The opposite of buy cheap, buy twice - invest in quality instead!
Always great to deal with. I know people have had some issues with returns in the past, but I always measure carefully and follow the fit guidance in the instructions and never had a problem!
The quality is so high that there’s a thriving appreciation and resale community on Facebook, with which the owner often interacts.
There are few truly good reproduction vintage companies in the UK where you can guarantee the quality. This is one of them!

I still remember the day I found VOH
I still remember the day I found VOH, which is well over 15 years ago now and I still have my original dress, it still fits like a dream and it still looks brand-new. Fantastic original 1950s sizing, great advice from Viv and her team on sizing and style. I have built my collection over the years and have so many special pieces that have been with me on every special occasion. The quality is amazing, and all the pieces are handmade in England.

I love how unique their patterns and the styles of their garments are as I love the 1950s. I wear my circle skirts and kitty dresses constantly, summer and winter! All of the fabrics are high quality and wash/iron well. I love that I finally found a brand that makes midi dresses and jeans that fit and they’re locally based in the UK!

Lovely clothes, but recommend on offer as bit pricy & dry clean only
I've seen some horrible reviews for VOH which I find hard to read as I've always loved them & never had any problems. I would say their items are more on the premium side with their pricing, and as they are dry clean only less accessible for everyone & there would be this additional cost for the care of the garments. But overall their fabrics are lovely and if you read the size chary (cause their sizing is different, e.g a size 14 on VOH is a size 10 elsewhere) then they fit perfectly, flattering where you need them to be. I've ordered dresses, skirts and my absolute favourites the jenny cardigan. Honestly I would buy this cardy in every colour, I have 7 of them so far, they fit soo nicely, work well with skirts, dresses, cigarette pants, everything and are super warm! Like the warmth of a jumper from a vintage looking cardigan. My only wishes for VOH is to not always be dry clean only, a tad cheaper or more sales haha cause my bank account can't take it! Oh and if you want to bring out the jenny cardigan in anymore colours, I am here for it!

Many of our pieces are made using traditional methods and include details like structured tailoring or internal boning, which is why some styles are dry clean only. That said, we do aim to offer pieces that are made to last and can be worn for years.
We also love hearing your thoughts on future colours, it’s always helpful for us when planning new collections.

I purchased a skirt in their sale. Wish I could afford to buy more of their items. It is well made and I love it. Took a while to arrive but then its a small business and not a huge outlet so thats to be expected.

Loved my partner going here she would always come back stress free so I'd send her with a budget and she'd break it and come home with a smile. I'd always recommend vivien of holloway as she loves there. Sad it's closed. She's ever so upset but glad she got to go at least.

i recently bought a beautiful dress…
i recently bought a beautiful dress from here. My (usual) size wasn't in stock, but the customer support were really helpful, getting back to all of my questions immediately.
If it helps, (as I see a few people have commented at disappointment at not having their size in stock) I am usually between a size 10 and 12. I have a hour glass figure, with a large (34DD) bust.
I bought the 14 thinking I might get a clever seamstress to take it in for me. it is a snug fit. Which is great and shows off the curves and waist as it should. so please think about going a size larger.
I think the fact that the styles go quickly is a great thing as it means the clothes are unique!

Diabolical - would never deal with these people again.
I spent hundreds of pounds with this shower in February to buy gifts for my wife’s birthday. One of the dresses (all were size 12) was like a tent. So, as soon as her birthday was over, I returned it asking for a smaller size. After several weeks I had heard nothing and when I checked Royal Mail’s tracking they had attempted delivery. It seems VOH have closed their unsuccessful shop and are now just online. However they have kept their redundant shop as their returns address. After weeks, they hadn’t collected my return from the post office so it has now gone back to the Royal Mail’s national returns centre. I have demanded a refund or replacement from VOH but they are now ignoring me. Let’s hope Paypal refund me. So glad I didn’t pay with a debit card. BUYERS BEWARE !!!!!!

