Fabulous Stefan, Sharon & Deana
Stephan the opthalmic specialist was the most wonderful vet I've ever met. You can tell he found his true vocation in life!! My very nervous miniature pinscher had a really positive experience (and so did I as a very anxious owner!!) and appointment with him and the lovely nurse Sharon who took the time to settle Margot. Thank you both.
Also Deana Goom for being so very very kind and understanding, greatly appreciated.
My dog had the best care
We had to take our dog to Southfields for a cyst removal from his eye.
The whole team are very welcoming, friendly and professional., and customer service was excellent. The specialist vet who treated our dog was amazing. He was very thorough, obviously very experienced, reassuring and kind to our dog, as well as the nurse who was with us.
I believe if any of your pets have to go to Southfields they will be in the best hands
Best care we could have asked for!
Dom and the team at Southfields have been outstanding the past six months. The care they have shown our rabbit has been phenomenal. After being dismissed by other vets, Dom took time to listen and really understand the symptoms and from what looked like a PTS situation, we now have a thriving bunny. Whilst we are not out of the woods, the ongoing care has been exemplary. The entire team have been amazing and I couldn’t recommend them enough. Without Dom, Cassie and the team we might not have had the past four months and many more to come with our rabbit. So grateful and clearly he is too as we have binkies and zoomies again!
Really caring
After the initial communication of was really wary and read the reviews from here. My bet had referred us for a CT scan and my dog is a 10 year old mastiff, so isn’t young for his breed.
The initial wariness led me to read reviews on here which led me to look at alternate places for the scan but my vet reassured me that plenty of people had used them and their experiences were fine.
So we went ahead. My dog is an ex rescue and after some major surgery gets very stressed.
The care we received was exceptional. We were allowed to use the oncology reception area alone to be with him being sedated and coming around. We went between rooms using the outside and everything was catered for to give him the best possible experience. I could have cried with the amount of care that was taken with him.
They are expensive but they are specialists and tbh I would pay more to ensure a better experience for my boy.

We have been to Southfields on several occasions with our Rabbits. I have to say Dominic, Cassie and their team have been nothing short of amazing. Always thorough in their investigations and the treatment delivered is always compassionate and with respect. We understand care for pets can be expensive, but Southfields is worth every penny. Other vet practices have turned us away as our rabbits have ongoing conditions. Southfields understand so we would always choose them first.
Oncology coffee morning
I attended the recent oncology coffee morning hosted by Susan and Sam. This was a very well organised event and both Susan and Sam were very knowledgeable and showed they have a very high level of expertise. They are a credit to the company.

I used Southfields when my little dollydog was poorly . I can only speak of our experience . We were treated so kindly , dollydog was treated for cancer twice and we were kept up to date on all her care and treatment plan . We had such a lovely experience with them and wanted to thank them all over the years for their help . Thanks to grace surrige for the care and love shown to us during a difficult time. We will never forget the kindness shown

I would like to thank Southfield for the excellent operation they carried out on my chihuahuas Bambi whose back leg had been playing up for some time . The only thing I think they need to explain more is you usually get 4 days care with the operation and dropping off a day early count has one of your days ( not free days has said by the vet ) . I thought I would give a review has my dog was having pain after the operation and the vet realized the pin was too long so removed this a month later included in the price of the operation- I now realise my dog seems much more Happy and her leg must of been in pain before the operation- she no longer limps
Don't ever ever take your pet here
I regret taking my lovely cat to these people more than I regret almost anything else in my life. As person after person in these reviews has said, all they care about is money. I can't stop asking myself whether, if I'd ignored my vet's advice and gone to the Royal Veterinary College instead, my boy would still be alive?
Colossus had a nasal carcinoma. It was a very serious diagnosis but when I spoke to the specialist at Southfields - for a ridiculous amount of money - he told me radiotherapy was the best possible treatment for him, that he had above average chances and that average life expectancy after the procedure was two years. When I asked him if the treatment had ever failed, he claimed it only ever had on one occasion in all the times he'd given it. So I paid the £12,000 believing I was buying more years with the cat I adored.
But when they scanned him before the operation, they saw that the cancer had grown under his eye. I now realize that this meant his prognosis was far worse. If they'd told me this, I would never have gone ahead. I would never have chosen to put him through the two and a half months of suffering he went through after the procedure before I was forced to put him to sleep.
But they didn't tell me and instead let me and him go through those terrible two and a half months. I guess that £12,000 was more important to them than his welfare - or mine. If anyone working for this godforsaken company has the slightest flicker of a conscience I hope what they did haunts them.

