A deeply disappointing experience with Elsevier. After serious administrative failures, inconsistent and shifting technical requirements, and repeated communication problems, I submitted a detailed formal complaint directly to the CEO. Nearly four weeks later, I have received neither a substantive response nor even an acknowledgement. This is not how a company that depends so heavily on the scientific community should treat its contributors.

In July 2025 I received an email from someone in the accounting office at Elsevier. The email informed me of an outstanding credit balance I had that resulted from an overcharge on their part while I was in the nursing program. The sum came to a total of $315.16
The email let me know that if I wanted the balance returned, I needed to complete a "refund return" form and email it back. I completed the form and returned it a few days later. I still have yet to receive the refund. Even after sending multiple follow-up emails inquiring about the status of the refund, it was never returned. Eventually They sent a response email stating
"The delay is due to the approval process. You will receive it within a couple of days."

The funds were never refunded. I will never purchase products from this company again.

I am disappointed with the delay in processing our eBook request (elsevier , India). The process has been slow right from the quotation submission stage, with little communication regarding timelines or progress extended delays have caused inconvenience and uncertainty. Better communication and adherence to committed timelines would greatly improve the customer experience.

I have used the Platform Complete Anatomy for the past years during my studies and found it very helpful. However, I didn't need it anymore, so I cancelled the subscription on the website. Due to some technical reasons whatsoever the subscription rectivated, thus the money was drawn from my account.
However, after contacting the customer service, I got a fast and professional response and the problem was solved, sending me back my money. I am very pleased with the german customer support! :)

The most atrocious customer service I’ve ever experienced! Absolutely shocking. Months have gone by and not only do I still not have the printed journal I paid for, but nobody ever bothers to reply. They send out emails to say someone will within 48 hours but either nobody cares or they don’t have any staff, because that never happens. Awful. Don’t buy anything from them unless you have to.

Utilized their services for my business. I attempted to cancel services a month before renewal and was told that I could not as the contract stated I could not cancel within 30 days of renewal. I reviewed the contract and no where in it, did it say that. I refused to pay for the service another year as it was not needed. Because I did not pay, they sent my company to collections over a little bit of money. I'll never use or recommend them to any other business. Would leave ZERO stars if I could.

Greedy money grubbers who only care about profit at the expense of learning and knowledge. Truly a scumbag company run by scumbags.

Pirating anything they publish is the only ethical recourse for these slime balls.

I paid a lot of money for a text book that advertised access to an enhanced digital version; however, when I entered the access code from the inside cover of the book, I received an error message indicating "Sorry--this code is no longer recognized". Unacceptable!

Where do you even start with a company this bad. The product that students have to use is just terrible, the support is aggressively bad, the prices are inflated for books that haven't changed in almost 20 years except for the edition number. Elsevier is bad for the very science written about in the pages of the overpriced textbooks.

The customer service quickly helped resolve my issue of accessing the online copy of a textbook I purchased.

Ordered a book that I needed for my studies and was told when I ordered that it was a print on demand title and would be ready to ship within 10 days.

10 days come and go and I query the status of my order to be told that it's actually on back order and out of stock and I will have to wait a further 2 weeks which is subject to change.

At no point is it made clear when ordering that items are out of stock, they will happily take your card details and issue your invoice but not communicate with you that the item is actually not in stock? When the agent told me this I checked the book on the shop again and, again, there was no information that it was out of stock.

Overall, very misleading shop. Absolutely no clarity about stock yet happy to take your order anyway. I won't be using them again.

cant seem to understand why there are bad reviews, but let me give them 5. no hate cause I was able to receive a good service from them.

Absolutely terrible company and customer support. Misleading access code support, would never recommend to anyone wanting to buy books. Purchased new book with access code that does not give you access to ebook, only useless summaries and a few practice questions. And the company is full of apologies but no help. Want another $150 to get access to an ebook when spent $150 on new book with access code that was expected to include the ebook. No where on the book or description does it say it does not include ebook. Miserable experience with this company. Full of misleading and false advertising and company does not care, just lip service, almost laughing in your face apologies. Horrible company

Absolutely amazing and understanding customer support. High quality, would recommend to anyone wanting to buy books.

Pre-ordered a medical book Elsevier online in the UK at the beginning of March 2025 to be published in May 2025 … then delayed until 5 June 2025 … now towards the end of June 2025 Elsevier UK are unable to tell me when the book is to be available in the UK … meanwhile on amazon.com I could have the book (same ISBN) in stock sent to me in the UK by Thursday (2 days time) … what is their problem? … when asked, they apparently don’t know … big company … little substance … pull your finger out Elsevier!

Absolutely horrible company. They will take your money and run with it. Other reviewers concur.

Sinds 5 maanden abonnee. Nu al 3 keer niets ontvangen. Van kastje naar de muur bij klantenservice. Uiteindelijk opgezegd, geen enkele bevestiging ontvangen. Heel jammer, blad is inhoudelijk goed.

Elsevier is a terrible company. It has taken over good products and Journals and made them unusable by non existent support services.
I use Compete Anatomy - an excellent program but since elsevier became involved cannot launch program.
The 'chat bot' does not work -ever. And the sign in system does not work at all. AVOID if you can
