Wonderful 10 day camper trip
Had a really wonderful 10 day trip with Siesta! Our pick up and drop off were smooth, it's also really close to the airport which is helpful. The camper was well equipped and comfortable. We toured Portugal and Spain and it was really easy to camp everywhere. Loved this trip!
Holiday Vibes from the First Minute
I had an amazing experience with Siesta Campers from pickup to drop-off.
The whole process is super easy and uncomplicated, and the team is incredibly friendly and professional. What really stands out is the direct and personal support — no bots, no waiting, just real help when you need it.
You immediately feel welcome and get those true holiday vibes from the start. Traveling with Siesta Campers just feels good and stress-free.
Highly recommended — I would choose them again anytime!
Best adventure with my dogs
It was an absolutely incredible experience to spend a week with the VW California with my two dogs.
The van exceeded all expectations — comfortable, practical, and fully equipped with everything needed for a true adventure, without compromising on comfort. Every detail is thoughtfully designed to make the experience simple and functional, whether you’re exploring new destinations or simply enjoying the moment.
The entire pick-up and drop-off process was equally flawless. The team was extremely professional, friendly, and always available to help, which made the whole experience even smoother and more enjoyable.
I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone looking for freedom, comfort, and a true sense of adventure.
I can’t wait to do it again!
Roadtrip Algarve
Our campervan trip with Siesta Campers was an amazing experience from pick-up to drop-off.
Traveling through the Algarve in the off-season with my partner and our dog Chilly turned out to be the best decision.
The region was calm and uncrowded, but the weather was fresh but yet sunny - ideal for exploring beaches, coastal roads, and small towns at our own rhythm. The campervan was comfortable, practical, and well suited for both longer drives and spontaneous stops. We didn’t need to charge it once in our 5 day rental period.
What we loved most was the freedom: waking up near the sea, moving with the mood of the day, and really connecting with the landscape. Everything felt relaxed, smooth, and well organized, which allowed us to fully enjoy the journey.
Highly recommended for anyone looking to explore Portugal in a flexible, easygoing, and memorable way - also totally worth it in low season. 🌞🚐🌊
Great experience!
We had a great experience with Siesta Campers from start to finish. We rented a California Ocean, and the whole process was easy and smooth — clear communication, a straightforward pick-up and a van in excellent condition.
The van was comfortable, practical and very well equipped, making the trip effortless both on the road and when stopping for the night. Everything felt well organised and professionally handled.
Overall, a very soft and smooth experience. I would definitely recommend Siesta Campers and would happily rent with them again.
The perfect road trip is with Siesta Campers!
Our road trip with Siesta Campers was absolutely fantastic. This was our third time renting a camper from them, and every time it just keeps getting better. We’ve rented campers in different parts of the world, and Siesta Campers consistently stands out.
Customer support was exceptional from start to finish. Every person we spoke to was friendly, professional, and genuinely focused on making our trip easy and stress-free.
Our camper and motorhome felt almost brand new and came fully stocked with everything we could possibly need: kitchen supplies, coffee maker, cooking gear, towels, you name it. It really made traveling comfortable and super convenient.
If you’re planning a road trip through Portugal or Spain and want a reliable camper van, great service, and a truly memorable experience, Siesta Campers is 100% the way to go. We’ll definitely keep choosing them for future adventures.
Surfing Roadtrip with siesta campers
This is genuinely one of the best campervan rental companies I’ve ever used — so good that I’ve repeated the experience several times. The vehicles are always in impeccable condition, clean, reliable, and fully equipped for any kind of adventure.
The Siesta team is incredibly friendly and helpful, and whenever a small issue has come up, they’ve been quick and truly resolutive. You always feel supported and taken care of.
We’ve enjoyed unforgettable trips with their campers — surfing, kitesurfing, or simply exploring Portugal’s coastline and hidden gems. Every journey has been smooth, fun, and hassle-free.
Highly recommended. Looking forward to the next road trip with Siesta Campers!
Had such a great experiance with Siesta…
Had such a great experiance with Siesta Campers! Picked up our van in Lisabon and the whole process was super easy. The team were really friendly and took time to show us how everything worked. The camper was clean, comfy and had everything we needed for our trip. Driving it around Portugal was a dream and we loved the freedom to stop off at beaches and little towns along the way.
Would definitly recomend Siesta Campers to anyone wanting a fun adventure in Portugal. We’ll for sure use them again next time!

We recently rented a camper from Siesta with some friends for about a week. At pickup, we appreciated the explanation of the vehicle and the documentation of existing damages, although the process felt a bit rushed. We had also chosen the full insurance package, but I found it unusual that certain types of damage were covered while others were excluded, even though accidents like that can happen despite careful and responsible driving.
