The team at Outdoor Living Today did an amazing job for us !
The team at Outdoor Living Today did a fantastic job for us. We needed to illuminate our new landscaping for our yard, and the team did an outstanding job on the review, plans, installation and follow up. Our property at night is both amazing in terms of how it is brought to life at night, a element of safety in walking our steps to the entrance of the house, and overall a very Zen like experience. Overall, 5 stars !
Chalet
Chalet red cedar is unfortunately developing mold on bottom side panels inside. Front and side overhang not adequate for us here in Langley.
The best Purchase
The best Purchase! The quality of customer service was great, delivery time was amazing, the packaging was super tight and all pieces, hardware was included. We have received so many comments how amazing our Pergola is built and quality of Cedar wood. It really does compliment our backyard so perfectly. I definitely recommend OLT to everyone!!
Thank you so much OLT we appreciate you!
Product good-delivery bad
Love the pergola we ordered. Less impressed with the tracking and logistics however. Could not track the shipment with the link provided. Had the delivery booked for a Tuesday and the pergola was a no show. After much searching found the number for the logistic company and was told it was a two person delivery and would come first thing Saturday morning. It was not delivered first thing Saturday morning. Finally got a call after lunch and was told it was on its way. Delivery people were less than careful and had to be repeatedly reminded that cedar is a soft wood and that throwing it around would nick and chip the wood. It’s a third party that makes the delivery so maybe Outdoor Living Today needs to rethink their logistics.
8x12 garden enclosure NOT as shown on their website
We ordered an 8x12 garden enclosure.
They did not ship the back trellis panels as shown on their website. We received the hardware but not the panels.
They advised it was not included anymore but it is still shown on their website. VERY misleading advertising!!
I called and was basically told by Ute, their "customer service mgr" too bad, so sad - it is listed under some "feature" tab we didn't even see!!
And this after I called twice with NO return phone calls.
Would not recommend buying from this company!
They are quick to take your money but give no satisfaction in return.
great product. Great service.
Bought a 12x12 pergola with canopy and couldn't be happier with both the product and the service. The pergola was well designed and the installation instructions easy to follow with support readily available the one time it was needed. Another good companyto buy local from.
Great customer service!
These guys are great. We had some frustrating issues with our order and they worked hard to resolve it- very reasonable policies. We ended up with a fair outcome while dealing with super nice people. Don't hesitate.
Puchased 4x2 Garden Shed "Chalet"
Puchased 4x2 Garden Shed "Chalet". Delivered quickly. Just finished assembling. Wifey loves it, parked it next to her potting table. Assembly went well enough, basic knowledge is all that's needed...had to do a little "k-noidering", but nothing major. No regrets on this purchase at all.
It adds so much value to my home!
I built the Grand Garden Chalet and I LOVE it so much. I put a lot of research into which one to buy and I made the right choice. I wanted one that had a good size for my needs, and that also looked beautiful and would hold up well over time. It adds so much value to my house! AND it smells wonderful. I clear stained it pre-build, which I think is preserving the color. I did not coat the inside, to keep the sweet, cedar smell.
The ordering process was great and the woman on the phone walked me through it all. The procedure for delivery also went smoothly. I was able to carry the pieces to the backyard with my eight year old son. I recommend having a second person help you carry some of the larger pieces. I am 110 pounds and not very strong. Still, I was able to build it myself once the pieces were in the general right location.
Putting it together was a little confusing, but the instructions were good and I was able to take my time to make sure I was doing it right. The video was super helpful, when combined with the paper instructions. Some things don't necessarily need to be done in the order stated in the instructions. If you are placing the shed up against a wall, which I imagine most people are, take note of doing the back part before other parts, since you wont have access to the back once it's up against the wall.
I also took lots of time to make sure my ground was perfectly level, with sand, gravel, and flat bricks, which Im glad I did.
I am moving to a new house and I plan to buy the exact same shed again and build it there!
