I expect a lot from my online shopping experiences, but this time, I was left disappointed. The product arrived two weeks late, which really messed up my plans. When it finally got here, it was packaged poorly — the box was torn and it looked like it had been through a lot. The item itself is alright, but definitely not worth the hassle of waiting and worrying about whether it would arrive in good condition. I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon.

Found Planthood via an instagram ad that showed the nicest young couple evidently channelling their passion into this dream. A wonderful website and user journey allows you to choose meal kits from a selection; and you can change your mind before payment is taken. I order 3 per fortnight to ensure nothing gets left in the fridge unused (our lives don’t always suit planned cooking). The illustrations and recipe methods are super appealing. Then there’s the taste…. Absolutely delicious, big thumbs up! Brilliant concept that makes an average weekday evening feel special.

A genuinely exciting alternative to takeaway, even if you’re not vegan

I’m not vegan, not even close. I love meat, although every now and then I may go through a vegetarian phase. Recently, however, I decided that I wanted to eat more healthily and include more plant-based foods in my diet, which is why I decided to give Plant Hood a try.

My original plan was simple: if the vegan meals weren’t filling enough, I could always add some meat. I was one of those people who assumed that vegan food might not be satisfying or substantial enough. I’m very happy to admit that I was completely wrong.

The menu may not be enormous but I have never struggled to find something that sounded delicious. Every recipe we have tried has been genuinely impressive. The combinations of ingredients are creative, unusual and unlike anything I would normally think of cooking myself. Often the ingredients themselves are quite simple but then an incredible sauce brings everything together and turns the dish into a real explosion of flavour.

My husband is extremely particular about food and is an excellent, enthusiastic cook. He is not vegan either and was initially very sceptical about the whole idea. In the end he absolutely loved every single dish we prepared.

Plant Hood is perfect for anyone who is tired of eating the same meals, fed up with constantly deciding what to cook for dinner, or simply feels as though they have already tried everything. The recipes are definitely not for people who prefer bland food. If you enjoy bold flavours, unusual combinations and seriously good sauces, this service is absolutely worth trying.

It is more expensive than some other recipe-box services, but in my opinion the quality and originality of the meals make it worth the extra cost. It also genuinely replaces a takeaway for us, which helps justify the price.

Some recipes are very straightforward, while others require a little more effort. I should mention that when a recipe says it takes 20 minutes, it usually takes me closer to 40, although that may simply be because I’m a slower cook!

My only real criticism is the freshness of some of the more perishable ingredients. For example our box arrived on Monday but by Wednesday the cucumber was already looking rather tired. I still used it but it was not something I would have chosen in a supermarket. By Friday the bag of spinach for our final recipe had completely given up on life, and we had to buy a replacement.

There are not many highly perishable ingredients in each box so this has not ruined the overall experience. However considering the price of the service, I would really like the fresh vegetables and leaves to arrive in better condition and last throughout the week.

Overall it is obvious that a great deal of thought, creativity and care goes into Plant Hood. The attention to detail is excellent, and you can tell that the people behind the service genuinely care about what they are creating.

Will I continue using it? Absolutely. I may not order every week but I will definitely order regularly. I also really appreciate that deliveries can be scheduled weekly, fortnightly or even monthly.

Plant Hood has completely changed my opinion of vegan meals. The food is filling, exciting and packed with flavour, portions are HUGE, and no additional meat required.

Love the meals, taste like restaurant food. I have tried other meal kits but they are not as good. Delivery is good, even during the heatwave. Meals are really easy to prepare and good quality ingredients. I would highly recommend Planthood.

My husband and I have been thrilled to have joined the Planthood family this March. We love the variety and quality of the weekly menus offered. I am a long-term vegetarian and my husband an omnivore. Despite his initial scepticism, he looks forward to the meals we make together each week. I am grateful that the amount of protein, fibre and calories are given for each meal. The quality of the ingredients is excellent and the delivery time is always reliable. I heartily recommend Planthood and delight in the fact that no animals have suffered. Brava!

