Absolutely Horrible Service/ GDRP Breach

Absolutely Horrible Service – Data Breach, No Support, No Accountability

My experience with Meta Platforms, Inc. has been nothing short of a nightmare.

My personal account and two business accounts were hacked from the United States while I live in the UK. As a result, unknown content was published from my account without my knowledge. Instead of helping me, Meta disabled my personal account and both of my business accounts — one of which was only one month old and critical to my livelihood.

Because of this, my business has suffered significant financial damage.

What makes this worse is that my accounts contained extremely sensitive personal information — my date of birth, home address, mobile number, children’s photos, and even business payment details including credit card information through Meta Business Suite. My accounts were clearly compromised, yet Meta’s response was to disable everything and deny me access to download my own data.

Under UK GDPR, individuals have the right to access their personal data. Meta has refused to provide me with access to download my photos, my children’s memories, and my personal information. This feels like a complete breach of data protection responsibilities.

The so-called support team is beyond frustrating. Every response appears to be copied and pasted. Different agents reply each time, but the messages are identical, scripted, and unhelpful. There is no proper escalation process, no accountability, and no direct phone line to speak with someone who can actually resolve serious security breaches. You are simply ignored.

For Meta, one Facebook or Instagram account may not matter. For users, it contains our memories, our personal data, and in my case, our business operations and income.

A company that holds people’s bank details and personal data should have far stronger security systems and real human support — not automated responses and account disabling without investigation.

If I had known how this would be handled, I would never have built my business on their platforms.

Extremely disappointing, deeply stressful, and completely unacceptable service.

Fraud all the way. The number one product only have two cons: Hard to get and only for sale online. Details about production place and comparative "tests" are fake.

Not independent

That why I am not willing to post my reviews on Meta-review.

I believe they are trying but...

Their algorithms need some work. I know personally some of the items I have reviewed have gotten a small ding because of ReviewMeta's average review trust for me as a reviewer. I am 77% trusted as of now. I can't tell exactly why but one thing that stands out is that I have 2 deleted reviews. There are several reasons this happens all of which are valid. There is one reason however which is why I have two deleted that is not taken into account in the algorithm. Reviews are counted as deleted when an item is delisted. There must be some way they can sort out if the review is for a delisted item or not to understand if there might be something fishy about it or not.

I have tried to join the forum there to bring this to their attention. I'm up to about half a dozen times now attempting to have them send a verification email and the site seems to be having problems with that.

Overall it's a great idea but needs work.

Useless website

Useless website, the rating system doesn't work properly. An analysis that shows 0% unnatural reviews gives the product a single star??

It's the best option

It's the best option we have. No tool is perfect including this one. It's also not always accurate, but it's the best one we currently have, so for that I'm giving it 5 stars. It's simply 1 tool, and you should manually check reviews as well.

It's way better than FakeSpot, which I've used before and seems to produce a lot more false postiives. Plus, they aren't transparent, whereas ReviewMeta is actually transparent with how they idetntity reviews that are suspicious.

If anyone has any more alternatives, I would be happy to hear about them. The more tools we have, the more informed decisiosn we can make.

Reviewmeta is accurate

I checked a 3 different review analysers with a product on amazon that I know has fake reviews.

The two other couldn't find anything but reviewmeta did and gave a accurate report on it's findings.

Not ready for business

I really don't know what to think of ReviewMeta. I've used it on numerous occasions, each time asking for a 'Full Report' after submitting my email address and selecting 'Save Notification'. However, I've never received anything from them. So, from this, I'll can only assume that they aren't fully ramped up and the reporting on their site cannot be viewed as reliable. If, in the future, I start receiving responses from my Full Report requests and they're useful, I'd be happy to comment here.

ReviewMeta solid reliable info

I've been using ReviewMeta for a long time and while I realize that all of the information they receive to create a review may not be perfect, the review is always right on and keeps me from making mistakes in purchases that could be a problem.

Transparent in their methodology of spotting fake reviews

There's another well-known website for looking for spotting fake reviews. It's worthwhile to check their review on Trustpilot because I have found their results unreliable. The reason I like ReviewMeta, is while I may not agree with their algorithms, at least they are transparent in their methodology... and hopefully improve their methodology over time. With the other site which spots fake reviews, there's no real way in knowing what their algorithm is. And one great aspect about ReviewMeta is that they can spot when a listing has been "hijacked", so that all the reviews are actually about a different product. Amazon should really do something about this.

Reduce the Dishonest Reviews Scam on Amazo*

Never had an ISP blocked like the other review states. Never had any problems with them. I use them DAILY before making an Amazo* purchase.

