Rent hero overly exceeded our expectations. We knew our rent was too expansive and we had a deal which wasn’t fair at all but we didn’t know what we’re our rights and how we could fix the situation.
We took a call with Rent Hero where they guided us through the process and explained how they could help us.
We accepted their help, but to be honest we expected to get news after months. Within a week of starting the case, we already had a first offer from the landlord, which Rent Hero manage to negotiate and get an increase. And finally, after a few days, we got the full money back in our bank account.
Rent Hero provides a transparent and efficient service plus having great customer service mindset. I can only recommend it and, without any doubts, I would use their service again.

I contacted Rent Hero to help us get back a fair amount of the rental deposit, since it had been retained almost in full by Heimstaden after the move-out renovation works.
We were charged for items already damaged, or not under the tenants' responsibility.
Renthero agreed to proceed with the case, stating that we could win the case.
Alex kept us updated in a timely manner, throughout the case.
It turned out that Heimstaden, as one could have easily anticipated, did not agree to return the amount argued by RentHero, and instead allowed a much lower sum.
RentHero came up with a new condition only at this point, asking to be paid upfront to take the case to the Rent board.
I believe what happened with Heimstaden could have been easily anticipated, and that the terms of the agreement should have been clear since the start.
Nevertheless, we managed to get a ver tiny amount on top of what Heimstaden had already agreed to return.

Aside from the impeccable help and successfully winning the case, the business itself is so reassuring that those who aren’t Danish have Danes who promote the idea that they shouldn’t be exploited. We contacted rent hero after seeing ads on Facebook. We were very sceptics as international students since we have always felt that in Denmark no one really wants you f**ck you over. We reached out to Alex, who was very kind and patient with all our questions regarding the case, the landlord etc. He was always super kind and responsive. After a year *(because of Covid and the landlord's lawyers) they were able to reduce the rent by 3800 dkk / month (515 euros - 6182 euros in a year). IT'S a HUGE amount on the 18600 we were paying.
The landlord paid all the rent back till the latest update of the rent (it happens every January that they increase like 30 euros because of inflation etc).
Rent Hero took care of everything and the whole thing ran very smoothly without effort on our side. Exactly what you need.
Again, we are super happy with the service and we basically got free money (something very hard nowadays).

In July 2021, I made a review of this company here on Trustpilot. Since then, a lot of new things have transpired in the still-ongoing case.
On 21 June 2022, the owner of the company made a reply to my 9-month-old Google review of the company.
In said reply, an “Alex Dagil, Co-Founder of Rent Hero”, among other things, made the following statement:
“[…]I’m addressing your rather serious allegations here for others reading it […]we haven’t lost any GDPR case and we win 99% of our cases regarding rent-level […]”.
“Allegations” is a curious choice of words, as it implies opinion, rather than fact.
Fact is, on 14 September 2021, the Danish Data Protection Agency (“Datatilsynet”) ruled on a complaint I submitted regarding this company. In their decision, Datatilsynet expressed criticism of Rent Hero ApS for failing to comply with Article 15 (3) of the General Data Protection Regulation, in short GDPR. The article concerns a registered person’s right to insight in what a company has registered about said person. The company repeatedly ignored my request for such insight, hence the criticism.
Naturally, I have kept a copy of the decision for validation purposes, should Alex Dagil decide to, once again, report my Trustpilot review for “defamation” and/or for not having had any real contact with the company. My review of July 2021 is still accessible on here, after it underwent verification by Trustpilot.
As for “winning 99% of our cases regarding rent-level”.
On 28 October 2021, the company owner gave the following reply to another 1-star review on Trustpilot: “We have not been contacted by Forbrugerombudsmanden and there's nothing illegal about our business”.
Well, on 12 July 2022, the Danish “Forbrugerombudsmand” (Consumer Ombudsman) sent a written Orientation Letter to the company – a de facto warning letter.
In said letter, the ombudsman informed the company that, according to the Danish Law on legal Guidance, including article 2(5), legal advisors are not allowed to take payment as percentage of any dividends – including “no cure no pay” practices, but must charge their clients clearly defined hourly fees.
With reference to the company’s repeated claim that they “win 99 % of their cases”, the ombudsman informed the company that putting forth false statements about their business is in violation of articles 5 and 6(1) of the Danish marketing law, and may result in a fine.
The ombudsman also wrote that they may open an investigative case on the company if they receive more complaints.
On 19 July 2022, I received a reply to a request for insight from “Københavns Huslejenævn” (Copenhagen Rentals Board). As per the reply, Rent Hero ApS has brought 397 cases to the board, of which 246 have been closed. Of the 246 cases:
1 case was a request for internment by the appeals board into a national court case
5 cases were rejected
3 cases received shared favor ruling
37 cases were ruled in favor of the landlord
49 cases were shelved
2 cases were returned for renewed assessment
148 cases were ruled in favor of the tenant
1 case was ruled partly in favor of the tenant - case resumed
No matter how you twist and turn the figures, they do not provide a “99% win rate”.
The company owner’s nonsensical and self-serving statement that they count settled cases as wins does not change this.
According to Article 7 of the Danish Public Administrations Act of 24 February 2020, any person or entity can ask for access to information, documents, etc., concerning the work of public authorities. Thus, any one person or entity can verify the above by writing the agencies in question, i.e. Datatilsynet, Huslejenævnet and Forbrugerombudsmanden.
The "Huslejenævn" has also released to me several verdicts on cases brought before them by Rent Hero, which give some – occasionally quite amusing – information.
In one case, Rent Hero ApS’ request for decision on an AirBnB rental was rejected, as was their subsequent appeal.
In another case, the tenant ended up having to pay more money to the landlord, because the landlord had charged too little in rent. I doubt Rent Hero ApS paid the difference.
One of the perks of living in Denmark is that you have right to access to a wealth of information. You merely need to figure out whom to ask.
(Brief update 14/01/2023)
Pertaining to the rebuke that the company has many cases in other cities than Copenhagen, I asked a bit around. I got the following answers:
Aalborg Kommune: 4 cases; 3 in favor of the tenant, 1 closed without decision.
Aarhus Kommune: 8 cases; 3 closed without decision, 2 in favor of the tenant, 2 in favor of the landlord; 1 in favor of both
Odense Kommune: No known cases
It thus stands that, even with their "special counting procedure", their win rate is nowhere near 99%.