During the trip, we unfortunately drove into a pothole that wasn’t visible from the driver’s seat, which damaged the step under the right wheel and made it unusable. We reported this immediately upon return, but did not feel supported professionally. When we asked about the possible cost of the damage, we were told they had “no idea” and that only an inspection at another facility could determine it. The final inspection that followed was also frustrating: a representative opened a window with one hand and it came off the track, even though we had always used two hands without any issue. Despite our explanation and demonstration, he insisted it was damage. He also tried to attribute damage to the shower door hinges and to the driver’s side mirror, of which we had photo proof of being pre-existing. Some issues were eventually acknowledged, but not all were removed from the report.
Another aspect that felt misleading was the check-in time. Our check-in was at 14:00 while our friends’ was at 15:00. They were told their van was still being cleaned, but in fact, the vehicle was already marked as reserved and ready when we arrived. A more transparent answer would have been appreciated. The van also had an integrated system to monitor electricity and water, which in theory should have been useful. In practice, it didn’t work properly: the water tank often showed full when it was actually empty (leaving us without water), and the electricity readings were inaccurate.
The most disappointing part came afterwards: shortly after returning the camper, we received an email charging us €2,000. We know this is stated in the contract and that it is ultimately our responsibility to read and understand the terms. However, we think it would have been more professional if the staff had simply reminded us at drop-off, saying something like: “Just to remind you, this part of the contract applies and this is what could happen if damages exceed the €200 deposit.” That small step would have made the process feel much more transparent and customer-friendly
The trip itself was wonderful, and we created memories with our friends that we will cherish. Unfortunately, the way Siesta handled the check-in, the damage assessment, and especially the customer service afterwards left us with a very negative impression. We will not be renting with Siesta Campers again.

Lacking customer service
We recently rented a camper from Siesta with friends for approximately one week. At pickup, we appreciated the detailed explanation of the vehicle and the documentation of existing damages. However, the process felt somewhat rushed when it came to reviewing the contract and finer details. While the representative clarified which damages were covered by comprehensive insurance, there was little elaboration beyond that.
Our friends had a check-in time of 15:00 compared to our 14:00. While we completely understand that they had to wait, the explanation given felt disingenuous. They were told their van was still being cleaned, yet the vehicle they eventually received already had a “ready for pick-up” sign displayed from the time we arrived. A more transparent response would have been to state that their scheduled check-in time had not yet arrived, rather than giving a misleading explanation.
During our trip, while parking, we unfortunately drove into a pothole that was not visible from the driver’s seat. This caused damage to the step under the right tire, rendering it non-functional. Upon returning the van, we immediately reported the incident to the same representative. His visible disappointment and frustration were understandable on a human level but did not come across as professional from a customer service perspective.
The van was also equipped with an integrated system for monitoring electricity and water, which in theory should have been very useful. However, throughout the trip we were unable to reliably determine how much electricity remained. The system only displayed a voltage reading, while the battery percentage and level indicators were inaccurate and therefore unusable. We were informed that the same issue applied to the fresh and wastewater tanks. On several occasions, the display indicated that the fresh water tank was full, only for us to discover it was empty, leaving us unexpectedly without water.
During the final inspection, we observed further issues. The representative opened one of the windows with one hand, which caused it to come out of its sliding frame. Despite our explanation—and demonstration—that we had always opened it with two hands without issue, he insisted on testing it with one hand and suggested this indicated damage. He also attempted to attribute damage to the shower door hinges, though we had photos proving the issue existed prior to our rental. While he eventually acknowledged this and removed it, he attempted to assign responsibility for pre-existing damage on the driver’s side rear-view mirror as well. Although he admitted he could see the damage in our photos, he argued it appeared “more pronounced” in daylight. Despite assuring us it would be removed from the report, this was not done.
At the end of the process, the representative informed us that the matter would be forwarded to the damages department, who would contact us via email. At no point were we reminded of the possibility of an additional deposit or charge being taken.
Shortly after returning the van, we received a €2,000 charge. When contacting customer service for clarification, the representative we spoke with was condescending. On two separate occasions—once with my husband and once with myself—she stated she would send us the section of the contract specifying how damage charges are applied. We never received these emails. When I called again out of frustration, she reiterated the same statement, adding (in paraphrase) that it was not the company’s responsibility to interpret the contract for us.
We fully recognize that, as customers, there are aspects we could have handled differently. However, given Siesta Campers’ premium pricing compared to other providers we considered, we expected a correspondingly higher level of professionalism and service. Instead, at several points we felt misled, dismissed, or spoken down to. The phone representative told me she would escalate our case to management, but as of this writing, we have received no follow-up communication nor the promised citation from the contract.