So all you do is take the URL or exact title of a product and past it into the search bar. THEN it tells you if the reviews are worth a crud. Has saved me from some unpleasant purchases. Even reviews the reviewers! COOL! FREE! The site has a browser plugin. I don't use it, but it's there.

Preliminary Reports Unreliable

Was IP blocked for requesting too many full reports. Unfortunately, ReviewMeta's alternative preliminary reports are almost always unreliable as they show a "PASS" grade for products which otherwise are likely to show "FAIL" or "WARN" in their full reports. I sent two messages to their support stating I am not a bot, but they have yet to respond.

Update: Sent a request to their support email over two weeks ago and still no response. Their reply to my review here is full of it.

Excellent service, use intelligently

I don’t agree fully with what the others have written so I just want to post a short positive comment.
- This is a free service, including useful extensions and apps that integrate with iOS share menu.
- It makes it really easy to spot awfully high fake reviews on a product.
- If it fails a small number I always assume it’s likely to be the algorithm picking up some false positives. Fails 25% or more and I feel it’s worth looking at.
- Use your head, it can’t get it 100% right, it just looks for common fake review trends, after analysing, scroll down and see what exactly it’s failed on, these categories may not be important to you.
- It can’t always categorise the ‘phrase repetition’ and ‘verified user reviews as false, as many a listing I have scanned has come up at 100% clear, even with 100’s of reviews.
- Sometime what categories, and how many failed matters: high review count may be okay on own, but if it ticks other boxes that seem suspect then added together it starts to paint a picture. E.g: seems to have a high review count (from people that have posted 1000’s of them), but also brand repeats, unverified purchases and phrase repetition.

I think it’s important to use this as a tool, the results need to be interpreted sometimes, not going to be 100 as stated clearly in all results and a clickable disclaimer: (click the link to ReviewMeta above and see)
**Our analysis is only an ESTIMATE.
**PASS/FAIL/WARN does NOT indicate presence or absence of "fake" reviews.

Even in the full breakdown/graphs and explanations of each category it clearly says it’s limitations and has phrases like:
“This is within an acceptable range and it does not appear to be significantly affecting the overall rating for this product.“ - on a category with 22% negative and -0.2 overall star rating.

And of course how you interpret the result and if you want to believe some are just false positives, is up to you, more knowledge can’t hurt though.

I highly recommend this and use it on every purchase I make now, 100’s of times. Fake reviews are awful and rampant an Amazon now and this company/person is making a big difference.

One comment though, I found their responses to negative reviews in trustpilot to be in poor tone, obviously offended by the critique of their system, but a company should always deliver high costumer service, make each point but from a professional and polite manor.

ReviewMeta seems flawed and inaccurate

I have questioned ReviewMeta’s accuracies and algorithms before because of their categories for “Number of Reviews”, “Over Represented Word Count” and “Common Repeated Phrases”. For someone like myself, who does 95% of their shopping online, it isn’t difficult to rack up a lot of reviews. Amazon Prime customers pay each year to order a lot of products and it’s helpful to other consumers when they post reviews and give additional information that might not be included in the ads. ReviewMeta decreases the trustworthiness of someone with multiple reviews. While fake accounts might also have multiple reviews, ReviewMeta’s algorithm is not able to distinguish between high volume shoppers who are simply trying to be helpful and fake reviewers. Therefore, a warning shows up, which doesn’t always give an accurate representation of the reviews.

I put more faith into verified purchase reviews as well as ones with a lot of detail and photos over ones with only 5-8 words. Maybe it is because that is how I write my own product reviews. I think it’s much easier for fake reviewers to quickly write something that says, “5 Stars - works great” or “1 Star - don’t waste your money”. When a review goes into detail as to why it does or doesn’t work it has more evidence of truthfulness. I would imagine fake review companies get paid for each review, not on each reviews’ content. The number of reviews goes down the longer it takes to write each one. For some reason ReviewMeta looks down on longer reviews and a warning is issued.

I also think it is reasonable to expect that several reviews would say similar things like “Very sharp and easy to use“ for knives or scissors. Those are good statements to see in a review for that type of product, but repeated statements like this, will again give warnings on a ReviewMeta report.

If consumers don’t scroll down to read all the individual categories, they miss seeing the exact details. For an example, an LED TV might have several reviews that say “ Very bright, clear picture”, which are good comments. However, those comments would cause a Warning or Fail on the report that could deter purchases. Consumers can be mislead by the initial report information because the algorithm isn’t sensitive enough and those products end up being inaccurately judged.

