Disgusting staff attitude from the duty manager leaving 2 people who had travelled over 400 miles stranded because they refused entry to an 18 year old and a 17 year old because the 18 year old wasn't the parent ! Wish I had looked at the reviews before booking as now I've to fight to get my money back ! Arrogant Disgusting "man" I hope one day his children are stranded without help far away from home! Updated to say this was the Manchester hotel

The room came in a shocking situation. The bathroom is shown in the photo and was shocking. The room was so shocking we were unable to stay. Then, despite promising the refund would be processed the next day, I received no contact for a whole week. After a week I phoned and was told they would only do a refund if I sent my bank details in an unencrypted email. This was not the method that I used to pay and was not prepared to send bank details in the clear to a shared inbox.

They’ve been reported to the information commissioner’s office for their data protection issues

Adamton house country hotel in Prestwick WHY it's allowed to operate as a hotel is beyond me .
Absolutely awful filthy room and hallways.Food was a disgrace little of it and what was there was tasteless. I mean what hotel has no milk at breakfast no cereal.I could go on but doubt I'd have enough room for all the negatives .The poor chap on the reception was nice but I feel he spends his whole day apologising to people .YES it's a budget hotel I've stayed in many budget hotels but they are at least clean and have MILK. .

I took my girlfriend to the Adelphi for a meal and I was shocked at the food. Nothing much more than pie and chips and it was very much DIY nothing nice or pleasant about it with tables squashed together. It was more like a cafe down the road than the Adelphi restaurant. Disgusting and priced at £15 each. Not even worth £1.50!!
Nice lounge area though to sit down.

Stayed at the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool in April 2025 with a large group for a work trip — and it was easily the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had.

Rooms were filthy, with brown water coming from taps, no hot water, and flaking paint falling from the ceiling. One guest suffered a head injury after slipping in an unsafe, unmaintained bath — no anti-slip surface, no proper cleaning, no accountability.

Someone entered a room at 3am that wasn’t theirs — and another guest was given a key to the wrong room with no ID checks whatsoever. Massive security failure.
Also:

Soiled underwear left in bar toilets

Broken lifts, leaving guests to struggle up multiple floors

Reception staff were uninterested and unhelpful

All of this was raised with management, along with photos and videos — not even an apology.

This place isn’t just outdated — it’s actively dangerous. Avoid at all costs.

They ignore emails and refuse to take cash at the hotel in settlement of the bill! I thought cash was still legal tender in the UK. I avoid establishments that refuse cash, so you've lost yet another customer.

If you're looking for disappointment, this is the place. Filthy rooms, staff that act like you're bothering them just by existing, and service that’s slower than dial-up internet. Save your money and sleep in your car — it’ll be cleaner and more comfortable.

Omg, take no notice of the photos on the website, the photos are fantastic, but in real life, horror show, dirty, grubby, even the mangeress orders food from a takeaway, if you want drugs dropping off this is the place to go, them people who praise this hotel must be used to living in dirt, staff ok, but didn't feel safe with myself having children as there was guests there who no one wants and were watching my children, ended up sitting in the room all night out the road, just wipe your feet leaving this hotel, mangeress needs to start acting like a mangeress instead of staffs friend

Buxton Palace hotel - just dreadful
Firstly, the room was so small that it was not possible to open the bathroom door fully, which made using the facilities extremely awkward. Moving around the room was impossible unless one of us remained on the bed. The furniture was sparse and inadequate. The view from the window overlooked an unsightly area strewn with rubbish—hardly the picturesque surroundings one would hope for at a hotel in Buxton.
The breakfast offerings were equally disappointing. The food was overcooked and clearly had been left out for far too long. The cheese was hard, highly processed, and unappetising. It was evident that there were not enough staff on duty; tables were left uncleared, with used crockery piling up, creating a chaotic and unpleasant dining environment.

We stayed at the Cavendish Hotel in Eastbourne for a week. 6th to 13th of April, to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was dissapointing. In need of redecorating and cleaning. The menu was dissapointing. My husband is vegetarian and there was only 1 choice, quiche for 3 evenings, small vegetarian samosas 1 evening small vegetarian spring rolls for 1 evening. More like buffet dishes. I have a gluten and dairy intolerance, so the only dessert for me which was fruit salad every night. No vegan ice cream or sorbet to have. The other desserts every night was cake. I feel anyone coming from abroad would be disgusted. When you go abroad the people are always washing down the floors even outside their shop. The entrance from the car park was filthy! No info about the hotel services or ehat snacks the bar has to offer.Not worth 4 stars.