I would also like to acknowledge that the trip itself was very enjoyable, and my friends and I created memories we will carry with us for the rest of our lives. We are already planning another camper trip and intend to apply the lessons we learned—such as the parking incident and other experiences along the way—to ensure an even smoother journey next time. However, we will not be returning to Siesta Campers. As with most experiences, the conclusion leaves the strongest impression, and unfortunately, our experience with Siesta ended on a disappointing note.

I can’t recommend this company at all..
In summation: Pretty dishonest practices and customer service that lacks professionalism. On top of that the vans they give you at full cost have things that don’t work (our one had 12 damages highlighted, a non operational rear view camera, sensors for batteries and water that were completely useless). Basically this tells me that if the van gets damaged they take the money from you for “fixing the van” and then they do nothing and give you a broken van at full cost, just lovely.
I highly recommend getting second and third opinions once you receive the “quote” for the alleged damage caused, since you will find out it’s so much less than what they will ask you for “fixing” the vans.
Some cute marketing, nothing more than that unfortunately.
Edit after the reply:
Hi guys, it’s Luca here, not Gary. Please make sure to read all the reviews attentively since they come from different people.
Furthermore, I am not sure this is visible but Siesta Campers has been updating their reply like 5 times in 10 days. Has this been happening on negative reviews for the past 20 years too or..?
Thank you!

Nice Campers; Responsive; READ THE CONTRACT
Siesta Campers offers very nice vehicles, and their customer service team is responsive; but do read the entire contract and be aware of all possible additional charges.
They do not supply towels or sheets so that was a $50 upcharge.
When I returned the camper the person who received it told me he had to charge me for cleaning because I had not vacuumed or washed out the refrigerator (although I had power washed it as I had been instructed when I picked up the camper). He let me use his vacuum to clean the van since I had already done the power wash.
Be very clear on what countries you can drive into and what is your responsibility to inform Siesta Campers ahead of time.
Do take detailed photos of all surfaces, including the fabric and unzipped windows of the camper when you pick it up.
My only other recommendation is to know the parking rules of each country and city. I was mistaken in one case, not leaving by 8am; and was charged a $200 ticket by the town.
Nice van, great trip across Portugal
We rented a van from Porto to Lisbon. The car was in a good condition and no issues whatsoever during the rental period. After dropping the car in Lisbon we had an issue with a small tear in the canvas that was not caused by us and not recorded in the rental contract, but we managed to solve it by talking to the manager of the company. I suggest inspect the vehicle when picking it up thoroughly and request to add any issues to the rental contract just to avoid any misunderstandings afterwards.
DO NOT RECOMMEND
Our road trip through the Algarve with a Siesta Campers van was quite the adventure... and definitely not one we recommend.
Here's what happened: we picked up the van in FARO and the guy let us leave with an empty water tank, a stuck gray water tank (which we realised only 2 days afterwards) and a faulty boiler. We almost left with a used toilet cassette from the previous renters—something only avoided because my partner asked for a demonstration and the staff member had to clean it on the spot.
After reaching our first campsite, we realized the full extent of the situation and called maintenance. We were told to drive 1.5 hours back to the repair shop. After an hour there, they let us go without even a proper apology. At night, we realised the issue was still there: nothing had changed, except we had already lost an entire day of our holiday.
In total, we spent two full days trying to fix the problems, including long calls with the mechanic and the purchase and changing of the gas bottle by ourselves. Despite all our efforts, we never managed to use the van’s hot shower, and the blocked grey water system caused persistent bad smells while driving. To stay clean, we had to rely on caravan parks, which was not how we had planned to spend our time.
We were promised fair compensation for the inconvenience. In the end, we received €220 (minus tolls) for a €1500 rental. While most of the staff we interacted with were responsive and kind (which was NOT the case of the Operation Manager, who basically told us to return the van if we were not happy with it - as if it was even an option), even the friendliest service can’t make up for the stress and lost time—especially when choosing an upper category vehicle exactly for this reason.
Hired vw California for a week in May…
Hired vw California for a week in May from Lisbon. Good contact from company before hand and sent video of how to use the van - from the video it looked like it would be electric operated- roof top etc - but this was actually manual. There was a large dent in the side of the van and few marks but this was all noted on the report they sent prior to setting off. We paid for the bedding- sheet duvet and two pillows- although one of the pillows was not that great and we needed to use clothes to plump it up. The kitchen equipment was great - enough pots/pans/mugs/glasses/utensils and cutlery although it would be useful if it was in a tighter space as it did move around a bit. Plenty of room to put food etc and the fridge was a really good size.
We used the mattress from the pop top, on top of the car seat when it was laid flat as there were a few spring areas coming through. With the topper mattress it was really comfortable though and slept well. We noticed a couple of problems with the roof when it was up and informed the company straight away as that is one thing that is not covered in any insurance.
Two days into the trip we had a puncture. We were very close to our intended destination/campsite when it happened. We managed to get onto a pitch and called the helpline. He talked us through where the Jack was ( would have been helpful to have had this conversation on the original handover though?)