Very good experience - recommended
Grand Garden Chalet | Outdoor Storage 6×3
I was very pleased with the ship time and quality. Ordered on a Friday, shipped on Monday, came to me 9 days later. FedEx was helpful. Came in 3 boxes, all easy to carry for 2 people. Liftgate service is not needed. The boxes were in good shape.
I never thought this could take 8 hours to build, but I was wrong. There is a lot going on and you need to pay attention. If I had to build it again, it wouldn't take 4 hours. Much of your time is spent sorting, prepping, and reading. I will give you the best advice I can based on my experience.
First things first -- if you want to stain it, plan on a 2 day effort. You can always build it day 1 and stain day 2, like I did, but that wouldn't be advised. Instead, use a bunch of sheets or cheap plastic tarps, stand everything up, and spray everything day 1. You can brush, but the exterior is rough and it is a job. When the shed is assembled, and you need to get high, low, between shingles, etc., it is an arduous task. Its way harder than it looks. Lay it out and spray it! You will be done in no time. Learn from my mistake and trust me!
As for the assembly, the directions were great. I found them to be clear and concise. That said there are a few things to note:
1 - The parts were labeled nicely and generally well sized, but far from perfect. The roof especially was off a bit. The good news is that you can get away with it, but it was annoying.
2 - When securing the roof, please note that the screws provided are TOO LONG! Unless you angle, they will go through the roof!!! This is insane. Please go buy 2" screws for this part. It is hard to screw up without the roof moving, even with someone pressuring it. Drill a pilot hole to help prevent that.
3 - Pay close attention to finish trim. The back butting is different than the front. The rear needs to butt to the side or you will have a gap to fill. In the front, the sides butt up. That is weird.
4 - They ask you to attach the interior shelves too soon. Wait until the end.
5 - There is going to be a gap above the doors. I feel this is a bit of a flaw. I recommend buying 1 x 3 to create a top stop and prevent moisture from coming in, or maybe get a rubber sweep.
6 - Seams are fairly tight otherwise, but a couple tubes of clear caulk may be desired. I applied outside and in, as the roof has low overhangs and moisture will get in.
7 - The shed is not flimsy, but the base could be stronger.
8 - The doors were very easy to assemble and hang. Make sure you have a 1/4" shim. They do not provide them. Drill pilot holes for the long screws and do not overtighten or you will warp it. Use a low torque of 6 or 7 and hand tighten a bit if needed.
If you stained first, your end product will look amazing. No need to painfully try stain behind the finish trim. If you didn't, plan on a lot of time and a couple brushes. 1 gallon of stain was plenty. I used a 4" for the singles and 3" elsewhere.
After months of looking at sheds and…
After months of looking at sheds and thinking about ordering the 8x12 sunshed, i finally ordered it. It took them a few weeks to ship the item, which gave me plenty of time to make a cement pad for the shed. The shipment was delivered about a month after i ordered it, arrived in great conditon there was just one board that had a split in it and i glued it and fixed it myself. The shed was a straight forward assembly with great instructions and even a youtube assembly video which was great help. I built the shed by myself, and the hardest part was getting the roof up on it by myself, but once it gets up u can push it up and in till it fits into place. Very well constructed and designed. I was skeptical at first but now i am very satisfied and have a beautiful shed. From handbalming and unloading the shed from
Delivery to completely finishing the assembly was 3 days by myself. Would have been quicker with a helper. Only thing is you really dont get nearly enough silicone or acrylic caulking with the shed and you will need to purchase quite a bit if your looking to weather and pest proof the shed connections. I also used a lot of my own hardware as i dont think they gave enough as it could have used to make it a strong shed, i live in a windy climate tho, so i kind of had to go overboard with it. 5 star.
