I had a wonderful time with the Sunshine Volunteer Organisation. I received a very warm welcome at the airport. In the house you have enough space to do sports, play games or just relax. The food was always fresh and included lots of delicious traditional dishes.

Florence and Rubby are super friendly, funny and make you feel very welcome. They helped me to get to know Ghana in a real and authentic way. I learnt a lot from them about the culture, politics, food and much more. Florence was very helpful with organising weekend trips, bus rides and everything else I needed.

At the hospital, I had the opportunity to get to know different departments and was able to switch flexibly between them. I also had chance to see the sports and teaching programmes.

Overall, I had an unforgettable time in Ghana and would definitely recommend a stay!

We spent 10 weeks in Ghana, working as midwives in the hospital. The whole preparation and registration process was very easy and uncomplicated. Florence supported us with everything and answered all our questions immediately. We received a very warm welcome at the airport in Accra. The accommodation in Kumasi offered everything we needed. Ruby also cooked very tasty and varied meals. Florence supported us in everything we needed during our stay. She also planned unforgettable weekend trips for us.
The Sunshine Volunteers Organization gave us the opportunity to experience Ghanaian culture firsthand.It was an unforgettable experience and we highly recommend it to everyone.

I m so happy that I choosed The Sunshine Volunteers Organization for my volunteer stay in Ghana. It was a very authentic experience and I learned so much about culture, life and food in Ghana. Florence and Rubby take care of you so nicely. The meals are healthy and tasty with a lot of variation. The volunteer house is in a nice community, comfortable and in walking distance to the early childhood program. Everybody in the school was open and friendly and I could help and give an impact there from the first minute I was there. The welcoming at the Airport in Accra was amazing, very well organized with a good first Ghana experience. I hope to come back soon again!

I spent some time teaching at a school, and Flo is very dedicated and committed to making a difference for the children. I was in Ghana for a month with The Sunshine Volunteers Organization. Booking was super easy and if you had any questions or clarifications, you could always contact the organization. Within a very short time you were answered and helped. Also for the visa, all documents were sent to you completely.

At the airport we received a warm welcome. Everything was super organized. The accommodation is beautiful & very clean. Everyone is very friendly. The food was varied, healthy and super tasty. I felt safe at all times!

The program gives you a glimpse into the world in Ghana. It was an incredibly beautiful and learning experience! Apart from working, you get to know the country and the culture. You will be integrated into the world & life in Ghana. Florence & Kristy always have an open ear and are always there for you.

I have had the pleasure of visiting Ghana and staying with the Sunshine Volunteers Organization in Kumasi. Out host Flow has been of great help in showing us around, providing a cozy home with great food and all the comfort one could wish for. Thanks to her we were able to experience life in Kumasi and meet pupils and teachers from different schools, visit a local hospital and learn from locals about life in Ghana. This trip has been transformative and I truly would recommend this country and organization to anyone thinking about it. The impact they have is amazing and seeing it first hand really created a connection for me. I hope to be able to visit sometime again. :)

Volunteering at The Sunshine Organization was a truly life-changing experience. First of all, we were treated incredibly - we felt so comfortable in the house and absolutely at home straight away. We had everything we needed, delicious food, comfortable beds and an amazing host. Secondly, it was nice to feel like we were able to really help the kids. And they were soooo cute. We visited many different schools as well as a hospital to deliver goods that they needed but most importantly to show the kids some love.

I recently had the privilege of volunteering with an incredible organization in Ghana, and I can't recommend it enough to anyone considering volunteering abroad. Having volunteered with both large global organizations and smaller local ones, I can confidently say that the impact of the latter is truly unparalleled.

The organization I had the pleasure of working with is a small, locally-run gem that has left an indelible mark on my heart. The difference in experience is profound when you engage with a community-driven initiative, and the personal touch is something that cannot be overstated.

Emilie and I (Naima) did an internship as nursing students for 2 months with the Sunshine Volunteers Organization. From the beginning until the end we felt totally supported & very safe!

