Heartbroken and Exhausted – A Disrespectful Experience for a Culturally Important Project

I wish I didn’t have to write this review, but my experience with Shuffled Ink was one of the most disheartening and emotionally exhausting parts of creating my tarot deck.

This project wasn’t just a business venture, it was deeply personal. I poured my soul into designing a deck that honors and uplifts underrepresented cultures and spiritual practices. Every card, every image, every word was meant to be a form of healing and recognition for voices too often pushed to the margins.

But working with Shuffled Ink made me feel like that intention was not only dismissed, it was actively undermined.

From the start, I asked specific questions to avoid a brutal end with Shuffled Ink. I was connected to the representative and was unfamiliar with their business practice. I asked her in our initial call, was there anything important I should know. The representative gave me basic information and I had to probe for specifics, which is always a tactic utilized on undeserved communities. I was met with subtle condescension, to the point, I had to ask if I could be assigned to another Project Manager.

After overcoming barriers with the representative, I decide to give Shuffled Ink a fair chance to earn my business. Once, I completed the Order Form, I worked with the Graphic Designer who was a breeze to work with and the best part of my experience with Shuffled Ink. He was personable and added alot of value to my experience.

I had implemented my marketing strategy and started to promote my deck when I found out the production timeframe was four weeks. Although, I made every effort to ask for key information before starting the journey with Shuffled Ink, I found this out four days prior to my release date.

After voicing my concern to the representative and again being met with condescending response and blaming the customer, I ask to speak to her Manager.

Her Manager, was bias from the beginning. I advised her of the situation and told her I was shocked by the new information. I explained my first conversation with representative, which she dismissed and told me if I had a specific release date, I should have told them.

She advised it was my responsibility to basically know their production time. She never apologized for any inconvenience, but also met me with a condescending conversation. When I called her out for her bias and racist antics, by asking her is she talking to me this way because Im black, she dismissed my entire project and told me good luck.

I cannot stress enough how painful and alienating this experience was. I expected partnership, communication, and care. What I got instead was zero accountability, and a sense that diversity and cultural nuance were an afterthought, or worse, a burden.

To anyone creating work that centers marginalized identities: think carefully before trusting Shuffled Ink with your vision. Because if your story doesn’t fit neatly into their mold, you may be left waiting, unheard, unseen, and heartbroken.

I have had to continually update my review as Shuffled Ink continues to open case with TrustPilot to have it removed. This was my genuine experience from my perspective. No harm intended. I just wished Shuffled Ink wouldn't treat customers poorly then make demands to have reviews removed. The key to a great reviews is quality customer service for everyone. I did not have that experience. Especially since the owner sent me a follow up, dragging me through the mud on the review. If I was Shuffled Ink, I would just leave it alone. The review from the owner was distasteful and classless. This would not be a response you would want other customers on Trustpilot to see.

We couldn't be happier with our experience using Shuffled Ink for our wedding favors. We had a unique vision: creating custom cards featuring our bridal party and important people in our lives as fantasy characters from a couple of our favorite books. What could have been a complicated custom order turned into a smooth and enjoyable process. The cards turned out fantastic! The print quality was crisp and vibrant,
The staff at Shuffled Ink were incredible to work with throughout the entire process. They were responsive, helpful, and clearly understood our vision. Their communication was excellent, and they made sure we were completely satisfied with the design before printing.

These custom cards were a hit at the wedding!

Customer service was quick and clear. The quality of the cards and box was excellent and the reproduction of the images we sent were exactly as we had submitted. Their design staff was very helpful in making suggestions. There were many options for selecting just the right kind of card and box that we needed. They also were able to produce a brand new product (a display rack) for us to order.

I have been wanting to create a deck of cards for years and Shuffled Ink helped make that possible. They were great to work with and very responsive. Turn around time was very quick and I am very satisfied with the results.

From my first contact requesting a quote through production, the service was stellar and personalized. I had actual people to email and call to get help with my project and when it came to the final proofs, I even got an email to confirm when they saw something that didn't seem right. I had a great experience and can't wait to order again.