Getting the spare out was very tricky. The bolts keeping it up had seen a hard life and the thread had been worn. Luckily one of us knew how to sort all this out. The other wouldn’t have had a clue and when we asked the helpline guy if we could get someone out to change the tyre he said that would be a €200 call out fee even though we had full insurance which included tyre problems. Just something to bear in mind if you don’t know how to change a tyre.
We couldn’t put the punctured tyre back in the spare place because of the damaged bolt.
The following day we did manage to get the puncture fixed but the garage couldn’t replace it in the spare tyre space either so we had to put it in the boot space which meant we had nowhere for the suitcases- these had to be put on the seats for the rest of the trip when’s pretty inconvenient.
We parked up for a couple of days. The next time we drove the tyre pressure light came on again. Another panic ensued- we visited two garages although they had no capacity to look at the tyre and it didn’t seem to be going down so we took the chance that it was just a fault on the dash and drove back to Lisbon.
Explained all via email to keep company informed.
Loved the freedom of the van even with the stress of the puncture but just wanted to make people aware in case it happens to them.
Edit - Siesta offered to pay half our tolls as a good will gesture- which we accepted and really appreciate.
The perfect home on wheels — and an ideal media car
We rented a camper van from Siesta Campers as our media car during the 2025 edition of Gravel Birds, a multi-day ultracycling event across the Alentejo. For 6 days, I travelled with a photographer and a videographer, following riders through remote backroads — and the van was absolutely perfect for the job.
While we didn’t need to use the kitchen (everything was there, well-organised and ready), we did take full advantage of the space to edit photos and videos on the go, and catch quick naps on the comfy bed while waiting for cyclists to pass by. For overnight stays, we had checkpoint support — but the van became our true mobile HQ during the days.
Spacious, reliable, and cleverly designed, the camper made our demanding schedule feel smooth and flexible. It handled the Alentejo terrain without a hitch and gave us the freedom to move, rest, and work — all in one place.
Siesta Campers delivered a beautiful, well-maintained vehicle, and their team was a pleasure to deal with from start to finish.
If you're planning an outdoor event, media production, or just a proper road trip in Portugal — this is the way to go. Thank you, Siesta! 🚐🎥📷🇵🇹
we rented the VW Siesta Atlantic
we rented the VW Siesta Atlantic with my girlfriend for 1 week at the start of January. It's rare that you come across a rental company so honest and straightforward as these guys. Excellent from the pick up in Lisbon to the drop off in Faro, the van was new, clean and everything worked as it should. We had to call the support line as we forgot how to use the cooker and they were on it straight away with super friendly advice. Ive used a few other rental companies in the past with terrible experiences with Siesta evryhting was smooth and just how it should be.
Van window falling off...
Hi Siestacampers
We rented a VW converted camper around Christmas. The van looked nice and the handover was smoth. A few locking straps were broken but nothing serious.
A few days into the renting period, when the van was parked, the rear glass simply went off and fell on the ground. For some brush of luck it didn't broke.Called Siesta and was informed that I should go to a auto glass workshop within the area where I was to have them check it and glued back. Within an afternoon (about 4 hours) it was fixed.
The problem is...I don't work for Siesta. I used my time, from my holidays, to sort out their problem. I obviously asked for compensation based on this and their offer was the money for the tolls plus the cost of the toll identifier (about 50€).
I found it clearly insuficient and didn't accept it and got the reply that this things can happen.... I've been driving for 30 years and it's the first time that a car glass just falls off. Luckilly the car was parked and not in transit.
To be perfectly transparent they still ofered another 35 euro but I was so disapointed that didn't even reply... when you pay 650 euro for 5 days that is not even a full day of rental.
Anyway, there were a couple more things that I had no intention to complain about but since I'm here... - The material used in the conversion seemed to be of poor quality
- the curtains fixing were broken on most places.
- The toll identifier was somewhere lost in the car and no one noticed until we passed one toll, when we call back we were told not to use the auto tolls...
- The cups and cutlery were dirty
- the gas bottle was connected when the van was handed over to us (for safety reasons, when travelling the bottle shoudl be disconnected)
- the advertising was that the price per day was around 70-80 euro but with all the tax and fees the final price was more like 130 euro.
Not happy, not coming back
PS: replying to Siesta campers:
-guys, this was not a VW transformation so please don't put the blame on on them.
-In this camper I'm pretty sure it was a normal gas valve, so don't drive with the gas on.
-Glass does not get exasperated... people do.

Renting from Lisboa
We had a really great trip in south Portugal with your campervan even though we’ve had minor problems with the heating of the water but nevermind, we are definitely renting with you again!
Plus the price was one of the best on the market at that time and the customers service was really friendly and helpful in Lisboa.
