I ordered from Charcoal to Austria and paid around €285 for my items. Shipping was advertised as free, but on delivery I had to pay an additional €141.90 in customs fees and import tax to DHL. This is mentioned on the shipping info page, but there is no clear notice during checkout. For EU customers, the real price ended up being almost 50% higher than expected.

Unfortunately, the quality didn't make up for it. For the price, I expected better finishing. Several pieces arrived with loose threads hanging off them.

If you're ordering from Europe, factor in customs costs before you buy. I would appreciate it if Charcoal showed this information clearly at checkout.

Nearly Seven Weeks to Get a Refund — Only After I Chased It Down Myself

I purchased two dresses from Charcoal Clothing after seeing the company heavily advertised on Facebook. When they arrived, I was disappointed with how different they looked in person from the impression created by the website photos, so I decided to return both.

I had to pay for the return shipping myself and sent both dresses back to the return address provided by Charcoal. USPS confirms that my return was delivered to their Fort Worth, Texas facility on July 23, 2026.

I assumed, reasonably, that my refund had been processed. I received no communication from Charcoal telling me that there was a problem with my return or that they needed anything further from me.

Then, on September 7, while reviewing my PayPal activity for an entirely unrelated reason, I happened to notice that I had never received my $170.38 refund.

By that point, Charcoal had been in possession of the returned merchandise for more than six weeks.

I had to go back through my records, locate the USPS tracking information, contact Charcoal myself, and provide proof that the package had been delivered to their return facility on July 23. Once I provided the tracking number, customer service processed the refund, and the $170.38 was finally refunded on September 8 — 47 days after Charcoal received my return.

The fact that I ultimately received my money does not make this acceptable. What concerns me most is that if I had not happened to review my PayPal activity, I would not have known that this refund had never been issued. There was no outreach from Charcoal asking for tracking information or notifying me of any problem. I had to discover the missing refund myself and then investigate it myself.

Customers should not have to pay out of pocket to return merchandise, wait nearly seven weeks without a refund, and then audit their own financial records and produce proof of delivery to recover money for merchandise the company has already received.

For me, that is a major red flag. I will not order from Charcoal Clothing again.

The designer of this brand really needs to reconsider the cuts of their clothes. The designs seem to be made exclusively for very tall people. Even being slim, many of the pieces simply don’t fit properly or look proportionate on the body.

It’s disappointing because there are other brands competing in the same market that create beautiful pieces with much more versatile cuts, designed to look great on both tall and petite women.

The designs may be beautiful, but the fit definitely needs to be reconsidered to accommodate different heights and body proportions.

Charcoal advised DHL to destroy my £160 order without my permission. No one contacted me about import fees and when I reached out to them after a month I requested they return to sender and Charcoal advised DHL to destroy parcel

I'm writing to formally complain about my recent purchase from your company and to warn other EU consumers about the problems I've experienced.

**WARNING TO EU CONSUMERS**

If you're thinking about ordering from Charcoal Clothing, I'd strongly advise against it. They don't know how to properly label parcels for EU delivery. When my order arrived at French customs, it was marked as a commercial shipment instead of a personal purchase. This wasn't my mistake—it was theirs. As a result, I've been stuck with a €1,000 bill just to get an EORI number so customs will even release my goods.

**WHAT HAPPENED**

I ordered a pair of sunglasses from you on for €80.00 (Order: #10511917520). When the package arrived in France, your incorrect labelling caused customs to treat it as a business import rather than a personal purchase. They've now told me I need to pay €1,000 to register an EORI number before I can even receive my goods. THIS IS NOT THE SAME THING AS IMPORT TAX, I AM MORE THA PREPARED TO PAY THE IMPORT TAX - The package has been sent back to you.

Instead of issuing a refund like you're legally required to do since you advertise and ship to EU consumers, you've sent me a gift voucher. That's not how this works. Under EU law, when goods don't reach a customer, they get their money back, not a voucher to spend more money with a company that's already caused them problems, and cannot deliver goods to europe.

**THE LAW IS CLEAR ON THIS**

You're required by the EU Consumer Rights Directive to give me a full refund when goods aren't delivered. The French Consumer Code says the same thing. What you've done—refusing a refund and offering a voucher instead- breaks these laws. And your labelling mistake that led to the customs issue? That's on you, not me.

**WHAT I'M ASKING FOR**

I need the following within 14 days:

- A full refund of €80.00 to my original payment method
- Written confirmation the money has been returned

In my last order a total opposite article they send me which I refused to receive as I am giving money . Then again though I didn't wanted to order but I placed an order and the color was different I order navy joggers and they send me charcol grey article . I have email evidence of both bad deliveries by charcol . Totally disappointed and I guess won't order again. I won't had received it if I was at home since I open there parcels now prior to payment. I request you all to open parcel of Charcol before paying. Have suffered twice now .

Some items are great some are not and feel cheap/poor quality which they shouldn't given the price.
