I was directed to VitalChek by L A County to complete the process to get my birth certificate. I uploaded the document and after 14 days received a notice from them that more documentation was needed. They requested the same document I had already uploaded. No response from their "socalled" customer service. Horrible! LA County Government website should not be linking them.

Non-existent customer service. Vitalchek is great in concept, but they have taken more than the promised 48 hours for document review (by days??)—don’t reply to emails through their support site and won’t answer the phone. Garbage company

Zero stars: Ordered a copy of my Birth Certificate and just wasting time on hold for hours each time I call. Unfortunately my state i was born in uses this service! Tired of hearing how important my call is. This time I called from work in a attempt that would have them answer, made no difference!

I paid 54.00 to get a birth certificate quickly, and save myself a trip downtown. It never came. No response, just an automatic email.

I placed an order and then uploaded the documents needed to finish the request and received a confirmation of the order on March 11th. Since then nothing else happened, even though the website stated all documents would be processed in 24 to 48 hours. It is now the 17th and still nothing. I have called them and they just say it is delayed in accepting the doucments. They have already taken the money from the account but have yet to process any order. It takes 20 days for the government to issue the birth certificate but they are unable to tell me when they were even process my documents to be able to get on the 20 day waiting list. They have a non refundable processing fee and now I am waiting forever to get my documents. This seemed like a goverment endorsed scam since the link came straight from a California government website.

I have paid and submitted all my documents and they just keep sending me an email to upload my documents. I have done this THREE TIMES. This company / website is a scam. Beware.

If I could give zero stars I would. Absolutely the worst customer service. Placed an order October 2024. Was told my order had been reviewed and approved. Then an email in November said my shipment was delayed. It's now March 6, 2025 and still nothing. I've called twice. The first time I was on hold for 40 minute so gave up. Now I've been on hold for over an hour and still holding. Email inquiries get no response. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY - AWFUL!!

I been on the phone waiting for a representative to pick up going on an hour 😩 and Noone has attempted to pick up the phone this is bad business I have been waiting for my birth certificate going on a one month six days I purchased the birth certificate on January 27, 2025 and NO respond yet!!!

24 to 48 hours? What a joke. I have been waiting 2 weeks. When I contacted them last week, I was told my review would be expedited. Another week has passed, and it still shows in review.

I ordered my uncles death certificate on Feb. 11th. Its now March 5th and its still in review. They don't respond to emails and no one seems to be answer calls. Just sit in a constant loop of messages saying they will get to you shortly.

It’s been six days and my documents are still in review. I’ve emailed them and waited for 40 minutes on the phone and haven’t heard anything back. You promise to review documents in 48 hours, but it’s been 6 days and no word from you?

Poor customer service. I ordered my mother's death certificate over the phone. The gentleman taking my order was so sleepy he could barely follow the conversation. (Said he hadn't had his coffee yet. Was 10:30am)
Low and behold, he put the order in wrong.
I emailed and got no response. I've called 2x and the automated receiver left me on hold 20 minutes each time before I hung up. It's 9 days since I ordered.
Now I'm out $12.95 and have no certificate.
I'll have to start the process all over.

Vitalcheck is a scam. Do not use this service. I would not recommend.

Paid $43 telling me I need proof list of proof in email . Nope they will only take a valid drivers license and my birth certificate certificate and will cost another $25 plus must drive to Maryland from Pa. Family member who is Power of attorney will not supply death certificate. There was no obituary or services. Body was taken directly to be creamated. Don’t have name of crematorium. Need proof since took bereavement at work place.

Vital Chek is part of a global company called Lexis Nexis Risk. They deliberately place themselves remotely from customers. They make contact difficult or impossible. I live in Europe. I'm seeking a copy of my US birth certificate. You have to pay up front. Weeks later, they want more information which they don't disclose. You have to contact them, by email or phone. You scroll down. The email address of their message is a "no reply." You try to phone. Their system rejects international codes. I use an alternative number. No one answers. I'm paying international phone charges for an hour. Had I known it would come to be so difficult. I would have made an application by guaranteed delivery international letter. Why do public bodies responsible for vital record keeping of their own citizens contract out with companies whose services are incompetent, expensive, time consuming and impossible to contact or change?

Terrible company. Zero customer service. Do not answer CS phone. I have waited 2 weeks. Do not recommend using this service

They keep emailing need more documents, never telling which or what. They never answer they're phones. I lost a lot of money, now got to drive to Houston to get my birth certificate for my Dr license expires on Thursday, today Monday.

I ordered a copy of my birth certificate 3 months ago. After I spent $80 on what typically costs $10 to get straight from the county office, I was THEN told it would take approximately 140-150 days. That's 5 months, which is totally unacceptable. When I tried to cancel my order, they said it's already in process so I can't. It's impossible to reach anyone. This is a total scam.

UPDATE: Now struggling to get a refund that they acknowledged in an email I am due. Over an hour on the phone, several emails later and I still haven't received confirmation that my refund has been processed. Waiting for a promised email confirmation. Not holding my breath.

Ordered a death certificate through this company. I opted for UPS as they recommend that method of delivery as safer, for which they charge $18.50. Received the document destroyed, torn in three pieces, only two of which, taped together with packing tape, were in the strangely pristine envelope. When I contacted Vitalchek their solution was that after waiting a month for the document, I should wait two weeks to see what the response was from UPS and if I didn't hear from them after two weeks I should follow up by email. VitalChek had emailed me two days before the delivery that UPS had informed them there was a problem with my delivery. So assuming UPS accepts responsibilty. I will then wait another month for the document to be processed again. If they don't, who knows. When I indicated that this was unacceptable they suggested I call the county office directly to see if they would send me a "courtesy copy." This seems highly unprofessional to me. I hired them to handle this.
Also, I would recommend if you do use them not to opt for UPS especially if you are only ordering 1 document. It doesn't speed up the process or make it more secure. The UPS fees were almost as much as the fee for the document. I would get my document faster at this point if I just ordered another one. The fees I paid to VitalChek and UPS were supposed to make this simple and secure, it has not. Save yourself the fees and just mail your own request directly. Vitalchek can't get the document any faster, they are very unhelpful if there is a problem with your order and in this case it will take significantly longer to receive my document.