Pre departure support:
Kristy and Flo answered any questions detailed and in a short time. It was very easy to stay in contact with them either by eMail, Instagramm or Whatsapp. We received all the required documents such as papers for the application for the visa, confirmation for university and also personal information for us as volunteers.

In country support:
Flo picked us up at the airport and welcomed us warmly. We had time to arrive and get to know the area where we were living. Flo accompanied us every day to the hospital until we felt safe to do it on our own. Flo is living in the same house as the volunteers and was always and for anything here for us.

Accomodation:
We were in a big room with 2 comfortable bunkbeds and had enough space for our luggage (clothes and personal stuff) in wardrobes. We had an aircondition, which was absolutely necessary. Mosquitonets were provided at every windows and also around the beds. We had a bathroom for our own with a bathtub. All the rooms were cleaned by the staff weekly.
Sometimes the power was not working (Musthave: bring your powerbank and flashlight with you :)

Food:
We got a mealplan for every week. The food was freshly prepared, very delicious and varied. We ate together with Flo and Rubby every evening. Sometimes we could help and learn how to cook the local food.

Safety:
We felt very safe in and aroud the accommodation. We had a locker for our valuables. During our weekendtrips Flo helped us organizing the transport, accomondation and daily activities, which was absolutely amazing!

Volunteering:
We were able to have a look around the different departments at the hospital (such as general ward, theater, emergency, maternity). We could decide where and for how long we want to go. The hospital staff was very friendly and interested about us. We were allowed to help them, although many things is done differently. Also we had the opportunity to have a look at the local school for one day.

Value:
The price included the accomondation and 2 meals per day.

We strongly recommend The Sunshine Volunteers Organization to anyone who wants to make an experience as a volunteers and at the same time travelling and exlporing a new country.

We have been to Ghana twice before for medical volunteering with a different organization. During these trips we also met with Flo an Kristy. Coming back to Ghana we were really looking forward to seeing what they've built up with their own organization. Since we have heard great things about their projects and ideas we were really excited to see these with our own eyes. 😄

Since we only had a limited time available, we decided to not doing volunteering this time but to only go for a visit. Despite that, Kristy as well as Flo have been really helpful with all our pre-departure questions as well as the visa invitation letter.

They also offered us to stay at their new volunteer house which has been a great experience. The rooms are decorated with love for the detail, everything was clean at all times and we loved to spend our evenings with Flo on the huge porch watching beautiful sunsets. Flo also made an incredible effort with the food. Every morning she prepared a deliscious breakfast for us and since she knew how much we love ghanian food, she also made it possible to cook together several times. Furthermore the house is huge and there is enough space for many volunteers without having the feeling of it being too crowded. Especially the living/common room with it's comfy Sofas and a TV invites for cozy evenings and good talks. Altogether we would have loved to stay longer at this beautiful place and are sure of it having the potential to become a second home for future volunteers.

Regarding the volunteering pograms we had the privilege of to be shown all of them by Flo. Each and every program partner has been chosen carefully and we really thought they're all amazing. No matter whether it is one of the schools where the teaching projects take place, the hospital where the medical volunteers can go to, the football club for the sports program or the Garden City School for disabled kids - the people working there have all been very welcoming. We have had a great time playing with all the lovely kids at the different schools. Especially being part of a recycling project where we have been making pieces of art out of recycled plastic spoons has shown us once more how eager to learn children are and how much fun it can be to teach them new things.
Since we are both nurses we were specifically interested in the hospital. After visiting the Suntreso Government Hospital we are sure that it is a great place for medical volunteering where one will be able to get a deep insight into the Ghanian health system as well als learn a lot from the nurses and doctors working there.

Overall we can't recommend the Sunshine Volunteers enough. 🙂 Not only due to it's incredible programs and volunteering opportunities but also due to the people who make all of it possible. Despite Kristy not being in the country during our stay she texted us several times asking if everything was okay and if we had any questions or wishes. Flo being our host went above and beyond to make us feel at home, show us all the projects and help us with any difficulties or questions we might have had. In addition we just really enjoyed the time with her and all the other great people we got to know or met again. It has definitely not been our last time in Ghana! 😄

If you are thinking of booking a trip with the Sunshine Volunteers Group don’t hesitate!! They are AMAZING!!! From start to finish Kristy and Florence went above and beyond.

