. My profile was still there. Now they asked for a new profile on there site saying it is being in use of course they never sent a reset to password. I am sure I am fighting a computer. I am sure they 5 million users.

Your password reset emails were not being sent despite our system indicating otherwise, and your original account was incorrectly removed by an automated filter. Both issues have since been addressed.

Hallo Doris, dass eine Seite, auf der Sie vor zehn Jahren echte Freunde gefunden und Menschen getroffen haben, heute so viele Fakes und Betrüger hat, ist eine bittere Entwicklung, und Ihr Ärger ist berechtigt. Zur Frage, warum wir nicht prüfen, wer sich anmeldet, ein ehrliches Wort. Wir führen gerade eine Foto-Verifizierung ein, einen kurzen Video-Selfie-Check mit einem verifizierten Abzeichen, und man kann einstellen, dass der Erstkontakt nur von verifizierten Mitgliedern kommt. Das ist freiwillig und noch im Aufbau, ich behaupte also nicht, dass jedes Profil verifiziert ist. Zusätzlich lässt sich ein Foto gegen das Web abgleichen, um gestohlene Bilder aufzudecken, und Meldungen lösen automatisch eine Entfernung aus. Entschuldigen Sie, dass diese Antwort spät kommt.

Site banned me after 4 days of use for 'suspicious activity'
Emailed multiple times asking what's up, no response.
Like so many others, spent hours recreating profile and reconnecting with people, lost all messages.

Hi Emagin, a suspension four days in for suspicious activity, with the emails going nowhere and hours lost rebuilding what you had, is a genuinely bad run and I am sorry. New accounts get flagged by an automated pattern check that catches ordinary use more often than it should, and the appeal on the account is the one route that reaches a real review instead of the silent inbox. Had you appealed rather than rebuilt, the original account and its messages could have come back, because a removal stays reversible for about a year. On the fakes, reporting them sends each into an automated review aimed at removal. Sorry this reaches you a long time after you wrote it.

Other reviewers here were right. That site has been taken over by scammers. When I signed up I immediately got 6 responses from supposedly young pretty Asian woman that were all scammers. One even admitted it when I called them out. Sure those were not even their photos. People said on Reddit it used to be a decent penpal site many years ago. Not anymore stay away.

Hi Andy, six scam messages the moment you signed up, one of them owning up to it when you pushed, is a terrible front door and I am sorry that was the welcome. Those were not their photos, and that is exactly what a reverse-image check is for now, tracing a face back to where it was really taken from. Reporting them sets off an automated decision that can remove the account, and a verified-members-only first-contact setting keeps a lot of that flood out to begin with. The old decent version people remember is the direction the work is aimed at. Sorry this reply lands so far after you left it.