Defective item and no response from customer service
I really didn't want to be leaving this review. I have tried since my $600 greenhouse cover arrived in April to resolve this issue with the customer service team. They were kind enough to call me when I first contacted them at that time and assured me that I had received a defective product and that a new cover would be sent to me that week. That was April. This is the end of October. I have followed up many, many times and not one of my follow up messages has been acknowledged or replied to. I have been patient and understanding during what I know is an unusual time, but this is a terrible way to treat a customer. This company has been very busy and profitable and so perhaps they don't care about me, but I am out $600 on an item that is now in the landfill and was useless to me. I was excited about this purchase and all the wonderful things I would grow with my children over the summer. Disappointed is an understatement - I am appalled by this lack of regard.
A satisfying challenge with good results
I really was willing to let someone build me a shed but it was at least 2 months before anyone was available and then the rainy season would be here - too late!! So I went this route and ordered the Space Saver 8 x 4 shed.
I am a relatively handy DIY person but I am older (67) and short so I knew this would be a challenge to complete on my own. Building the paver base was the first challenge in terms of hauling pavers and lumber in my Kia Soul, as well as, packing the quarter minus and sand. It was the beginning of a long 2.5 week building process.
Delivery was quicker than I expected and the FedEX driver was excellent about manuvering the pallet into my single car garage.
From there I unpacked the walls and roof sections and proceeded to do 2 coats of semi-transparent Behr cedar tone stain.
I got help from my son-in-law to move the wall panels into the back yard. And a neighbor helped tilt the panels while I drilled the base plates on. Otherwise I was pretty much on my own to balance wall panels and get them screwed together. I was able to figure a way to install the roof trusses (or joists??) by myself by putting up half a section at a time. The next time I needed help was when my son-in-law came by to help me lift the roof sections onto the joists. From then on I figured out ways to do whatever needed to be done on my own.
I did not work everyday (other tasks and obligations intervened). And usually no more than 2 - 4 hours a day (because my body can only take so much😏), which is why it was a 2.5 week process. I read the directions multiple times before starting and moving onto the next section to make sure I got things right the first time. The manual was pretty good for the most part.
The wood pieces weren't always as straight or in as good of shape as I would like but it's wood, imperfections are the norm. The plywood floor was very rough on one side and lots of knots on the other. I painted it with 2 coats of porch paint to smooth it out. The only part I was totally disappointed with was the window box. It really was poorly cut with rough gouges, etc and would have been an eyesore on such a lovely shed. I did not request a replacement for the multiple damaged pieces because I decided to use my own window box setup. I am sure they would have sent me replacement pieces if I had asked.
I do think customer service was great whenever I called in with a question, both before ordering and after I received the shed.
The final product looks good and I got it done just before the first rain and no leaks! My yard is small (25' x 25') so an attractive shed is important since it will be a large feature around which I will landscape.
I don't think I need to ever build a shed again but this was a satisfying challenge. Now on to landscaping!
Super company with great service. No worries ordering from them
Over the past few years I have become a fan of ordering on line, which is inherently risky when you purchase large items. I recently bought a 12' X 24' pergola with retractable canopy, an order value of over $8500.CAD. Someone from customer service helped me with ordering the correct unit and related options (cannot remember her name but she was great). I received the goods within a few weeks (shipping alone from Vancouver to Montreal took a week). The shipping company was super as well. They helped me unload all the way to my backyard
Although not recommended, I installed the pergola all by myself in a day. Followed the instructions, which were clear and relatively easy. The end result looks amazing! Fantastic quality that will certainly last for years.
Had some minor issues but one of the OLT staff, namely Greg, helped me out and we corrected the issues. Very supportive, reactive and patient.
I only have great things to say about OLT and their products and would not hesitate to order again. If you are unsure and are reading this, trust me this is a great company.
False Advertising! Buyer beware.
I was looking for a small storage shed and having difficulty deciding on which shed and manufacturer to purchase from. The deciding factor to purchase the Garden Chalet shed from OLT was the fact that it was listed as being pre-drilled and pre-assembled and then disassembled before shipping. I am not mechanically inclined so the fact that I would be able to know that it fit together properly and that I could follow the pre-drilled hole pattern was very appealing to me. After unpackaging the pieces, I quickly discovered that it was NOT pre-drilled and obviously not put together and disassembled prior to shipping. Here is a copy of the verbiage from the OLT website:
"Components are pre-drilled. Components are assembled and disassembled prior to shipping to ensure ease of construction."
