M&T bank is a low quality, outdated with technology, old fashion bank. their customer service is completely absent to assist the customer properly. their policies are so strict that forgets the etiquettes to properly serve their customers, I wish I could place -1000000000 as their ratings and I wish i had never done business with them. If you want to have a million to none service do business with them. I will never use them again.

Deserves less than 1 star. Very deceptive in their interest that they charge for a camper loan. I would rather put my camper payment on a credit card than ever use them again. Was told incorrect information about interest charges, so we are closing our account tomorrow and will never, ever use this company for anything.
CUSTOMER SERVICE NON EXISTENT
I have been dealing with customer service for 6 months. They tend to not answer my questions "when" they get back to you, its terribly slow. I have been asking and given numerous different answers on how to make extra payments on my loan. In addition my payment is due by 22 of the month, I have them set up to arrive on the 20th to their office, they did not post until the 25th then had the audacity to tell me my payment was late. We were steered to this Company by a broker. In my opinion after working with many banks. STAY CLEAR BANK SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Horrible bank
I was moving my banking to M&T from Bank of America because of issues. However, after three weeks of having this account, I haven’t gotten a debit card. I haven’t gotten a credit card and I still can’t login to do online bill pay. This is just disgusting. I wanted to deal locally and I’m closing the account today. We consumers don’t have time to put up with this bullshit and that’s exactly what it is. They have not a clue what they’re doing so I guess I’ll just have to stay with Bank of America. Go pay for stadium licensing.
M & T Bank Stamford *****
I needed to open a business account quickly. I made an appointment to see Julie Howard 20 minutes after I made the call. An hour later I had a business checking and a business savings account and was promised all documentation within five business days.
Julie was very efficient, knew how to process all the documents I had to bring and I had an open account 1 hour later.
Speed was of the essence since I was expecting a wire from overseas and needed all the account numbers etc.
First rate, professional service from Julie Howard at Manufacturers and Traders Bank, High Ridge Road, Stamford.

Had this bank for almost 3 years with a camper loan. NEVER get a camper loan ever!! Camper loans have high interest we knew this but every single loan we have ever had we could pay it down, not with M&T. they will just move the payment down the road. oh and if you decide to skip till that month. from the date of your last payment they will just rack up all those days you skipped a payment with interest even though they told you, you could skip. yes in the fine print but not all of use understood would that meant. So all those extra payments all those extra monthly payments. didn't do nothing! Customer service will tell you that you can not pay principal only at all period!!. You'll never be able to pay off this loan early unless you come in with full cash and even then im sure in the fine print somewhere they will say they will still get the interest of that loan even though you paid it off

Terrible I just cannot believe they sent me a letter that they will closed my account, when I questioned why, they said they cannot tell me.
I am very happy they did it anyway I have a better experience and service with my new bank

I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with my recent experience with M&T Bank. I opened a checking account on their website on October 11th and set up a direct deposit for it. The first direct deposit was scheduled for October 16th.
On October 16th, I received an email from M&T stating that my account had been closed, with no further explanation. I called customer service to inquire about this, but the agent was unable to provide any details and advised me to visit a branch for more information.
I drove to the branch, where the bank clerks spent a considerable amount of time investigating my account but could not find any notes explaining why it had been closed. They promised to call me back with more information, but they never did.
A week later, I called customer service again to follow up. The agent said she would check with the local branch but instead transferred me to the branch line, which promptly went to voicemail. The greeting stated that for expedited service, I should call the customer service line.
This is by far the worst experience I have ever had with a bank. I urge you to consider carefully before opening an account with M&T Bank unless you are prepared to waste your time in an inexcusable manner.
If anyone from M&T is reading this, please do not respond with the standard reply asking me to call the customer service line. I have already done so multiple times without resolution.
Awful.
Awful.. just awful. Apparently there is a limit on the amount of transactions you can make with your debit card irrespective of your balance. Meaning they will restrict access to your account even if you have money in it. But it gets better.... Not only did I i) NOT set this limit; but ii) They WILL NOT TELL ME WHAT THAT LIMIT IS. Now I know what you are thinking, that CAN NOT be right. Well, it is in fact 100% accurate.
But it only gets better... When you call the Fraud department and answer 7 absurd questions, make sure NOT TO HAVE A TONE in your voice, because apparently that is grounds for terminating the call.
So, despite having money in my account, not only did I have my card restricted for some reason I am not privy to, but then I was denied service for being upset about it.
I dont know who runs this joke of a financial institution, but it is an absolute disgrace... from start to finish.

Customer service is a joke! Secure messages in the account are not answered in 8 days. When you call in, you will spend 10 minutes pushing buttons and listening to recordings. No one will ever call you, even if you ask them to speak to you about a situation.
I can't wait to move my mortgage to a local bank rather that a big bank with no customer service. Sad!

