My husband and I recently completed the 5-day Sacred Valley & Lares Adventure with optional hike from KM104. We thoroughly enjoyed this itinerary and all of the many options it presented. The final day's hike was no joke but reaching the Sun Gate and seeing Machu Picchu for the first time is something we'll never forget. The cultural excursions were well thought out examples of Peruvian culture and not touristy at all. The balance between the cultural exploration options and hiking was perfect which in retrospect made us satisfied that we did not just do the 4-day Inca Trail hike. There was a lot more to this program and the value is incredible. Even the hikes had more than one choice. On the early hikes (before Machu Picchu), we didn’t see another person along the way – just llamas and alpacas! The car was very comfortable. The Lodges (especially Mountain Lodges places) were all great. I would have loved to have spent more time there which you can do on the 7 day option. Finally, our guide Yarik was great. Very friendly and knowledgeable on everything from Incan history to flora and fauna along the hikes. For those considering when to go, late April worked out well for us. Rainy season was over (though we did have rain one day). Everything was still lush and green and the temperature was great for hiking (50’s – 60’’s F).

We had an incredible trekking experience with MLP! Our guides, Admil & Bettio, were patient and knowledgeable. This is a physically challenging adventure and we loved every minute of it. They give you what they advertise.

Wonderful in Every Way!
From the moment we arrived at the airport, Mountain Lodges of Peru took care of everything. The whole experience was better than we could have imagined. The hikes were incredible and each experience felt truly unique. Each day was thoughtfully planned out including transportation, food, snacks, cultural experiences- with time time built in to relax in addition to explore!

Mountain Lodges of Peru was one of the best trips for my family of 3. Salkantay trek was the perfect tour to include walking, sightseeing and culture. The lodges were the best places to end each day's hard work - friendly and great service, good food, comfortable bed and bathrooms with hot water showers, warm water jacuzzi to soothe the muscles at almost all the lodges, and all with the best views.

MLP was fantastic in all aspects. They took care of everything leaving us to enjoy the hiking and nature. The lodges were well appointed and comfortable. The staff was amazing and all went above and beyond to make you feel at home. Trip of a lifetime!

This was our best trip yet! Guides, accommodations, food, archaeology and hiking - all outstanding. We hope to return to Peru in the coming years.

Just returned from a memorable 3-week excursion to Peru, hiking a combination of parts of the Salkantay trail and the Sacred Valley, and then continuing on with a further 3-day extension to do the Lake Titicaca-Suasi Island circuit, all organized by Mountain Lodges of Peru (MLP). I considered it a highly successful outing, even though several major events occurred that impacted our plans: (1) just before we launched on our trek, a catastrophic debris flow occurred in the Salkantay-Santa Teresa river valley area that wiped out large parts of the trail we’d intended to hike; and (2) just as we were planning to depart Peru after our hikes were completed, the Peruvian government announced a state of emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic and closed all land, sea and air borders to the country, which necessitated that we remain in Peru for almost a week longer than planned. In spite of all this, we very much enjoyed our time in the country – and especially meeting so many wonderful Peruvian people – and thought that MLP did a great job of developing an outstanding program for us, even if it wasn’t what we (and they) had originally planned to do.

The Salkantay-Sacred Valley hikes were magnificent, and allowed us to experience backcountry Peru at its finest. As advertised, the scenery was epic, lodges were great (we stayed at the Soray/Salkantay and Lamay lodges), food was quite good, staff and guides were awesome – and the revised itinerary MLP developed for us was both challenging (in a good way!) and rewarding. Special mention should be made of our 2 guides on this trek, Fernando and Saul; both were great folks, and helped to make the experience memorable. The head guide (Fernando) was exceptionally knowledgeable about both the history and culture of the area and its people, and was a great leader for our group. This part of our excursion culminated in visits to Machu Picchu, which was completely amazing in itself. While we visited other impressive sites while in Peru (Sacsayhuaman, Chinchero, Ollantaytambo, to name a few), Machu Picchu was the most impressive to me. While there, we hiked to the Inca bridge, part way to the Sun Gate (a landslide had blocked part of this trail as well), and most impressive of all, up Huayna Picchu. All were amazing adventures, and MLP did a great job of guiding and taking care of us.