Horrible legal service for tenants. I am a landlord that had to deal with the unprofessional behaviour of rent hero.
After a 2 year long process with both Huslejenaevnet and Ankernaevnet, the verdict was that the tenants acutally owed me, the landlord, money.
The tenants got so upset that the changed the legal service to a real lawyer that is trying to fix the mess rent hero created, but without any luck so far...
Be aware and try to use a serious company if you have issues with your rental contracts.

Rent Hero helped me get my overpaid rent back. Very professional approach and a friendly attitude.
Truth be told I was skeptical about the company. I thought, there are many scams or inefficient "gurus" out there. Luckily my friend recommended them as he had worked with them before.

RentHero reduced my rent by almost 40%. I first tried to negotiate with the landlord myself without success. Theoretically I could have submitted my case to the housing court, but their website states that it will take up to 1 year to get a case reviewed in Copenhagen. I knew I wouldn't be able to handle the communication in Danish plus the stress that comes with such a situation. Both Alex and Mads have been professional and speedy in their communication, updated me on everything and negotiated with an extremely difficult landlord over several months. I can not recommend them enough. Btw if you don't want a "shared winnings" scheme you can also pay RentHero by the hour.

Not only they ensured that we got all of our deposit back, but they also helped us getting back overcharged heating (of which we were not aware before).

We probably had one of the hardest cases of Rent Heroes, since we were very unlucky with our former landlady and things got escalated very fast and got completely out of control. We wouldn’t have dealt with such a situation without the help of Rent Heroes. It was not one of the cases that would had been solved by just filing the paperwork and we needed advice and help at many points, since we were constantly harassed and threatened.
Below we describe briefly our story:
We were renting an apartment in Vesterbro for 13.000 DKK per month for a 2 year period. The apartment was in a building from the late 1800s, furnished and with a landlady that was very responsive and nice. We moved during corona times, same day the previous tenant was moving out ( so without renovation) with whom we exchanged keys, with the landlady present, even though she lived abroad at that time.
We had a very good communication mainly via texting, she was responsive and dealt with the apartment’s problems fast (electricity, internet, etc). After 11 months in the apartment she texted us that she had some problems with her bank and that she might have to sell the apartment and therefore we had to move out. We were completely shocked since we had a 2 year contract (with the prospect of extending it), in which she had put a term that she can break the contract with 1 month notice.
We went to the Rent Heroes for advice, who told us that we overpay rent and that no landlord can put such terms in the contract, according to the Danish law. When we informed her that we went to lawyer and after Rent-heroes contacted her, she became completely furious, threatened us that she will kick us out in 1 month and that she has connections and we do not want to mess with her. We kindly asked her to talk to us through our lawyer, since she was constantly harassing us by texts and phone calls (all day long). She refused to talk to Rent Heroes and kept threatening us that she would throw us on the streets, that she would come to the apartment to cut everything off, even though the Heroes had informed her that she could not enter our house legally without notice. Then we had to block her in order to prevent her from directly talking to us and then she started messaging us via emails, Facebook requests and unknown numbers. Eventually she cut our internet and a few days later our electricity, by contacting the providers.
The rent heroes had to file a harassment case to the police, but things kept escalating. At the end of the month, after we payed her next month’s rent and while we were at work, she hired someone to come to our apartment and LOCK US OUT. The Heroes talked to the police and after processing the case (2 days) they informed her that she has to unlock and let us in to take our stuff.
In the meantime we had to stay to a hostel, and had to buy clothes and underwear since we had no access to our stuff. We got everything out and moved it to a storage room, we took a video of how we left the apartment and a video of leaving the keys to a neighbour. We had to find temporary stays for 2 months, until we could move in to our new apartment.
After everything she did she claimed we vandalised her apartment and that she wanted 80.000 DKK for renovation. The police of course rejected her claim as it was full of lies without any proof.
Eventually our case was processed by the Rent Control Board and we won on all grounds! They reduced our rent by 50% (!) and decided that she should return our entire deposit and prepaid rent. We wouldn’t be able to put up with all of this abuse and pressure if it was not for Rent Heroes, as being an expat and not being aware of Danish laws is very overwhelming in a case like this. They are great and honest professionals who stood by our side through very tough times and we wholeheartedly recommend them! :)

I was an expat living in Denmark for a little while. Long story short, I ended up being overcharged for rent and my deposit wasn't returned to me right away.
The guys at Rent Hero did me a solid though, and sorted the whole thing out for me while I moved out of Denmark and back home. The experience took longer than we'd all hoped, but with Covid going on it was to be expected.
In the end, I was awarded my deposit, overpaid rent and a little interest on top.
It's a shame things like this have to happen in the first place, but Alex and Mads made the whole thing easy and I didn't have to worry about it. In the end, the cost was well worth it - I wouldn't have known what to do.