Newly retired couple, we wanted to eat more plant/ vegetables in our diet. Planthood has ticked all the boxes and introduced us to a new way of eating. We have repeated some of the recipes on the days we don’t have the kit. The quality and varied recipes will keep us coming back.

We have used Gousto for 6 years on and off, but have now completely switched over to Planthood. The portion sizes are generous and the meal choices are fantastic. The depth of flavour in ever dish is pure excellence. I wish we's discovered this years ago.

I'm vegan - but a fussy one who's not prepared to eat food loaded with unnecessary salt and sugar. With the exception of one or two meals from Planthood that contain way too much salt I've been very happy with both the quality and reliability of delivery. Customer service was excellent when something went wrong with a courier they used and the issue was resolved the same day.

Happy to recommend this company to vegans, vegetarians and omnivores alike

Founders end their welcome message with "We can’t wait to cook for you."

Except they don't. They send you a bag of food which you have to cut up and prepare yourself.

Feel utterly misled. Was really hoping for pre-prepared meals from their "chefs" that I just bung in the oven, heat up or whatever (like a previous meal ordering service I used). Nope. Here's a butternut squash for me to chop up (ain't happening).

What a waste of £45. If I wanted fancy recipes and ingredient delivery I can just ask ChatGPT for ideas and get Tesco to deliver to the door.

This was supposed to save time and effort for someone who hates/doesn't have the time or skill to prep food. Well it didn't.

Meal quality is fantastic and prep is easy

Brilliant food but delivery company poor. Leaving fresh food on doorstep in full view of road in hot sun. They don’t wait for the door to be answered before leaving box on doorstep. I have complained to Planthood last month about this and the same has happened again.

Atrocious - I ordered 5 meals. Got 4 ! And only 2 meals that were duplicated. 6 mini tacos for 4 people in 1 meal. Outrageous

I have thoroughly enjoyed cooking the Planthood meals..they’re quick and straightforward. They’re more expensive than other recipe boxes, but the quality, prep and cooking time justifies the price. I love that the dishes have a little of the “chef ‘s touch”..who would have thought that crispy beans would be so great on a salad. I just wish they would deliver on various days during the week, rather than just Monday and Thursday. At the moment, I’m off work and can order their boxes..but once I’m back, I won’t be able to.

Great menu choices, easy to skip weeks for holidays etc, reliable delivery and all round good healthy tasty food at a reasonable price. Well done!

Convenient, thoughtful and creative dishes, easy enough to put together. Five tasty healthy meals for price of one pub meal. Planthood week is our favourite week of the month.

Planthood is an amazing meal kit service with delicious, no-fuss vegan meals. I’d reached a point where I felt completely uninspired by cooking and Planthood has changed this. I enjoy cooking the meals and absolutely love eating them. I have a gluten allergy but there are always gluten- free options to choose from each week.

These boxes are AMAZING! I’m not vegetarian but have been getting them almost weekly all year. The quality is far better than any other food box and the flavours are incredible. Customer service is second to none - highly recommend!

Big fan of Planthood vegan meal kits, the ingredients are always fresh, meals are super tasty, nutritious and filling, being rich in fibre. The 'secret' sauces are however the absolute highlight, they are freshly prepared and packaged for each order (short shelf life).
The weekly changing menus offer an excellent variety of flavours and 'cuisines' from Mediterranean to Middle Eastern, North African to Southeast Asian, there is always plenty to choose from, with a range of spice levels to suit everyone's taste.
I have taken 1 star off this review due to the somewhat shoddy and careless DPD delivery service: the boxes containing delicate fresh vegetables, paper sachets and liquid ice packs should be handled more carefully, preferably not thrown from a height against our front door onto our doorstep.....

Lovely nutritious meals

I'm really happy with Planthood. They are the best meal subscription company I've used, and I've tried them all. I've stayed with Planthood longer than any other service because the food is consistently delicious. They offer a great range of vegan meals, with much more variety than I've found elsewhere. Some of the dishes I've chosen looked like they might be a bit bland, but they've always been packed with flavour and exceeded my expectations.
I honestly haven't had a bad meal yet. I'm really pleased with the quality, variety, and taste, and I'll definitely be a continuing customer.