I would like to have given 0 stars, unfortunately not an option. Never in my life have I been spoken to in such a condescending and disrespectful manner by someone on the end of the phone. Booked a hotel room in Scarborough, confirmed, then had an email to say booking had been cancelled no explanations no help no nothing….but the £150 has come out of the bank! The number called to get to the bottom of the issue was met with one of the most disgraceful and unhelpful people. No care, rude, sarcastic and unresolved issue due to lack of consideration and ability to think outside of the box and unwillingness to help. Disappointed family of 4 with nowhere to go now and £150 down.

Manchester, booked a little last minute get away as we always do come across Britannia Manchester thought it looked pretty. What a mistake that was! Bathroom is so outdated the bath doesn’t turn on properly, no window in the Room no temperature control and a fan which doesn’t work to cool the air down.

Pillows so hard I have woken up with the worst backache ever.

Visited on a Friday and a few friends were staying over night.
We were appalled how our friend, who's in a wheelchair, was treated and was basically forced to walk down to reception as their wheelchair had died and needed access to their room to charge it. They offered no help or assistance.
The hallways were tiny, a pollard is placed right down the ramp to the lifts at the very bottom of the hotel (heading into the restaurant). Not making it wide at all for wheelchair accessible.
I am disgusted that this hotel says they're disabled friendly and have disabled rooms. They do not.
My friend was given the smallest one bedroom room with absolutely no room. The double room was miles bigger and was more accessible for a wheelchair user? How does that work?
Just because they have lifts in and out of the building, does not make them wheelchair/disabled friendly or easily accessible for a disabled person.
Although majority of the staff were lovely, they had no idea how to be helpful and struggled to even work the lift to go outside the hotel.
Be wary if you have a relative/friend with a wheelchair or disabled as this hotel is not it.
It is falsely advertised that it is.

Awful experience. Bathroom was filthy, had bugs, no tissues in box, dirty tiles and bath, no mat. No temperature control in room. Unable to open windows due to ventillation fans. Bar staff made you feel you were an inconvenience. I'm pretty sure I was bitten by something!

I stayed at Bosworth hall for a valentine themed break with breakfast and dinner. The dinner was atrocious, just soup for starters a choice of 3 lots of slop for mains, we had to settle for pork casserole and chips, no carved meat, little choice in veg and dessert was a choice of 3 cakes,worst hotel meal we have ever had. Plus the service was non existent we even had to clean our own table off. This is not good enough for any hotel stay especially a valentine theme, people we spoke to said the food was even worse the previous night.
Breakfast was only ok, when we first arrived it was pouring of rain, the next day I asked at reception if I could check my car registration details to make sure I had entered correctly on checking in form it was only then I was told I should have put my details in the parking eye terminal. Upon saying I was not told to do so on check in they said its signposted outside hotel and I would receive a fine. It was pouring of raining on arrival, the signs are 12 foot up posts and the terminal is not on the front of reception but stuck up a corner, I should have been instructed to use the terminal but reception forgot to tell me, now I have a £100 parking fine notice to pay.
My advice, avoid Brittania hotels, it's virtually impossible to complain the only way I could do it was via Resolver and after 22 days I still have not received a reply.

My 17 year old daughter was travelling through Manchester and I booked her into the hotel in Portland Street. She arrived and was told that because she was a minor they would not complete her check-in. At no point during the booking process was this fairly important policy flagged. It was hidden deep down in terms and conditions. What is so utterly appalling and dangerous is that they let a minor, travelling alone out on to the streets of Manchester with nowhere to stay for the night. Completely callous and irresponsible, without empathy or care for her well being, they kicked her on to the streets of a city she was unfamiliar with.When I rang in disbelief the duty manager told me that I was the one who was irresponsible! The people who did this, who didn't ask her if she had alternative plans, who didn't help her find another room, lack any sense of morality or responsibility. She phoned me in the freezing cold, crying, without anywhere to stay in the middle of city she didn't know. The most inhumane reaction of any hotel I have ever come across. Thank you Brittannia. You are every parent's nightmare.

I contacted Britannia Hotels about a policy issue which I thought unreasonable. The anonymous pen-pusher who responded was particularly unhelpful. I was surprised that a company specialising in hospitality could have such bland and unaccommodating staff. Little wonder their hotels receive such poor ratings when they employ individuals like that.

Norbrek Castle - Blackpool.
Stayed Thursday night then attended a Pontins 48hr Weekender February 2025.
Accommodation - clean and had the necessaries in the room.
Food - good quality and variety.
Hotel - yes dated but it is a big hotel and from what I saw was being maintained.
Staff - all I spoke to were friendly, helpful, nothing too much trouble and polite.
Would I stay here again / recommend - absolutely!!!