Today the information I got was contradictory and confusing. I had looked at several different types of products from beauty supplies to medical equipment. Several of the products that I scanned with ReviewMeta had NEVER been done before. I received the pop up notice that it was a preliminary report and I could submit my email if I wanted to be notified when a comprehensive report was completed. The contradiction came when several of these preliminary reports gave a FAIL for “Deleted Reviews”. Confusing right! According to ReviewMeta’s own explanation, deleted reviews are only found when a product has been previously scanned and then on a subsequent scan a review no longer shows up. So if ReviewMeta had never scanned these products before, how did they find Deleted Reviews? It really made me question the way this program works and the accuracy! There is really no difference if a company submits fake reviews or another company gives a false or inaccurate report about those reviews. In the end, the buyer is still being led to believe that a product is better or worse then it really is.

I think that ReviewMeta has some serious flaws with their algorithms and the way they judge and examine customer reviews. I am even more concerned that ReviewMeta has asked another reviewer on this website to alter or delete a negative review. Again, deleted reviews are one of the categories that ReviewMeta looks at for the validity and accuracy for a product’s rating. The fact that they have requested someone to delete a negative review doesn’t help with concerns over their own accuracy and validity. ReviewMeta requested this because they said it was hurting their business, which they state is provided free of charge. How exactly would it hurt their business, if they perform this service free of charge? This alone brings up huge Red Flags as to their motivation, ethics and who is actually behind ReviewMeta.

Hi Jennifer-

There is A LOT of factually incorrect information in your review here. We'll do our best to correct each false statement and give you resources to help better educate yourself on how our algorithm works.

"ReviewMeta decreases the trustworthiness of someone with multiple reviews." - this is simply not true. Our Reviewer Participation test is much more nuanced than this and is conducted on a product-by-product basis. Please read about this test: https://reviewmeta.com/blog/reviewer-participation/

"For some reason ReviewMeta looks down on longer reviews and a warning is issued." - this again, is not true. Our Word Count Comparison test is much more nuanced than this, and is conducted on a product-by-product basis. Please read the entire description of this test: https://reviewmeta.com/blog/word-count-comparison/

"repeated statements like this, will again give warnings on a ReviewMeta report" - There is much more going on behind the scenes on our Phrase Repetition test. Not all repeated phrases are deemed as suspicious. Please read about how this test works before making false statements: https://reviewmeta.com/blog/phrase-repetition/

"So if ReviewMeta had never scanned these products before, how did they find Deleted Reviews?" - Sometimes there are new product variations added to existing listings. These new variations have a unique ASIN but share the same pool of reviews as a different product. So often you will see a "new" product, but the pool of reviews behind it has already been scanned by our servers. Here is some more information about product variations: https://reviewmeta.com/blog/amazon-review-hijacking/

"The fact that they have requested someone to delete a negative review doesn’t help with concerns over their own accuracy and validity." - When one-star reviews posted about our business contain false statements of fact, and we correct these false claims, of course we are going to ask the reviewer to updated their review so that it does not contain false information. Misinformation is a huge problem on the internet today and we're doing our best to combat any misinformation that is being spread about our business.

"How exactly would it hurt their business, if they perform this service free of charge? This alone brings up huge Red Flags as to their motivation, ethics and who is actually behind ReviewMeta."

Just like many websites, we generate our revenue through advertising. We are also EXTREMELY transparent and you can see who is behind the site and the entire backstory through many different sources.

It's a fake website designed to make…

It's a fake website designed to make you believe products are legit or not, I found this out by posting a review being a verified purchaser and a trusted reviewer for donkey's years and it gave me a score of 0% untrusted, and unverified? Thus I know its lying cause I know for fact my reviews are trusted and verrified.

I never lie and always tell the truth. This company's website mechanics are all flawed.

Edit- Your algoriths are wrong just saying I'm not the only one that thinks so.

I'm sorry, but this is simply not true - ReviewMeta.com is NOT a "fake website".

The review in question does NOT have the verified purchaser badge, so it is considered "unverified". It's the only unverified review for the product and also the only one-star review for the product, so the algorithm simply excludes it from the calculation. Out of the 100+ of your reviews that we have scanned, your average trust is 90%.

ReviewMeta.com is an estimate, we state this explicitly to every visitor, and even force them to click "I understand and agree" in order to use the site. Just because you found 1 data point out of literally billions that you don't agree with does not make ReviewMeta.com a "fake website".

ReviewMeta.com is as transparent as humanly possible. Every report includes pages and pages of data, graphs, charts and information, and our adjusted rating even has an option to open the hood and adjust the knobs yourself.