I want to clarify a couple of points to avoid any misunderstanding. We are still operating fully online and processing all returns through our designated returns system, so nothing has been abandoned or left unattended.
Regarding your return, we do receive items back via Royal Mail returns routes, and in some cases delays or failed delivery attempts can unfortunately occur outside of our control once parcels are with the carrier. However, once a return is received and checked in our system, refunds are processed promptly.
I’m very sorry if you feel your messages were not responded to, that is not the level of service we aim to provide. If you are still waiting for a resolution, please do reach out again with your order details so we can ensure this is looked into and resolved as quickly as possible.
We appreciate all feedback, even when the experience has not been a positive one, and we are continuously working to improve both communication and logistics.
Don't bother
Don't bother. Items are rarely in stock and when asking a question the responses are disinterested - I'm sorry for wanting to purchase items from you, I won't any longer!

We are a small, design-led brand focusing on made-by-hand production rather than mass manufacturing, which naturally affects availability.
I’m also sorry if our communication came across as unhelpful, that is not the experience we want for our customers, and we are always working to improve this.
I've Given Up on VOH
I want so badly to love this company, but I just can't get behind them any longer. Their way of stocking such limited quantities of certain pieces especially options in smaller sizes is astounding. They'll send an email for new items, and within literal days, they run out of XS/S. The worst part is it takes MONTHS to restock only to quickly sell out once again sometimes within 24 hours. Two separate times I've purchased, never received a shipping email, contacted them for an update, and was given a canned reply letting me know they sent me an email to notify me the item was out of stock. Both times I asked them to forward said email because I never received it after looking in spam folders, etc and they just never responded to that request. Were they going to just hold on to my money until I contacted them? They use the excuse of "we're a small business" for all of their shortcomings, but I've never had any of these issues with their competitors. There's also such a lack in response by communicating with them directly, folks are left with having to reach out on their social media in order to have any issue rectified.
Please start stocking more items, and offer better communication to your clients.

This is part of our focus on craftsmanship and limited-edition production, but we appreciate it can be frustrating for customers trying to secure specific sizes.
Regarding your experience with order updates and communication, I’m very sorry this has not met expectations. Customers should always receive clear and timely information about their orders, and we will be reviewing how these messages are managed to ensure better consistency going forward.
We also take your point about responsiveness seriously. While we aim to respond as quickly as possible, we understand that delays and repeated follow-ups are frustrating, and this is something we are actively working to improve.
We do appreciate your feedback, even when it’s difficult to read, as it helps us identify where we need to do better.
What an amazing experience
What an amazing experience I've had with Vivienne of Holloway. I originally ordered my dresses online having coveted their collection for some time but in my haste and admittedly vanity I ordered the wrong sizes, devastated I called the store and spoke to Tara who was reassuring and understanding. When I said I'd be coming in to London for a special occasion she invited me to bring my dresses in and she will order in the sizes I should have had. When I arrived Tara was just brilliant, she helped me try on my original choices and some others, she made me feel fabulous and I left with three dresses, two petticoats and a skirt. If I could I would buy all my dresses from Vivienne of Holloway, great quality, lovely selection great customer service and very very patient. Thanks Tara I really appreciated your time and encouragement, I had a great time you made my day very special. I got a lot of compliments at my besties party.

Most of my wardrobe is VoH, never had anything bad from here, only issue I had was a pencil skirt which was noticeably smaller than my others otherwise I love my clothes especially the circle skirts!

Why do you never have anything in stock?
What kind of clothing company never has ANYTHING in stock? And then when you reach out to them for more information on when they're going to stock 'out of stock' items, they give a measly 'I don't know'. The top I wanted has been out of stock for OVER a year. What a joke.

I ordered the Grace Roses in Bloom dress for my daughters wedding and absolutely made the right choice! I didn’t need it, but did wear a frilled petticoat underneath and it just finished the dress! So many people commented on the dress! The material and cut are just amazing! Absolutely highly recommend Vivien of Holloway and will definitely visit the shop next time I’m in London (but will continue to order online meantime).
