Pellini’s transition and new products offering
I’ve recently followed Pellini’s transition from their classic numbered system to these new sensory-named offerings, and I started my journey with the Vellutato blend. While the packaging is elegant and the name promises a 'velvety' experience, I was surprised to find that this is an Arabica and Robusta mixture rather than the pure Arabica profile I usually associate with this prestigious brand. The taste is exactly as described—smooth, low acidity, and undeniably soft on the palate—but it lacked the sophisticated depth and lingering aftertaste I was expecting from a roaster of this caliber. The Robusta presence provides a thick crema, yet it feels like a step toward a more commercial, mass-market flavor profile. It is a competent coffee for a daily break, but for those of us used to the older, more refined Pellini tiers, it feels somewhat underwhelming. It hits the 'velvety' notes perfectly, but the complexity I look for in a premium Italian espresso was unfortunately missing.
