I’m really pleased that I decided to rejoin the gym recently after a long break, especially after hearing about the renovations and updates to the facilities. So far everything has been great! Visiting during the day, the gym is not overcrowded, all the equipment is brand new, and everything is clean. I hope it stays this way!

Nice renovation, good swimming lessons, friendly staff.

Good enough
The Better app and booking system is poor and difficult to navigate. The lesson was ok but having started late when a teacher no-showed the kids were not given the full 30 mins paid for.

Impressed with the centre
Impressed with the centre . New equipment clean parking .Members seem nice . I was disappointed with the first class I attended which was covered and was not a Body Pump class . Happy with my second class . The centre is local which is a bonus .

Scanning In
Scanning in always seems to be a problem for myself and other users. The turnstile does not seem to scan and I have to refer to staff at the front desk to scan my card to give me access.

The showers very dirty, nothing inside the shower to hang the tower, you have to put the towel on floor, toilets very dirty, the staff very good and very helpful,

Pros and Cons
The facility is clean. The teachers are very friendly and makes the new learners feel comfortable in the water. However, the classes offered for swimming are quite short. Also, I wanted to add swimming lessons for my daughter but I have to pay another membership fee so I could let her attend more. I find it odd to have to pay for another membership (already an existing member) so as to add other swim classes for her.

Disgustingly misled
Yesterday evening I went to Southgate leisure centre to sign up my daughter for a 6 week gym trial starting today. She has membership at Pure Gym but it can get busy so I said maybe she could give Southgate gym a try.
First sign up to say it is shutting next week for a few weeks. So how dare they sell me a pass for a shut gym. This is utter misrepresentation and I actually believe it is fraud because she knew it was shutting when she sold me the 6 week pass. So it gets worse. Today my daughter goes to the gym. She said the changing room was shut so she had to use the swim changing room. She said it was the dirtiest gym she has ever been to and given she just returned from 7 months in South America , she has experienced many poor gyms.
I will be asking for my money back. It’s absolutely appallingly dishonest behaviour.

I am very sorry to hear that your daughter was not happy with the facilities at the Southgate Leisure Centre. All centre specific memberships at this facility have been given UK access whilst the centre is closed for refurbishment and the information in regard to the closure is stated via the below link for all customers to view. We apologise if you were unaware of the refurbishment before your daughter purchased the membership but if she has had the membership for less than 14 days you will be able to request a cancellation of the membership and receive a full refund.