TERRIBLE (what they call customer service) 3 weeks and no call back from anyone in records. Call center is useless. Have spent over 4 hours being tossed back and forth with everyone passing the buck. Still no resolution. Will be filing a complaint with Banking Commission. DO NOT USE!

9/26 I opened my account, and nothing looks wrong. There was no hint I needed further action or documents.
9/29 I received a DocuSign email, filled it and scanned my ID online.
10/2 I still cannot fund the account, all my deposits have been reversed. M&T csr says "it's still under review that's why it's frozen. You can wait until Thursday to call back."
10/4 My two savings accounts that I used to fund the M&T account both got reversed and frozen (that I have to call each to resolve it). I called M&T again asking if I could close the account and delete everything I had with them. Their rep told me I cannot do anything unless I go to a branch. The closest branch is 30min away and only open 9 to 4.
10/7 Called 3rd time. After 3 phone holds and transfers to 'another department', they told me the account ban has been lifted on 10/5 but I have to "call another fraud department to lift the online client ban". Here we go again on the 4th call.
M&T is the biggest joke I ever knew.

Long-time customer: Shame on M&T Bank for having no option to add account notifications for their BANK accounts and only having the option to do this for ZELLE. I received a bank overdraft fee because I forgot to transfer funds in a timely manner. My bad. But I was too busy to look to see why I had not received a low balance notification etc as I ALWAYS set these up for ALL of my accounts including credit cards etc. I was surprised and severely disappointed to find that you cannot set up any notifications for business checking accounts AT ALL. Only Zelle transactions which I do very infrequently. This is clearly a money-grab to ensure more overdraft fees and other fees. SHAME on you M&T!

After 12 years of service if I could give a zero today absolutely it would be a zero. The most disappointing customer service I have ever received Run as fast as you can because your money is their money, Your checking account gets hacked. Say goodbye cuz they're going to do it too.

What an awful bank. Have had nothing but problems and for what? Security feature loves to lock me out 24/7 and the fact that they made me wait an extra day after the holiday for my funds to be available to me… nope. Don’t sign yourself up to here everyone.

Purchased RV through Camping world.Never again.Credit score 826 and they told me my interest rate would run around 2-3%. It's 4.99...The bank Twice I have seen the loan numbers balances manipulated.balance. Recently 19k to 20K. I am online almost daily...I print and screenshot everything.They do not break down some of the loans after payments are made.They wait for following month and post two at a time. I have message them twice on this issue.I do not trust this bank and will never use them again.I will hire an accountant to go over every invoice. I have everyone of them
Should be criminal what they put customers through
Don’t even consider M&T bank. You absolutely CANNOT trust them with your money! I attempted to send a Zelle payment (an app that M&T gave me with my account. It’s connected right to my account so it wasn’t anything I had to download. They blocked the payment then put a fraud hold on my account. This was 4 days ago now. I called the day they placed the hold and was 1st told that I had “a legal hold” I am a paralegal and the true meaning of a legal hold would be a freeze of the account by a creditor you owe money to. I knew that wasn’t possible as they would have to have a judgment and I don’t even have any accounts in collections. They refused to tell me who the hold was from or give me any further info. I had just received my tax refund of 6k 2 days prior to this so I had a literal panic attack. I was blocked from my online banking and branches were closed. I called again after I noticed an email from the fraud department regarding my Zelle. A fraud hold made much more sense to me. The 2nd agent I spoke with confirmed it was infact a fraud hold not a legal hold. I confirmed the transaction was me. I was told they can’t remove the block as they have to come their “investigation” I’ve been told the same absurd story for the past 4 days. What investigation?!! They denied my Zelle, I called and verified there is no fraud, any other bank end of story. Not M&T! 4 days, no access to my funds, I advised my daughter needs her asthma medication and I need the hold off and they refused. My car insurance has been canceled as I couldn’t pay it due to this, they have not reached out to me one time and they let this go into and all through the weekend so I couldn’t go to a branch. To say I’m irate at this point would be severely understated. I am finally going today to speak to the branch manager and I will absolutely not leave without every cent of my money and my account closed. This to me is harassment. It has caused extreme anxiety, stress and financial hardship. All for using an app they gave me. Verifying it was me should have been all they needed to release the hold. I’ve received no answers or details from anyone. Worst bank in existence!
Update-went to branch today, I was told they don’t know why my account is on hold and it’s probably the Zelle but they cannot release my funds, they don’t have an answer, they don’t know when they will have an answer and they don’t know when my money will be released. I am disgusted these companies get away with this! It’s a simple fraud hold and they are now on day 5 holding thousands of my dollar and “they don’t know when I’ll get it”??!! Like I said, CRIMINALS
