We took the 6-day, 5-night Saltankay trek & Short Inca Trail, and loved every aspect of it! The hike is fun and challenging. Our guide Marco was great. He was super knowledgeable and was extremely kind and helpful. He helped us carry our packs when things got tough and let us ride in the front seat of the bus to help with car sickness.

The breakfast and lunches were amazing! The food is so delicious.

The drivers were great and stopped when we needed brakes.

The experience was great overall. Highly recommend.

I had an unbelievable experience with Salkantay Trekking. From the logistics and customer support to the trek itself, everything was amazing.

The support via WhatsApp was excellent from start to finish, and the food throughout the trek was incredible, especially considering my dietary requirements as a vegetarian and needing gluten-free meals. I was really impressed by how well they catered for me.

Our guides, Hector and Edwin, were fantastic. They were knowledgeable, friendly and, most importantly, great fun, which made such a difference during the more challenging parts of the hike.

The accommodation throughout the trek was also great, and the whole experience was extremely well organised. Salkantay Trekking made an already incredible experience even better, and I genuinely could not recommend them more!

A 5 star review simply does not tell the entire story of how incredible the Salkantay Trekking staff made our experience over the 5 day/4 night hike. Our guides were Marco and Edwin and our cook was Santos who was helped by Alex and Ronald. I highly highly recommend requesting this staff if you are able to do so as I cannot imagine having a better experience than our group had.

Marco was our tour guide for this incredible journey and I was amazed at how well he embedded ourself within our group in such a short period of time. When it was time to say goodbye, we felt like we were saying goodbye to a family member. There are too many good things to say about Marco inside one short review but you can completely tell that he loves his group and is very passionate about his role as a tour guide. I learned way more than I thought I would about Incan culture, the biodiversity/history in Peru, and of course Machu Picchu! Marco does a fantastic job of building group camaraderie and making your group of strangers feel like a true family for the limited days you are with them. Most importantly, the Salkantay Trek can be challenging at times and Marco provides an exceptional amount of support and motivation to keep morale high. There were times when I was struggling and Marco put in the extra effort to make sure I was feeling ok and if I needed anything additional to continue on my journey. He really is your biggest supporter on the hike and was always there to make me laugh, smile, or help feel better if needed. I could not give a higher recommendation to have Marco as your tour guide and he is by far the best I have ever had in my outdoor trekking experiences!

Edwin was our assistant guide and became a true friend over our 5-day Salkantay Trek. He is embedded deep in Incan culture and shared a lot of great knowledge about the history of the Incan people as well as how these people still live today. He was very patient with me the entire week whenever I needed an extra snack, time to put on some sunscreen, or just a moment to catch my breath. He shared stories about his family and life in the Sacred Valley that go far beyond any knowledge I learned elsewhere on my trip to Peru. He told us one of his hobbies is taking photos and he absolutely did not disappoint! We have so many great group pictures and memories thanks to Edwin that I’ll cherish forever!

Santos led the cooking team for our group and was helped by Alex and Ronald. We were all blown away by the quality of meals and it was super fun to try a bunch of local Peruvian dishes while on our hike. The team does an amazing job of making sure you have the proper nutrition and fueling for whatever challenge you face next on your hike and they always have a smile on their face while doing it!

Overall, we had such a great time with Salkantay Trekking thanks to this amazing staff and the amazing accommodations you have along the way. The best memories are made when great people come together, and doing this challenging hike was absolutely worth it!

I would very much recommend reaching out to Salkantay Trekking if you book this trip to see if you are able to get this all star staff assigned to your group as our experience was that good!

J'ai vécu une expérience dingue sur les 4 jours de Inca Trail. Les deuxième et troisième, nous avons marché et dormi sousune tempête avec un déluge de pluie. Notre guide et toute l'équipe ont assuré et géré la sécurité et l'intendance d'un main de maître. Par chance, nous sommes arrivés au MachuPichu le quatrième jour avec un temps magnifique ! Excellent planning, attention to the clients and our guide Dario helped us get into Machu Picchu for an extra day after working very hard with the employees at the gate.
We couldn’t do the full 2 days inka trail due to health problems but Salkantay Trekking made sure we got the most out of it

Salkantay thought of every detail, and as a large and reputable company they had everything covered. Even when we forgot something and it was left behind, they were able to find it and have it brought to us. The Salkantay trek was an amazing experience for my friends and I. Porfirio was our guide and he made our experience excellent! He provided us lots of information on the flora and fauna and history/culture. He also briefed us every night on what to expect the next day.

Amazing value for the money. Incredible views and great to focus on the nature rather than logistics as everything was handled so well for us we could simply enjoy. Alex I was amazing highly recommend.

I highly recommend this company. I booked 3 packages from them for my 10 days trip: Sacred Valley, Salkantay 6 days trek and Palcoyo Mountain. All the trips run very smoothly and exceded my expectations. The logistics are top notch and the guides are very knowledgeable.
Zucemo, the guide from the Salkantay trek is the best of the best. He is a natural leader and very professional. Kept the group very engaged in all the walks sharing historical information. I've learned a lot from him!

Our guide Nicco set a negative tone from the very first orientation, warning us the trek was "very hard" and that he would decide after Day 1 who could continue. This discouraging attitude persisted throughout.

Day 1: Despite his repeated warnings that we'd miss lunch or arrive too late for Humantay Lake, our group reached every checkpoint on time.

Day 2: After riding a horse up to Salkantay Pass (due to mild altitude sickness), I hiked the 8+ hour descent on foot. Nicco constantly harassed me — telling me I'd make the group eat cold lunch, that I'd reach camp "at midnight," and even telling me not to "walk like a gorilla." He also recruited my wife to pressure me on his behalf when he wasn't nearby. Despite all this, I arrived at lunch on time and reached camp only 15 minutes after the last group member. I never actually delayed the group.

Days 3–4: The constant negativity broke my confidence. I opted for transport to the next campsites, missing hikes I now believe I could have completed — especially the rainforest trek on Day 3.

The contrast: On Day 4, I joined another group from the same company for ziplining. Their guide was supportive, personable, and never belittled anyone. Members of that group said they completed difficult hikes because of their guide's encouragement. It made clear how much Nicco's approach cost me.

Bottom line: The trek logistics, campsites, and support staff were fine. But a guide's job is to help people succeed, not intimidate them into giving up. I was made to feel weak and incapable, and I missed experiences I'd paid for and trained for. I hold Nicco's guiding style directly responsible for those missed days. The company should ensure their guides encourage rather than discourage their clients.

Hardcore high altitude 3 day trek was in challenging conditions with snow and high winds the guide chef and horseman were amazing made it an unforgettable experience

You have to do this trip!!! It was one of the most incredible and special 5 days of my life. Marco, our guide, was AMAZING! He kept us safe, he was hilariously funny, he so passionate and knowledge about his ancestry and he just made the trip so perfect. We had an amazing group of people doing the hike too, for which I am forever grateful. These people are now truly special friends! You will not regret doing this, trust me!
