Worst insurance ever, took most of my money from me took 11 months for a write off, took different fees twice, they are a scam couldn't be bothered fighting for my money back because they are just scum.

one of there clients crashed into me she was on a learners license no full license driver in the passengers seat wrote my car off and all they could offer me was to pay the remaining balance of my car off they come an towed it now I'm left with no car and 1000 dollars that's a joke!!!!

if I had a choice, I would have given them a minus rating because their service was inferior and dishonest, did not provide information about their policy, or indigent claim system, and inappropriate and unprofessional behavior. I recommend that do not engage with them.

Appalling service when you need them most.
After multiple calls and several hours wasted waiting for someone to pick up, almost one month later, State suggest I should withdraw the claim as they won't pay and this will avoid it to be on my record??? They forgot to say, on theirs also as a not paid claim.
Even getting my old (dead) item from their approved repairer was a total nightmare.
I love their moto: We are there when you need us most!

Phone wait times are terrible, can’t update policy’s via the app. Phone service don’t know what to do so they shuffle you along to another person which results in more wait time

Can only use phone contact which results in endless waits, endless shuffling around by unqualified respondents who don't know anything and have to repeatedly ask supervisors to clarify most basics matters.

Absolutely appalling customer service. 1st they deny me a claim for my vehicle that was broken into, because I couldn't bring up a receipt from 5 months ago. I received cash from a wrecker. I had text messages, emails, change of ownership etc. Then they keep charging me / stealing money off me every 2 weeks for this vehicle that hasn't been in my possession for nearly 5 months. Multiple times I have contacted them, 3 different people and nothing is being done. Nor are they refunding me for the blatant thievery they continue to be doing. I'm still waiting for contact after mulitple attempts at contacting them to be told "someone will be in touch soon" . Also their website is always down. DO NOT GO THROUGH THIS INSURANCE COMPANY. There are many other companiesout there that treat their customers with respect.

online system doesn't work. no email response to trying to reset password, getting verification code. response to trying to reset as new user was to email me and ask to contact state to verify policy number. email was a do not reply email. can only use phone contact which results in endless waits, endless shuffling around by bored respondents who don't know anything and have to repeatedly ask supervisors to clarify most inane matters. in short appalling service

My vehicle claim remains unresolved after seven weeks. I was the victim of a hit and run but witnesses took the offenders number plate.
State have changed dramatically, are now rude, ignore emails and have been obstructive. They provide a complaints resolution service but have not acknowledged my complaint as promised. In any case it's a bit like marking your own homework. Disgraceful and in my view fraudulent, in that they claim to provide insurance but so far, have not, for no reason at all. Don't even think about State. I have six policies and will be finding another provider, even if more costly. They cannot be trusted. I will take this complaint as far as I can and spread my story to as many as I can

State are absolute rubbish. they kept taking money out of my bank for a policy that was cancelled. As the policy was not in my name they would not stop the PAYMENTS EVEN WHEN THE PERSON TOLD THEM THE POLICY WAS CANCELLED. UP TO ABOUT TEN CALLS FROM TO STATE AND THREE FOR THE PERSON WHO OWNED THE POLICY

In my early twenties and living on my own for the first time, I chose State as my insurer of choice for both my car and contents.

When my house was broken into and my belongings stolen, I was proud to have paid for insurance and so lodged a claim.

They sent an 'investigator' out who spent over two hours intimidating me into dropping my claim. He had a copy of my credit file (which I didn't authorise) and among other things claimed I was trying to scam money to resolve a default from years earlier (on a product I didn't understand). Despite having a police report and details of the theft, he told me that I would be sent to prison if I proceeded with the claim as it was obviously fraudulent.

I highly recommend you stay away from this company. That kind of treatment is inexcusable.

So rude ! Ive been with them for at least 30 years and each time ive dealt with them in the last few days they have been condescending with no follow through on what they say they are going to do !

We've been with State insurance for almost 30 years and never claimed anything. Instead of premiums going down our house contents and car monthly payments after so many years is now $304 per month, which is criminal. Anyway, I've finally done some research and for us in Napier we're now changing to AMP, as the cost difference was staggering.

Worst call centre I have ever dealt with. Put me on hold for 30 minutes over a simple query, then hung up. Will be cancelling my policy.

basically when you close the accident and you see it's your fault then that Great news is long as you say the truth then you don't need no worry to pay full price for the vehicle you hit
with a full licence excess fees about $300
but when he was panel beat it back up it was totally new so I drove of the car back home but with the business insurance companies car you must fill full the car back up to the top
then they would ensure your phone if it's broken they insurance everything.

Ok follow up from my previous review. Unfortunately they may have an off shore call center with really rude indian women that just hang up on you if u disagree with it that really let's them down. But after calling back and speaking to a lady in claims/recovery a different menu option I selected in call menu rather than just letting call thru to call center about my claim she really went above and beyond to sort the issue keeping the claim in progress & keeping my insurance with them (really wish I remembered her name possibly American or Canadian accent) anyway absolutely on shore office are professional and very helpful will be keeping state as my insurer.

Today has been an uproar with state call centre overseas filtering NZ calls outsource where their c/service is so bad, no email for documents in renewal policy amendments I've had to explain to 5 officers from morning upto the evening repeating myself no accountability in getting things right!! I've been with states for years, time to move on where respect & dignity goes a long way, your loss state with a valued client ☺️ find another provider

State Insurance is unresponsive, frustrating and basically hopeless to deal with. Cannot approve their own repairer's quote because their 'assessors' are too busy. Takes an insurance agent to get any information at all from them.
Not recommended.

Car had back bumper broken in October 2023. Its March 2024 and still not fixed. Mechanics said they are busy but I have seen other works are being done quicker except for insurance claim. I also have to leave my car with mechanic and spend on public transport for 4 days because they don't have alternative car for me to use. This seems like a very cheap service. Would not recommend.

Worst experience ever, very bad customer service and always takes agent to answer the phone.
Most representatives are rude and don’t have enough knowledge.