To start off, the pre-departure support is incredible. I was going on a different medical work trip (unrelated to the sunshine group) to Ghana alone. As a solo female traveler I was quite nervous and wasn’t sure where to stay, what to expect, how to get around, etc. I posted a few questions in a facebook group as I was getting no support from my own trip, and Kristy immediately started messaging me. I wasn’t even a volunteer with the group at this point and Kristy messaged me pages of advice, guided me on places to stay, where to get groceries, how to get a SIM card, where to exchange money, etc etc. She then put me in touch with Florence, who was truly my saving grace during my time in Ghana. My trip took a turn for the better after meeting her. She took me on an entire day trip to see the different sites of Kumasi (the museums, sword site, central market, mall), a night out for karaoke and dinner, invited me to her home and showed me how to cook a true Ghanian meal, and just became such a great friend. They are willing to tailor your experience to anything you want to do and work hard to ensure you’re having a truly authentic and cultural experience.

Other things of note:
- The different volunteer opportunities available are all amazing, and I recommend doing whichever you feel a connection to. Getting to see the children and schools was such a heart warming experience, and you can just see how you’re making a difference to these children’s lives
- The accommodations are lovely - a huge and very clean house with clean bathrooms, kitchen, and mosquito nets on the beds.
- Joshua, their trusted driver, is also an amazing person and friend
- Safety - I never once felt unsafe with Florence, Joshua, or at their home. Compared to other accommodations I had in Ghana (outside of the sunshine group) this one was 10000X better

Overall, if you’re considering a volunteer experience HIGHLY recommend this one. I’m already planning my return to both volunteer and just to visit the amazing friends such as Florence I made along the way.

This experience/journey was amazing. Starting with the incredible support the employees of the Sunshine Volunteers Organisation gave me before the trip. For me, it was the first time visiting Africa. So there where many things I had to do before this journey was even possible. For example, getting vaccinations, getting a visa, booking flights, etc. The Sunshine Volunteers organisation, in form of a lovely woman named Kristy, always answered my questions and even offered help when I didn't ask for it. This made all of it so much easier and made me feel as I'm in trustworthy and careing hands.
Firstly when I landed in Accra (the capital of Ghana) I felt very lost. A new country, a different culture and not everyone is speaking English.
But when Florence picked me up outside of the airport, she handled everything. And this was just the beginning. Looking back, I can proudly say she was a stranger who turned in to a friend i really do appreciate. Three weeks she was by my side every day and made everyday a new and exciting adventure. I feel very grateful that I had the chance to experience the "real" Kumasi/Ghana, not just the touristic parts. Because that is exactly what I came for. Seeing how the Ghanains live, experience their culture, their food and even attending to a funeral. I startet as a stranger but ended up feeling very welcome in every way possible. I always felt very secure and there wasn't a second I was scared, because like I said I was in safe hands.
Also the accomodation was very nice. I had a comfortable room, with air conditioning and a fan. There was a nice and clean bathroom next to my room, so there was nothing essential missing. Another point is the nutrition. Because of Florence, I really tried and experienced every local food possible. You just have to be open to try some food you don't know yet.
Also we cooked together, so it was even more fun.
I did the sports volunteering program and I really recommand that one, if you are into sports (especially football).
People in Ghana are crazy (in a good way) when it comes to football. It made me so happy playing with the people in Kumasi and see them enjoying the beautiful game. It is even more heartwarming, when you realize that their situation in life is everything but easy, but you still see them smileing and enjoying while playing football with you. From the very first training I felt very welcome and respected from the whole team. There were always good vibrations inside the team (including the coaches).
This journey and this unique experience was absolutely worth every single coin I spent on it and I honestly would reccommend The Sunshine Volunteer Organisation to everyone who is open minded, want to experience something and most important want to have a good time you will definetly never forget.