Southfields Exotics Team are Pawsome!
I cannot praise Southfields exotics team, especially Dr Dom, highly enough, and that doesn't come easily to me as bunnies are so often let down by veterinary care.
Yes they are more expensive than your local vet, but you are paying for the next level of care and expertise that you can get. I am shocked by the negative reviews most which seem to be focused around payment. For myself I asked for a quote before I made an appointment and put myself and my beloved furkid through the stress of the travel there.
I was greeted warmly upon arrival and as I had a bunny and both the dog and cat waiting areas were in use, we were taken straight through to a consult room to wait and the temperature was adjusted to make sure the room was at a pawfect 17*c for Bernadette's comfort.
I was surprised when I booked the appointment that it was for an hours long consult, well, Dr Dom spent just over 2 hours with myself and Bernadette. He answered all of my questions, and made sure that I understood everything and felt comfortable with my decision with the treatment plan that I chose.
Bernadette is not the easiest bunny to examine - she may be 12years and 5 months old, but she can be full of rabbitude when she wants to be, especially for a new vet. Well, she made my warnings out to be as if I was a liar! Good as gold and let Dr Dom actually examine her teeth! Only the second vet in her life to be able to look properly whilst she is awake. After she had been examined she was back in her carrier with me stroking her whilst us humans continued to talk and she was relaxed enough to be toofy purring and eating her hay! I've never known anything like it, and Bernadette has chronic health problems and has spent a lot of time at the vets before. I could see then why this hospital has been rated Gold by the Rabbit Welfare Association, and I felt more confident and less anxious in leaving Bernadette in their care and for her to be sedated for x-rays. (Just over 4 years ago she nearly died having sedation for x-rays with the local vet, so I was terrified of loosing her).
I had a 4.5hour wait until she was all done and recovered enough to be discharged. And although there are tea/coffee and toilet facilities in the hospital, I mostly waited in my car as due to my bad back, I needed a bit more comfort than the waiting room. Though there are plenty of local places to go in Basildon for refreshments etc too.
The nurse I spoke with upon Bernadette's discharge was friendly and let me know how she had been - a run down on her poops, as all bunny parents know how important that is.
I had to wait 2 days for all of Bernadette's test results, but Dr Dom spent 40 minutes going through everything with me, again, making sure that I understood them and answering any questions that I had. He was super knowledgeable, friendly and helpful throughout and clearly cares about the bunnies. I love how he didn't write Bernadette off due to her advanced age and was in agreement with me that we could still improve her quality of life for however long she has left with me.
So yes they are expensive - but it was worth every penny to me and for Bernadette's future.

Above and beyond
I have been referred to Southfields for two of my ferrets in the last 18 months, both of which had complex conditions, and I cannot fault the service I have received. Dominic, head of Exotics, has gone above and beyond, is compassionate and clearly cares about the animals he treats (and their owners). Cassie, the nurse who supports him is absolutely wonderful and always happy to give advice and reassurance if Dominic is absent. The reception staff are a fantastic team and do a great job. Costs and options have always been clearly explained and I have never felt pressured. Thank you all, don’t know what I’d do without you!

Rip off….money money money……1800% mark up
My elderly parents dog - said it would cost 2-3 k before we went. When we got there, said price had gone up to 5-7k. Vet called after operation and said everything had gone well and come in under budget. Went to collect dog- had to wait in the car park for around 3 hours which then took it into another days in-patient charges. Wouldn’t return dog until bill was paid in full and guess what…… price had risen to……10.7k!!! So from 2k to nearly 11k! Went through the receipt and see they charge to “throw tissue away”, “offer water” and other such stuff that would just be automatically included. Looked up the price of the drugs - many had 1800% mark up on what a member of the public cold buy online. I’m sure a large vets like them has buying power too. One tablet, they charged £17 for that anyone could buy over the counter for 18p! Two weeks later, my parent got a further bill for another 2k!
Absolutely disgusting practice. Everything is just money. The saw my elderly parents attachment to that little dog and rocketed the costs from 2k to nearly 13k then demanded 2k more!
The outside is covered in dog muck - really covered . There is nowhere outdoors for the dogs to relieve themselves so are taken on the grass verges. Disgusting.

Really positive experience - Andres is a “superstar”
Really positive experience - cannot recommend Andres highly enough, he saved our dogs life, called us twice a day to update us and I feel he was as invested in her recovery as we were. All the nurses were super lovely and I had no doubt as to how well she was looked after.

Exemplary Support and Treatment for our five-year-old Cockerpoo Ruby. Their continued ongoing care has been second to none. A prompt diagnosis of Meningitis followed by specialist treatment prevented her death. They continue to liaise with our Pet Insurers' (Purely Pets) taking the hassle away. Our entire family can't thank them enough. 100% recommend them.

Great specialist care
The team at Southfields is highly commendable. My little piggy Oreo decided it was a great idea to swallow his ball toy on Saturday. The dream team Stergios, Inês, Andrés and Hazel saved Oreo's life over this weekend, preventing an obstruction that my first opinion vet won't do anything about, which could have been life threatening. They looked after my boy overnight, found the foreign body with expert ultrasound and immediately removed it with an endoscope from his stomach. If it was any later, it could have passed into his guts and caused a blockage. Oreo is back home in perfect condition, already playing and asking for some grub. Thank you so much Southfields, you are an absolute star.

SCAM ALERT!!!!
SCAM ALERT!!!!! Before you depart with your money to get them to settle the cost of any treatment for your pet through your insurance company, know that that is non refundable (this is the scam part). Our dog had a history of a condition that turned out to be unrelated to the treatment he required, but they refused to refund the charge for handling the claim through out insurers, despite only looking at his notes. So end result: we ended up paying the cost ourselves. Then they took over 2 weeks to authorise our claim (and only when we pushed them multiple times to do this). As an aside the specialist we saw was excellent, but the customer management is abysmal and on top of that their fees are definitely the most expensive out there…they quoted over 4* the cost of our local vet for the same procedure.
While acknowledging my review, still no meaningful response…but obviously they take your money immediately if it’s the other way round
