I recently purchased a sofa and on 2 occasions prior to buying I dealt with Amy Ireland who was welcoming, knowledgeable, and patient while I asked questions and compared options. Very disappointing experience
Very disappointing experience
I purchased a bookcase from Sterling Furniture and was extremely disappointed when it arrived flat-packed. I could not find anything on the product page that clearly stated the bookcase was supplied flat-packed.
When I contacted customer service, I was told that the delivery information shown under the products indicates the delivery charges and whether products are assembled, and I was also referred to the company's terms and conditions.
I don't believe a customer should have to infer from a delivery method, or search through terms and conditions, whether a large piece of furniture will arrive assembled or flat-packed. In my view, something as fundamental as this should be stated clearly and prominently in the product description before purchase.
I was also very disappointed with the quality of the bookcase. When I wanted to return it, I was told that collection would cost £65. Sterling did subsequently confirm that I could return the item myself to one of their stores free of charge.
Unfortunately, I also found the tone of the customer service correspondence unhelpful. After I said I would leave a review about my experience, the response ended by saying that they welcomed reviews but “just ask that all reviews are accurate.”
I am therefore doing exactly that: accurately describing my experience as a customer.
I won't be shopping with Sterling Furniture again.

I appreciate your comments regarding the information provided on our website about furniture assembly. We understand your view that whether a product arrives assembled or flat-packed is important information when making a purchasing decision.

I am also sorry to learn that you were disappointed with the quality of the bookcase. While our return policy includes a collection charge for unwanted items, I am pleased that we were able to offer the alternative option of returning the item to one of our stores free of charge.
We apologise if any part of our communication came across as unhelpful or caused frustration. This was certainly not our intention. We value all customer feedback and recognise its importance in helping us improve our products and services.

We were looked after by 2 very helpful & patient members of staff. Katie was very knowledgable and nothing was too much bother when we bought our suite.

Very knowledgeable, helpul and friendly staff
Stefhanie was really helpful when I purchased a mattress and bed. She was very knowledgeable about the different makes and really clearly explained each of the different brands of mattress to me and how to decide if a mattress was the ‘right fit’ for me.
She spent lots of time with me, but also left me to explore the different options myself, while still being on hand to answer my questions. I didn’t feel rushed at all and there was no ‘hard sell’ which I really appreciated.
Once I’d made my choice she clearly explained next steps, delivery timeframes and what to expect ahead of delivery and on the day my order will be delivered. She made the whole purchase experience painless.
