Awful Experience
I am attempting to control my emotions writing this review. In July 2026, I went to view a car. It was well priced, in good condition and the sales staff were very good. I left a small deposit and signed some paperwork, I told the salesman that I was planning a 1200 mile trip the following week and the car would be great for it. I then transferred the remainder of the balance by bank transfer and arranged to collect the car the next day…..
Collecting the car went well and was a fun event. I drove the car home (17 mins) and got my kids to come outside to see it as they were excited too. While sitting in the car, we decided to test the air con, it had broken already. I called the Vertu and they advised me to go back and they would regas the air con. I was skeptical whether this would be a permanent repair, but did so anyway. They regassed and it was working again. Another trip home and moving all my stuff from my old car, showing the kids etc. Then called my mother to say we were coming round to show her the car. 500 metres from my front door, the car went into limp mode, dash lit up like a Christmas tree. Although it was in limp mode, the car didn’t want to move and I had to really rev it just to get it into a nearby car park. I did so, then called Vertu to advise that I was withdrawing from the purchase and I wanted a full refund as soon as possible. They accepted. The refund was processed within a few days. Apart from the tax, which they add onto the invoice and arrange directly with DVLA. Over 2 weeks later, I am still waiting for this. Expenses such as getting to and from the dealership. Transferring my money internationally (I live overseas), admin fees for changing my breakdown and car insurance were not reimbursed, with no offer to do so. The car was patched back together and is back on sale again. Although I cannot prove it, I am convinced that they knowingly sold me a car with faults which they had temporarily fixed. This is normal practice for a number of dealerships, however, when sat with my young children and discussing our extended road trip plans, the sales team should have felt a pang of guilt or responsibility. I will be seeking legal advice for the distress, wasted time and charges I incurred from this debacle. Be wary.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We are genuinely sorry that the vehicle developed issues so shortly after collection, particularly given the plans you had for your trip and the excitement of purchasing the car.
We are pleased that, once you contacted us regarding your decision to withdraw from the purchase, we were able to process the vehicle refund, regarding the vehicle tax, this is processed through the DVLA and is separate from the vehicle refund, so the timescale for that element is outside of our direct control.
We do, however, want to clarify that we strongly disagree with the suggestion that we knowingly sold you a vehicle with faults or that any temporary repair was carried out with the intention of concealing an issue. We would never knowingly sell a vehicle that we believed was unsafe or unsuitable for a customer, and we take our responsibilities as a retailer very seriously.

I was looking for a quality good condition used family car from a trustworthy source. I found a Nissan Qashqai 2014 at Vertu Nissan Derby. It was very reasonable, at a very good price for its condition.
Regan, the Senior Sales Executive, was great. He was really patient with all my questions and daily calls to follow up on the car, before it was ready to be collected. He was very understanding of my budget and did not pressurise with extra purchasing. And was kind to advise on certain services, whilst explaining why and how they could benefit me.