The shed was expensive for the small size, but I was willing to pay more because of the assurance that the process of pre-drilling and assembling would assure an easy assembly process. I called the company to tell them that their quality assurance process had issues because my shed got through without any pre-drilling or pre-assembly. After talking to the president of the company the telephone respondent called me back and informed me that many people don't want their shed pre-drilled because cedar is a soft wood and easy to drill and in fact that they stopped doing the pre-drilling for this reason. I told her that the product was misrepresented on their website and that my purchase decision was based in large on the fact that it WAS pre-drilled and pre-assembled/disassembled prior to shipping to ease the construction. I paid a premium price for their product for this reason. They offered nothing to make up for the fact that assembly was more difficult and for the fact that they knowingly misrepresented their product.
The shed itself is OK. The cedar wood is thinner that I had anticipated. We will see how it holds up.
All in all, I'm still angry that they have intentionally not been pre-drilling/pre-assembling their product and chose not to update their website, but are still charging a premium price for their product and make no apologies for this misrepresentation. If you want to support a company that intentionally deceives their customers go ahead and buy from OLT.
12 X 12 gazebo completed
Just finished my gazebo from outdoor living today and was totally satisfied with the instruction the quality of the product. Five stars for this company !!!
12X8 Garden Studio and 10X16 Pergola, Beautiful Product
I bought both the 12X8 Garden Studio Shed and the 10X16 Pergola with retractable shade. Took two weekends to build them both, and have a few people now asking where to buy the Shed. It's a great looking product. I put it on a 12X10 existing concrete pad, which was great since it give's an extra 'step' up to the door. Since the door is on top of the flooring kit they give you. My only complaint, (still 5 Stars) is the front wall with the door flexes a little when you close the door, but some added metal ties around the door frame fixed that issue. It is 2x3 construction, which gives the interior dimensions that much more space. I also used about 6 tubes of caulking to seal the spaces between the wood wall panels, door and windows. I think a needed addition would be do add a 'gable vent' to help airflow through the shed, but maybe that would be offered on a future version of the shed. I can add one myself, but having it pre-installed would be a great idea.
The 10X16 Pergola was easy to build, and took us 6 hours, after spending 3 hours just drilling holes for the brackets in the patio concrete for the brackets... that was the hardest part. I used the recommended 2 part epoxy concrete 'glue' and it's rock solid in my patio. Other than that with 2 friends helping we had it ready to go by that evening. The retractable shade is awesome, as it easily slides on the tracks that look great on the inside of the rails.
I also want to rave about their customer service, I had to call them to clarify one of the dimensions in the user manual, and got through on the phone immediately, spoke to the guy that actually wrote the instruction manual, and they clarified it right away. All along the way the people I spoke to at OLT were super ready to help in any way and made sure I was satisfied at every turn. They followed up on the delivery and made sure I was happy the whole way.
Be prepared if you buy a shed here
We purchased a 12x8 shed and arranging delivery was a nightmare. On the Wayfair site for this specific shed, it states the product will be delivered to your front door. After I placed the order, I was told it was curbside delivery and if the delivery truck couldn’t get in the driveway, it would be dropped off in the street. Fortunately, after giving the delivery driver $100, he put it in the driveway. Upon inspection of the shed, there were numerous broken boards and the cedar siding is extremely thin. Finally, I had to purchase a replacement door and that ALSO arrived damaged because it was packaged poorly. I contacted the company and they said they would get back to me but I never got a response despite sending several emails. It’s a nice looking shed but not worth the headaches. Beware!

Very poor customer service
The initial purchase, communication and shipping were all fine.
The service after the sale was poor, with promised items for positive reviews never to ship or be delivered.
It's a shame that such a good product is tainted by inferior staff. :(. I wrote several times...never receiving a response....to finally after begging for an update given that no end date was in sight.
