We have nine shops across the UK, and customers can also buy online from our website. We pride ourselves on our wide knowledge and excellent customer service. All your queries will be handled by a human being, and our 40 sales staff are all experienced musicians, with an unrivalled combined expertise on all kinds of musical instruments and styles. We stock the most widely varied range of instruments and accessories available on the high street, from guitars and amps to folk and traditional instruments from all over the world. We stock new and secondhand musical instruments. If you have a used musical instrument to sell, contact us to find out how we can help - we often buy used instruments for cash, or we can sell it on your behalf. You can find our UK music shops in London, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Canterbury, Bristol, Southampton and Brighton.

Careful about promises

I originally went into Hobgoblin to ask if they would buy an old flute I had at the beginning of April. They said they would take a look so I returned on the 9th with the flute and they promised £80-100 and would let me know the following week. I had heard nothing by the beginning of May so rang and asked and got told they didn't want to buy the flute (although they offered sale or return which I didn't want).
So I am annoyed that they had two chances to tell me they didn't want the flute, but they told me they did and then they didn't communicate with me for 4 weeks, only responding when I chased them. Broken promises.

Hi, I've talked with the staff in the shop where this happened. We're really sorry this got forgotten and you had to wait for information. It does get very busy in the shop and there's a lot going on, but that doesn't help you when you're waiting for information! We have set up a new system of communication within the shop to make sure tasks like this don't get forgotten again.

Excellent service

Excellent service, fast delivery and good prices!
Bought a few things from them over the years, a Waltons bodhran being the latest.

Warm and helpful

The people at Hobgoblin were warm and helpful on the phone. There had been a glitch on the website where tariff related charges were estimated as unreasonably high for an inexpensive item but I phoned them and they helped me place my order with the proper tariff charges upfront. Also, they’re the only place online that sells leather tipped bodhran tippers (which give a nice bassy sound). I recommend them

Excellent service

I needed help with ordering an instrument. Hobgoblin sorted it out quickly, politely, and very efficiently - it took less than 24 hours from placing the order to delivery. Excellent service and an excellent instrument!

Wonderful experience

Wonderful experience buying from this company. I was buying a birthday present and had left it very close to the date. From expert advice from the shop floor to the brilliant considerate planning in the warehouse, all items were shipped and arrived on time. I even received a free gift of an essential item that they noticed I'd left out of the order. Great experience all round. Thank you!
