Je suis tombé par hasard sur la…

Je suis tombé par hasard sur la boutique à Paris et j’ai tout de suite été intéressé par les escape maps.
Le vendeur, David, m’a déroulé un véritable cours d’histoire. J’ai finalement commandé sur le site et la livraison est arrivée en 3 jours.
Très bonne expérience globale, aussi bien en boutique qu’en ligne.

Zéro service client

Commande passé d'un pantalon et d'un short. Je reçois deux pantalon dont l'un défectueux avec une braguette qui se fonctionne pas.

Après 1 semaine et plusieurs tentative de contacte via leur site internet, leur tchat et un appel à la boutique : toujours aucune réponse

Slow customer support

I have ordered from this store several times in the past and was usually very satisfied with the products and their service. Unfortunately, this experience showed me how unreliable and slow this shop can be when problems occur.

Three days after placing my order, I received an email informing me that the item I had purchased was suddenly no longer available, even though it was listed as in stock on the website at the time of ordering. This already raises doubts about how accurately this shop manages its inventory.

I was told that I could either choose a different item or receive a refund. I replied immediately that I would like to exchange the item, but then received no response at all. After waiting more than a week without any feedback, I had to contact customer support again and ask for a refund instead.

Only after my second message did I finally receive a reply, explaining that an exchange was no longer possible and that a refund would be processed. The entire process was extremely slow and poorly communicated. Being left without any response for days as a paying customer is simply unacceptable.

Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this shop and will not be ordering here again.

Unusable paid return label (FedEx) + no customer service response


I’m very disappointed with Universal Surplus’ return process and customer service.

I received my order on January 12th (Order #43849) and initiated a return immediately, requesting a full refund. I also paid for/created the return label through their website. However, the label provided is for FedEx, and FedEx drop-off is not realistically available where I live (Beder/Aarhus, Denmark). I tried multiple local parcel shops and none of them accept FedEx shipments. In short: I paid for a return label that I cannot use.

What makes this even more frustrating is that Universal Surplus’ own return policy states that they are happy to change the courier if needed so the return can be completed. Despite that, I contacted customer service three times—on January 13th, 19th, and 21st—asking them to either arrange a FedEx pickup or provide a label with a different carrier that actually has local drop-off points. I have still not received any response or guidance.

Their policy also states returns must be made within 14 days of receiving the parcel, but without a workable courier option—and without any customer support—it becomes impossible to comply. This issue is entirely outside the customer’s control, yet the burden is placed on the customer.

At this point, I’m simply asking for a workable return method and a full refund. If Universal Surplus resolves this promptly, I’m happy to update this review accordingly.

Unresponsive to shipping carrier & customer

I ordered a pair of sunglasses from Universal Surplus that were held up in customs clearance by FedEx in the US. FedEx reached out to both Universal Surplus and me about additional documentation/information, but the company has been completely unresponsive to repeated inquiries. The order will be sent back to Universal Surplus if the additional information is not provided. If that happens, I'll like have to dispute the credit card charge as it does not seem like the company will readily respond to a refund request.

Un service client exécrable

Un service client exécrable.

Première expérience, je commande un article de la mauvaise taille, je m'en rends compte immédiatement, je me dis pas grave, j’envoie un message via le formulaire de contact pour expliquer la situation et un autre via le chat sur le site pour être sûr d'être lu, et je recommande à la bonne taille. Réponse une semaine plus tard, alors que l'article a déjà été expédié, "On a pas vu, vous pourrez toujours le retourner". Je me dis ok pas de soucis.

Je constate des frais de retour exorbitant de 12.27€ soit le quart de ce que j'ai payé. Il faut croire que les articles sont retournés en Porsche. Bon soit c'est ma faute, je ferais attention la prochaine fois.

Bon pigeon, je recommande une seconde fois. Je reçois un pantalon dont littéralement aucune mesure ne correspond à celle indiquée sur le site et qui donc ne me va pas. J'envoie un mail avec explication et photos à l'appui, pas de réponse, évidemment. Je passe par le portail de retour, j'indique qu'il y a une erreur de leur part, frais de retour : 12.27€. Là c'est trop.

Est-ce vraiment normal de faire face à un mur lorsqu'on essaie de parler au service client ? Existe-t-il seulement ? Pourquoi de tel frais même lorsqu'il y a eu une erreur de leur part ? Mystère.

On est vraiment désolés de lire votre message, et on comprend totalement votre agacement après une expérience comme celle-ci.

On reconnaît que le délai de réponse n’a pas été à la hauteur, surtout dans votre situation où vous aviez essayé de nous contacter à plusieurs reprises, ça n’aurait pas dû se passer comme ça.

Pour les frais de retour, ils sont effectivement appliqués en temps normal, mais dans le cas d’une erreur de notre part sur le produit reçu, ce n’est pas normal que vous ayez eu à les payer.

On prend votre retour très au sérieux et il nous aide à avancer. Depuis, nous avons renforcé notre service client pour éviter que ce type de situation ne se reproduise.

Encore désolés pour cette expérience, et merci d’avoir pris le temps de nous écrire.

Première et dernière fois

Entreprise qui ne mentionne pas les composants intentionnellement (je ne suis pas le premier à l'écrire), surtout quand il s'agit du polyamides et de tous les dérivés synthétiques de la pétrochimie.
==> Bien sûr, les frais de retour sont à la charges du client.
Pour finir, "Service client" qui ne donne pas de réponses évidemment malgré les relances.

Article non conforme, aucun service client

J’ai reçu un article différent de celui présenté sur le site, dans un état bien plus abîmé que ce qui était indiqué (et cerise sur le gâteau : livré avec 10 jours de retard).
J’ai contacté le service client avec photos à l’appui : aucune réponse après plusieurs jours.
Site à fuir si vous attendez un minimum de sérieux ou de suivi après achat.

Stay Away!
Order went fine, until items arrived with defects. Store was responsive on email until realising I am requesting a refund, and now radio silence on email or chat. Seems like customer service exists until it's not convenient.

NOTE: whilst I've not received any reply to my multiple emails in the last 10 days, they have responded to many reviews on here - shows you where their priorities are

Just stay away...

Nearly one week since I ordered and it hasn't shipped yet and I haven't been informed of any delays. They don't respond to their chat nor mail (yet). This isn't my first bad experience with them and I've only ordered once before. They used to be under Brut or something and they worked fine but stay away from Universal surplus, their costumer service is nearly non existing.

It’s not an excuse, but during our sales period combined with the free shipping code, we experienced a very high volume of orders, which unfortunately caused delays in fulfillment. We also acknowledge that we should have communicated better, and we’re working to improve on that point moving forward.

Regarding the lack of response to your emails and messages, this is equally regrettable. Our offices were closed for the long weekend around July 14th (a national holiday in France), which impacted our response time.