Ordered 15 decks for my cardistry deck prototype. They came super fast all the way to Europe and the quality of the cards is insane. Definitely will be ordering again. Highly recommend for any cardist or magician out there.

There are plenty of google reviews and fb reviews for this company online, but trustpilot is the site I usually go to personally for making sure a company is legit - so thought I'd go here for my review.:

From the get-go, let me say, I had an incredible experience with Shuffled Ink. When I started my card deck project months ago, it was intended only as a personal project made to be viewed digitally. However, my illustrations happened to garner some niche interest and requests from people who wanted to purchase physical decks. Since I wouldn't be making a professional board game here or setting up a large-scale kickstarter-funded project, but rather operating in an indie capacity, my aim was to find somewhere that would be willing to print a smaller capacity - in my case, around 30 decks to start - and Shuffled Ink met that parameter. I sent them a request for an estimate, and it soon became clear that I had designed my cards at a somewhat unorthodox size - long and narrow, and not the typical tarot ratio. I worried this would make them impossible to print, but Shuffled Ink proved they were ready to adapt to the project, no matter how small. They offered to custom-cut to the size at no additional cost, though if I wanted rounded edges to that scale there would be an additional fee. If I were working with a better budget or toward a higher quantity of decks I would definitely go for the rounded corders because they do look great, but for this project I decided to go for the square edges at the baseline cost.
With the sizing issue solved thanks to their patient cooperation, there then came another potential issue - I was not creating a full tarot deck, but just 22 cards, and with their odd size combined with the thin decks, the typical tarot card boxes available would not properly fit what I would be producing. Well up to the challenge, the team quickly offered me another solution - slim foldable lockboxes that could fit the small, oblong decks. Not only did they offer this solution, but to convey its potential, they took a photo of what this option would look like with a pre-existing lockbox and a dummy deck to cut my scale and number. On top of that, they took a separate photo with what the alternative option would look like - the 22 card slim deck in their typical tarot box - to contrast with the other option, explaining how the excess space would create a container that likely would not survive well in transport, aside from the aesthetic issue the dissonance would pose.
This incredible attention to detail - not just offering another solution, but also showing what my original intention would have looked like and conveying with their experience why it would realistically pose an issue, - immediately ensured my faith in their dedication to this project. While ultimately I did not go for any of the boxes - instead making my own hand-crafted container - we wrapped up the details, and I approved of the digital and physical samples. From there we moved onto payment.
Looking at the breakdown of costs, however, I found I had somewhat underestimated the total. The number made perfect sense, I had just guesstimated while rounding down. I requested another month to save up for the bill, and they were open to keeping the project on hold until then. After a month, we resumed correspondence.
In that interim of time, meanwhile, I had received some feedback on my typography and wanted to make some revisions. I worried that the project was already set in stone, however, as I had already offered my approval via email. It turned out that, seeing as I had not paid the final bill yet, the team was still amenable to receiving updated artwork. From here I promptly re-submitted the art with changes and received from the team a new set of digital proofs.
...Honestly, with all my odd specifications for this project thus far, especially considering how small-scale it was, I felt I had perhaps unwittingly become something of a nightmare client. Even if that was the case, however, I'd never know it from our communication. All throughout our correspondence, the Shuffled Ink team proved incredibly patient, kind, and dedicated to making a silly and small-scale project not just possible, but manifested in its best possible form. After payment went through, about five weeks later the box arrived, and I couldn't be happier with my decks!

If I were to make any recommendations, I would simply say to use the templates offered on their site before making your artwork or setting up your designs. If you really want something custom, they can make it happen! ...Buuut if it doesn't have to be so particular as that, maybe save yourself and the team a bit of headache haha.

I placed a total of three orders from Shuffled Ink. They all had problems. Missing cards from the decks. Fewer decks delivered than I ordered. Twice. Apparently they hope that customers don't count. Missed & every changing estimated ship dates. Unprofessional communication. Unreliable. Inconsistent.
