Extranomical Tours, founded in 2002, is a San Francisco sightseeing tour company that specializes in tours for people who generally do not like to take tours. Our clientele is very independent and likes to venture to places where most tour companies don't go to. Due to the small size of our groups, our guests receive a more personalized and exclusive experience from us. Our tours offer a distinct "traveling with friends" feel, so that most people interact with each other and so we are able to visit locations larger vehicles do not. For example, we have a short hike up to the Giant Sequoia grove on our one day Yosemite tour from San Francisco. On our California wine country tours, we visit small family-owned boutique wineries (too small for large buses) that produce such limited quantities you can only buy their wine at their winery!
We are fully insured and licensed by the State of California Public Utilities Commission and are regulated and inspected annually by the California Highway Patrol. We are proud members in good standing at the San Francisco Travel Association. All of our drivers are drug tested at the time of hire as well as at random times throughout the year. We make sure that our vehicles are always in excellent mechanical condition by inspecting daily and keeping a rigid maintenance schedule.
We train all of our guides one-on-one to make sure that they are knowledgeable, courteous, and most of all, safe. All of our guides are also friendly, informative, and experienced. We test drivers on a periodical basis on their knowledge of the areas we visit. We also maintain a training program and a resource library for guides to stay current on relevant material.
We carefully select the locations we explore on our tours to maximize your time and see the best of the best, while always maintaining an adventurous yet easy-going atmosphere. On our tours we have a comfortable amount of time where you are with the group, but we also give you enough time on your own so you can choose from different activities that interest you such as hiking, shopping, museums, or just taking in the beauty.
We know you work hard all year long to take a vacation so we make sure to do everything in our power to make your tour a memory that you'll treasure for a lifetime!

Keith is king
Keith our driver was very knowledgeable of local area. We enjoyed seeing the sights of San Francisco. Was disappointed with the fog but that can’t be helped.

Randall was a great driver and guide
Randall was a great driver and guide. He was knowledgeable, personable, and overall great guy. (He even gifted us a bottle of sparkling wine for our 30th anniversary!). Wineries and Muir Woods were good choices. We enjoyed them all. However, we purchased the "gourmet lunch and wine pairing" - we did not enjoy this. [PLEASE be sure to read update below1] The server practically threw the plates at us. The "cheese board" was three tiny bits of cheese (not even bites) and some not ripe fruit. The Caesar salad wasn't bad, nor was the chicken. But we ordered two different entrees and received two of the same. Most importantly, the wine pairings were advertised as 3 ounce pours. These were typical tastings - 1.5 to 2 ounces at most (and I doubt that much). I would never do another add-on like this with Extranomical. They don't seem to be involved in this and leave it all to a third party vendor who could have cared less, it seemed. Was definitely NOT worth the additional $80.
UPDATE: I changed my rating of the experience to 5 stars after Extranomical contacted me as soon as they saw this review (by phone, text, and email!). They were apologetic, assured me they were meeting internally about my concerns, and that they would follow that by meeting with the third party vendor who provided the lunch to determine if they would remain a partner. In addition, they refunded the cost of the lunch. I have used Extranomical before this and I would use them again. They acted appropriately and professionally when faced with the feedback above.

Dustin our guide was great! Knowledgeable and energy and attitude from start to end was ten. Thank you for the experience. The bus was hot because the AC was not working the best but that was not his fault.

What a wonderful day we had at Yosemite…
What a wonderful day we had at Yosemite and Giant Sequoias on July 15 2025.
Scott was our tour guide he kept us well informed and up to date, he even came looking for us when it looked like we were not going to make it back to the bus at the Sequoias bringing us some fresh water! We made it with 5 min to spare
Thanks so much Scott we really enjoyed our day and would certainly recommend Extranomical to anyone going to San Francisco