The Lake Titicaca extension was also quite scenic and the hotels selected were very good (Suasi Island especially), but MLP seemed to have outsourced this part of the trip to other providers, so while each of the guides along the way was good individually, there seemed to be a bit of a disconnect at the end of the each day such that we weren’t quite sure of the arrangements for the next day – I had to contact MLP every evening to find out who would be meeting us and when. All worked out in the end, hotels and staff and transportation arrangements were all great, but it would have been nice if the plan had been clearer. The scenery of the area around the lake (the Altiplano) and the lake itself were beautiful, and our visits to the communities on the various islands we stopped at (including the Uros communities on the floating reed islands in the lake) were amazing.

At the end of our trek, we flew to Lima for a quick (planned 2-day) visit before our return to the USA, and were then caught by the announcement of the border closure by the government of Peru. MLP again helped out here, even though their part of our visit had been completed; I contacted MLP’s emergency support person (Rosa), who was most helpful in trying to help facilitate our exit from the country; while I was ultimately able to find a way out of the country using another source, it was great being able to talk to someone who I felt was really trying to help us.

Overall, it was a great adventure, one we’ll never forget – and we appreciate all the folks in MLP who made it so memorable.

My experience with Mountain Lodges of Peru even right from the beginning was absolute magic!
Everything was so wonderful and well thought of, every little detail! (especially the surprise hot water bottles before bed)
The day hikes were beautiful, the scenery from every point whether at the lodge, in our room, in the Jacuzzi,on a hike etc was breathtaking!!
The food was so fresh and delicious even when hiking!!
Our guide Bruno was so lovely, helpful, caring and full of so much knowledge.
All the staff at mountain lodges of Peru were also so lovely and welcoming!
Big call but I definitely had the best massage I've ever had!
If given the chance I would absolutely love to do this dream all over again!

We absolutely loved our Salkantay Trek with Mountain Lodges of Peru.

This was an excellent vacation from start to finish. There were some last minute changes in our itinerary due to the mud slide but it was all handled so professionally. We were actually able to see and do things that we wouldn't have been able to on our original tour. Everyone was very welcoming and kind throughout our entire journey and the lodges were all spectacular. Pepe was a great guide who kept our health and comfort at the top of his priority list. I had a fantastic time and would highly recommend Mountain Lodges to all who ask! Thank you for the trip of a lifetime!

A very well done and thank you to Mountain Lodges of Peru for allowing us to reschedule our planned LARES trip scheduled for 03 Apr 2020 to roughly same time in 2021 due to Covid. The company and staff were prompt and efficient and acted with integrity throughout. The four of us look forward to our trip next year.

Everything was fantastic. I don't know how this could be made better it was perfect.The guides excellent. Wow it was that good.

This trip far exceeded my expectations, the lodges were modern, warm and comfortable. The food was fresh, plentiful and well presented. We enjoyed the hot tub after each days hike and an added bonus of finding our boots cleaned each morning was amazing.
Our guides Eddie and Yuri provided history, detail of each days trek, informative of hazards, and kept our group safe in spite of the rough terrain, strenuous steep climb and lack of oxygen. Your advise to take a couple of days to acclimatize to the altitude should be heeded, it is amazing how difficult the climb is even for those of us who trained extensively. All in all it was an enjoyable adventure that we would highly recommend. Finally, finishing the trek at age 69 gave me a great sense of accomplishment and pride.

This was fantastic holiday with an amazing team of guides; the lodges were spotless and amazingly luxurious given their locations; the food was great and plentiful. I would use these guys again in a heartbeat.

The entire trek was well organised. The guides were fantastic, very knowledgeable and caring. The lodges were amazing - beautiful local decos for room furnishings, comfortable beds and excellent meals using all local ingredients! The staff at the lodge were very helpful and hospitable and made us feel welcome. They took care of our needs e.g. cleaned our muddy trekking boots on arrival to ensuring they were ready for us in the morning. We had lots of memorable moments and highly recommend Mountain Lodges of Peru!
