A cash card for the LD at last…
I wanted a card for my adult LD son so that he would never run short of cash. Ordinary banks only provide a debit card which runs the risk of having up to £100 stolen from it if lost. Sibstar protects against that as I can control the amount on the card instantly from the Sibstar app on my phone. It took some getting used to as one needs to set up daily and monthly spends, plus where the card can or cannot be used - shops, ATMs, on-line etc. I can also check immediately the card balance, where it has been used and what purchases have been made. I made errors setting up the the card several times to meet my son’s needs but staff always responded promptly and patiently to put me right.
My son loves his card, feels more independent and I never worry that he hasn’t enough money when he is out.
Card takes a while to arrive but persevere - it’s a godsend.

A really good card all round
My father has Alzheimers so my sister and I have P.O.A and needed a foolproof banking system whilst still allowing my father some degree of autonomy.
There were a few teething troubles and a couple of steps that I wasn't sure of; but since we have got that cleared up - with prompt and clear customer help online. We have found the card to be really useful for us as a family. We can see every transaction, freeze the card if necessary, put limits on spending. And most importantly my dad doesn't feel like we've just removed all of his independence.

Very useful card for the time we needed it for mum, allowed her to remain independent whilst remaining in control of her finances.

I was happy to find a suitable card for a vulnerable young person to use and although slightly difficult to set up for me, I have found the telephone help line easy to get through to and received the guidance I needed. A subsequent request for a change on the account was also quickly dealt with.
Sibstar has given their independence back
Sibstar has been a lifesaver. Traditional banks were unwilling to provide a suitable alternative for my relative to pay for their own needs, like food shopping! This card gave my relative a measure of independence back. We are happy that they feel they can shop for their own needs safely again, giving us peace of mind. Highly recommended!"
Game changer
So far they have been really helpful and it has been pretty straight forward to set up. Having the daily spending limits is a game changer. (I didn't realise at first the ATM and debit cards are each a separate limit, so remember to add them together!) High street banks can limit daily spending but the ATM amounts are set at around £250. Hoping this will enable my family member to keep their independence safely for longer. Being able to hop onto the app and check it instantly, plus get real time updates, is hugely helpful and gives us all peace of mind. Would definitely recommend.
OK but room for improvement
The card works and basically does the job, allowing me to control the spending of the cardholder, for whom I have Power of Attorney. However:
1) Web site info could have been much better. It didn't really explain how the card works, and didn't even tell me that the cardholder has their own app through which they can check how much is on the card. I eventually found this out via the customer services team, but it took a while!
2) The only way to transfer money from account to card (other than auto top-up, which I don't want) is to do so instantly on the app. So, I wish to transfer £25 to the card every Monday and Thursday, but there's no way to schedule this in advance or set up a "standing order" (or if there is I haven't found it). I have to go into the app every Monday and Thursday morning to do an instant transfer, which is very inconvenient.
Fantastic
Fantastic, helpful customer service and very easy to use app giving our daughter supervised financial independence. We are all very excited about it.
How Sibstar Helped Maintain Independence with Dementia
I’ve had a very positive experience with Sibstar. Communication was clear throughout, with regular email updates that made the whole process feel much smoother. William was especially helpful as a point of contact, keeping me informed every step of the way.
I arranged this card for my mother-in-law, who has mixed dementia, to help her maintain some independence. As she put it herself, “I might one day need to buy a coat” — and that really sums up how important this has been for her confidence.
The follow-up email was particularly timely and useful. One thing to be aware of is that not all banks fully understand Alzheimer’s and dementia, which can make transferring funds more frustrating than it needs to be during an already difficult time.
It’s reassuring that Alzheimer’s Society lists Sibstar as a partner on their website, which adds an extra level of trust for families like ours.
At this stage, I would definitely recommend the card, account, and app.
New account
There were a few issues to start with but Jasmin and William have been amazing and it is all sorted and the account is working well.
Woefully slow response times
Woefully slow response times, over 4 days, and when you are supporting vulnerable adults to leave them without access to funds/ being able to shop is diabolical.
Once you manage to make human contact the support team are actually good but it does not make up for the frustration when there are technical issues preventing card use.
Need to add that there support via telephone service is woeful as it defaults to 99% of the time.
Great solution for independence with finances whilst having controls
I needed a safe way to help manage my brother’s money, he has a life long cognitive condition and a learning disability. He lives in supporting living arrangement with around the clock carers. His personal transactions were all handled either via petty cash I deposited into a council account or a carer paid and then had to get that reimbursed. Now he has a prepaid debit card, separate from banking, which he is supported to use as required, This works great and he pays directly for his personal transactions (shopping and the like). The process to register was seamless and the support is also first class and responsive. I would highly recommend for anyone that needs to support a family member, close relative, etc. to manage their money. I really like the auto top up from the account into the card feature which means I don’t have to worry if there is enough funds as often because I can have the card maintain a minimum balance, plus there a other great features to limit cash withdrawns, use of contactless, spending amounts on daily, monthly basis. The Sibstar team are also interested in feedback to improve the app and make it even better which is great too.
Helping a guy with Down’s syndrome
Needed a way to allow my son, who has Down’s syndrome, the freedom to spend his own money with essential safeguards. It has improved his confidence and sense of independence. The application process is a little daunting but the help on the website is superb.
Security that works
What a relief when Sibstar's security came into play, successfully declining two attempted suspicious withdrawals from my uncle's Sibstar card.
The Sibstar support advisor was extremely helpful in looking into this for me, but it was a shame I couldn't speak to someone straight away. I had to make a telephone appointment for the next day, but all went smoothly and the call was on time.
Sibstar had change the way my son…
Sibstar had change the way my son manages his money . I am able to see and control how much he spends each day , even each hour . He has Downs Syndrome and has little idea about money . Sibstar has given him independence whilst not allowing him unlimited funds. It’s a game changer, I would recommend it to anyone who would be vulnerable with the use of money .
Only go ahead if you’ve the patience of a saint
I’ve had and am still having a terrible time trying to get anywhere with this company. It’s been months and they have money but I have no card. Customer service is vague at best. They’ve blamed everything, the post, a change of address but now they’re just ignoring my emails and telephone calls. It is torture and makes a distressing situation many times worse. I will keep going and I will get a card or the money they have back. It is disgusting that a financial services company can be so bad.
Solve issues quickly
Hard getting through to anyone, phone lines are always busy, but if you leave your details, someone usually gets back to you fairly quickly. Always friendly, helpful and very informative. Always help solve your issue very efficiently.
Real people providing real support
It was so easy to contact the company by phone or email - it was great to get straight through to a real person who was able to answer all the questions I had and help me get set up with minimum hassle. Very reassuring company to deal with - this is particularly welcome when navigating support for someone with dementia.
