With nearly 40 years’ experience, managing director, Tom Carson is probably the longest serving Broker to the Photographic Industry in the UK. Tom has been working with the Association of Photographers since 1978 and has been on the board of the AOP since 2014. Tom also has very strong links with the Photographic Agents of London, the Association of Illustrators and many more within the creative industry.

My experience is very negative.
I can't agree with all the positive reviews on here as my own experience has been very different. Despite offering me an insurance deal that I feel is suitable and I am happy with, Williamson Carson do not want me to pay for cover. Claire Denison, in particular, has been decidedly inflexible and unwilling to offer an accessible payment option. I do not have a checkbook, nor can I access BACS and I work full time hours so I am unable to make a payment over the phone. Williamson Carson can only take payments over the phone during the same hours that I am at work. I have repeatedly asked if it is possible to make a payment by phone outside of office hours, but I get nowhere with this. I have asked if it is possible to pay on their website so that I can make payment anytime, but this is also impossible. I want to pay for the cover and this can be very easily resolved, but I do not know how if Williamson Carson cannot be more flexible. I will not recommend Williamson Carson to anyone else in the future as this has been the most frustrating and annoying situations I have ever faced. I feel sure that if I had looked elsewhere for insurance cover it would have been paid straight away, but this is seemingly a stalemate that we will never be able to resolve.

Thank you for your feedback. I will send you an email personally, however I just want to reiterate that your feedback is important, especially as we have not had any similar concerns raised in the past.
Nowadays most of our clients would have a bank account with internet banking. Any client with a bank account would be able to pay using bank transfer. We would normally consider bank transfer to allow the ultimate flexibility for our clients as the payment can be set up by the client at their discretion, anytime of the day, with no time restriction.
99% of our client are businesses or sole traders, and bank transfer (BACS) is the by far the most common and desirable payment method requested by our clients. Furthermore, we offer direct debit, which again would allow clients to complete a direct debit mandate at their discretion out of office hours.
For card payments, you are correct, as we speak, we only accept those during working hours, however our office lines are open in excess of 40 hours per week. I will revisit as to whether this is possible with our bank to issue payment links. We have explored this in the past, but it was concluded at the time there was an increased risk of the payment links being intercepted by cyber criminals (and we did not want to put our clients at increased risk).
Furthermore, I have compared our payment options with some of our competitors. Some competitors only allow payment by 2 methods. We allow payment by a total of 4 methods (bank transfer, cheque, direct debit or card payment over phone). So in terms of the breadth of payment options available it would seem we are flexible.

It was good to receive a timely reminder at least a couple of weeks before the policy renewal date. Matt explained everything clearly in his initial email to me and was very prompt, clear, and helpful in replying to my follow up queries. I have been with WC for years
I have been with WC for years. I like that you get to speak to the team and it's not all online etc - It's bespoke and not one size fits all. Also that the insurance does not lapse if you have not renewed on the exact date etc ..ie if one is busy/travelling.
