A fallen giant. Went from Fasthosts to OpenSRS. How the tables have turned
I signed up with OpenSRS expecting a reliable partner for domain and SSL services. Unfortunately, they failed to meet even the most basic standards. They do not provide invoices, which creates serious accounting and legal issues, and their customer support is completely unresponsive.
My support ticket has been in "Open" status for 11 days with no reply whatsoever. Even emails sent to Tucows’ head office have been ignored.
This company is clearly not equipped to serve professional clients. Avoid at all costs.
I’ve spent the past four months trying to become a reseller with Tucows/OpenSRS, and the experience has been nothing short of frustrating. Despite multiple attempts to contact their support team, there has been no meaningful follow-up or resolution. Something as basic as connecting a credit card to get started and begin selling their products became an insurmountable hurdle.
The lack of communication and support makes it clear that they are either overwhelmed or simply not interested in new business. I’ve wasted valuable time waiting for a process that should have taken days, not months.
I’ve decided to move on to another provider — one that actually supports its partners. Based on my experience, I strongly recommend avoiding Tucows/OpenSRS. If you’re serious about launching or scaling your reseller business, look elsewhere.
We have an account with OpenSRS & we've been unable to login for 4 days! The service was ok for 10 years but now this is PATHETIC! We absolutely DO NOT recommend anyone ever uses OpenSRS as it is disgusting! avoid this company with a bargepole!
Tried contacting their support as our customers cannot email one another due to their system deferring the mails. All they do is say that I am not their customer so they will not help. Yet their customer is also impacted by this situation
Constant outages on their hosted email service. Now causing me damage to my credibility with my clients now. I will migrate to another service ASAP.
Hell... that's another job I have to do
I have worked lots of domain name registrars until today. But Tucows/OpenSRS is the worst one. Don't recommend.
What is negatives?
Very High Pricing.
Unexpected Charges.
No any Refunds almost about everything.
They designed the system that when you click on platform it automatically deducts from your balance. No any warning.
So bad customer service.
They charge almost about everything. SSL, WHOIS, LOCK or UNLOCK DOMAIN STATUS (Yes, it is true)
Actually i count more.
Are you breathing on their platform? OPENSRS
Be ready billing for it.
This is without doubt the worst support I have endured since the early days of Easyspace. the reseller control panel is counterintuitive, the support chat appears to be staffed by engineers that couldn't care less and reply in cryptic, unhelpful messages that do not go into any detail at all, and despite me being very careful to ensure they had every detail the support analyst I got was of no help at all. If I could give no stars I would, this was no support whatsoever and my recommendation would be to look elsewhere because I find it hard to imagine any company could be worse than openSRS
SSL is too expensive. Will make this 5 stars if they support Lets Encrypt SSL for free.
OMG!!!
Email User's BEWARE!!!
OPENSRS, IS ONE HORRIFIC EMAIL PROVIDER, & OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATE'S! SHAME ON OPENSRS!, FOR CONSCIOUSLY CHOOSING TO PROVIDE SUCH HORRIFIC LACK OF INTERNET & EMAIL SUPPORT SERVICE! AND SHAME TOO, ON THOSE AMERICAN INTERNET COMPANY'S USING OPENSRS, & SETTLING FOR SUCH HORRIFIC LACK OF SERVICE,
IN ACCEPTING THIS PATHETIC LACK OF SERVICE, AS THEIR US PROVIDER! FOR IT IS WE, THE USER'S WHO TRULY PAY!
INEPT & INCOMPETENT OPENSRS!, IS GETTING AWAY WITH MURDER!, KNOWING FULL WELL, THAT OPENSRS IS GETTING AWAY WITH THEIR DISGUSTING LACK OF SERVICE, TO AMERICAN-BASED INTERNET COMPANYS! AND TO THEIR OWN CANADIAN CUSTOMER'S, WITH 'CRUZIO,' IN SANTA CRUZ, CA, BEING ONLY ONE OF MANY!
Website support was non-responsive. Therefore the service is untrustworthy.
Been using OpenSRS for 10-12 years now and love the service.
Thank you John for everything.
Extended outages, amateur blocklist that blocks so many emails from major providers from reaching their destination - just look it up, there are so many complaints on professional forums about OpenSRS's blocklist, so bad that they ask their customers to move providers. Horrible customer service who cannot answer straightforward questions. Worst of all, their email service still allows insecure connections that are vulnerable to hacking, such as TLS 1.0, and they have not plans to phase it out. They don't even have a clue what it is when you reach out and ask.
This is unfortunately pretty symptomatic to OpenSRS - they don't know about their own policies and they have no plans to fix things. It is pretty obvious that OpenSRS seeks to provide the lowest possible quality service that is just bearable at the lowest possible cost. I guess you get what you pay for!
If you are a data controller/processor and use OpenSRS's Hostedemail service, you will not be able to demonstrate adequate protection of users' personal data - because OpenSRS does not even know themselves! Another example: They require secure passwords, but for more than 1 year users could create very insecure passwords such as 12345678. OpenSRS took 1 year to fix this issue!
continued extended outages. takes them a day to get thingd up again. there is no excuse for this. i,m an extra class ham radio operator and have a server on my hummer h3 and a pactor modem. i can show up at an emergency event and provide over 1ooo email accounts and run mail over the radio. we cannot use it for commercial use so i cannot use it every day. if i can do this they should be able to keep an exchange cluster running. they are not hard to keep up or maybe they have crap equipment and or unnqualified personel.
Awful, Awful, Awful, Awful, Awful. We provide hosted solutions. And continuously get blocked. We can whitelist on a domain level and they will still block our sending IP to our own inboxes. I.e. we can send the email, and still not whitelist to ensure delivery to our own mail boxes we pay for. In addition to continuous outages. They have shameful ability to ensure sending even RECEIVING emails from a trusted ip or domain.
I have used them since 99' as a small Web Hosting company. They were fine back in the day but now completely suck!
Their prices are still based on 20years ago.
Their interface hasn't changed either. I am not counting the new dashboard/interface which is brutal; no reactive design, crazy workflow that is so un-intuitive.
I have one domain here and don't know why I haven't transfered it yet?
Payment's require I pay at least $25USD worth of credit but then they gouge you with a service fee so after tax and fees it's closer to $28.
The worst part of this payment/credit is you can simple buy individual services and pay for just that. First you have to have credits, then pay for services. So you will always have to have more cash in the bank than you need to spend. SUPER SCAMMY!!!
I'm off to namecheap.com which is half the price, has live chat support, and a modern interface. TUCOWS you suck hard!!! You have lost a Canadian customer of a Canadian company. Stupid and shameful on your part.
Not impressed with them. They changed the prices of renewals overnight with NO warning. Cost me a lot of money. They had no interest in problem. Support terrible. This was a couple of years ago. Now they have 'improved' user interface which is still terrible. Would not use which is a shame as I started with them over 15 years ago. Would not recommend.
Stay away from this registrar! I am having hell trying to get my domains transferred from them due to a severe bug in their system. My host, who is a reseller, cannot even get support.
I have been using it for years and if you work in EU avoid it because they can't even make a correct invoice with VAT on it and have to waste time on ticket assistance.
I make website/hosting since 2010, dashboard and interface are the MOST LESS FRIENDLY I ever used.
On top of that, you can't even send back a negative feedback because last time I tried got this error:
