I went today to Madison Reed
at Canoga canyon Blvd to dye my root and came back home with my SCALP BURNED.During the shampoo the water was heating and cooling nonstop to the point that ended burning my scalp.When I asked about it (in the beginning)I was informed that the problem with the water heather was there for months but although many plumbers came to check nobody fixed the problem.HOW CAN A COMPANY RISK TO HURT THEIR CLIENTS??I got home in pain and I am at risk to loose my hair at the burned area.
It is clear that Madison Reed is aware about this problem and is risking to hurt people.
I will have to schedule a dermatologist to take care of this on top of the pain and the discomfort I am feeling right now.I am very disappointed and sad.I choose a company that promises respect to your health and to the environment and look what I get!

I haven't been too impressed with the photos or reviews but thought if it was genuinely healthier, I would give it a shot. I have read that there are all sorts of lawsuits surrounding the use ethanolamine and false marketing of this product as a safe alternative. Not sure what the company Representatives will have to say about the safety of their product, ethanolamine and I got any of the pending litigation regarding damage to hair and scalp
On another note, I wish there was a way to opt out of podcasts advertising of this product.

It’s taken 3 weeks and we still don’t have the product. No explanation or update the company. Suggest they are over selling their stock or do not have a good supply chain. No disclaimers on their website concerning the validity claims of their chemical switcharoo. Currently under class action lawsuit. I was looking into the claims and made in the lawsuit and Madison Reed response. I was sicken-by Madison Reed response. The chief complaint is hair loss. Along with other scary things. In an environment where the FDA cannot be trusted. Why would a company advertise their products are safe when they’re NOT. The 3 chemicals they replaced have more issues than the ones replaced. furthermore the chemicals in question are not regulated or studied well. I will be returning the unopened product when it arrives if and when. Also if not refunded I will be disputing the charge. My wife was looking for a safe alternative to hair color. Folks keep looking this company’s product is no better.

I have been going to Madison Reed almost 1year! I have only had fantastic experiences since this! There has been a LOT of turnover in the location I go to! So I understand todays day it is hard to train and keep people! However when a client makes a simple complaint about NOT SETTING A TIMER for your hair color! Your hair gets over processed That is a simple fix… however my subscription got cancelled! I did get a refund for the monthly subscription… but my subscription got canceled because I made a suggestion/complaint about something that Madison Reed needs to fix…. TRAINING! As this is the only thing I suggested! Shame on you Madison Reed! I am so disappointed in the way this situation was handled! I only told my story because I think you have a great company and want you to succeed! Canceling my subscription does not help your company or what it stands for! I am sad to see how you handled this !

No help on phone - Already promised an email with discount and free shipping on NEXT order - but no email arrived, and what next order???? the people are generally very rude on the phone, refuse to escalate call, they yell at you! talk over you, are totally indifferent - Im done

Almost impossible to access a live person to answer basic questions. They don’t answer phone often at local color bars; the 866 number leads to no answer hold patterns. I give up. Would like to use the products but I find that basic questions can not be answered as there is no one to speak to. Disappointing.

Absolutely the worst hair stylists I have ever been to..not trained properly. Damaged my hair and made a mess with the color. I had to goto another salon and they were shocked. The only good thing about that place is the marketing. They hair stylists can not even blow dry hair properly. When you should them a picture they still cannot get it right. Don't go there, its just not worth it. I would rather pay more and get the talent and skill sets.

First time client here - went to the hair color bar, discussed the color I wanted (and what she recommended) and started the process. My natural hair color is dark ash blond and I normally have my hair foiled with light blond highlights, however, I was willing to try a permanent root color. The girl who was washing my hair knew as soon as she rinsed my hair that the color was wrong and asked if I could stay for a few extra minutes to add some toner. As soon as I took the towel off my head, it revealed a shocking bright orange at the roots and my blond highlights were now a greenish gray! The girls knew the color was VERY wrong so they immediately offered to do a color correction and foil at no charge so I went in the following evening. The color correction & foil made my hair look slightly better than the previous color but my roots are now a strawberry blond and the blond parts of my hair are now green. GREEN!!! I have now had my hair colored back to back within a 24-hr period and I can't believe I have to get my hair color corrected a 3rd time just to get my hair even remotely close to its natural color again!! The girls were friendly but I am very disappointed in my hair color. I'm afraid I will never go back here again and will certainly warn others that plan to visit.

I have been subscribing for over a year and I like the coloring but I do not receiving product consistently. Shipping takes weeks and you cannot track the package. Never know when it will show up! My roots look terrible by the time I actually get it. Very annoying!

I am so disappointed with the results of my ballayage today The 1 star is based on today's experience only. I do purchase my color from MR and Im happy with the results, but I wanted to add some pizazz to my hair and wanted a professional look. I showed a picture of what I wanted, and I was so excited to get it done. I’d been wanting for a while to have this done….and the results were disappointing. There was barely a contrast, only the tips at the bottom of my (long) hair was noticeable. unfortunately I’m unable to post a picture of my before and after. I did let the colorist know that I was disappointed with the contrast, she did give me the option to come back and have some more highlights put in, but I unfortunately don’t have much faith in their technique.

I have been going to Madison Reed Flatiron salon since May 2022. My overall experience with hair coloring has been positive. My only complaint is how the salon doesn’t have a decent waiting area for client’s guests. My husband accompanied me to my recent appointment and I asked the receptionist if he can sit in the client waiting area. The seats provided are much more comfortable than the only one high chair by the entrance. Within minutes he was told to move. When I saw what happened I was ready to get up and tell the colorist I wanted to go. I felt it wasn’t her fault and proceeded with my appointment. The manager walked by a gave me the rudest side eye. She had her employees do her dirty work and couldn’t even approach me to explain why my husband was moved. I find it unfair if you bring a friend ( of which one has become a client just by watching the services provided) or spouse with you and they are treated so rudely. This Madison Reed should have some type of comfortable seating area for clients who bring guests along for the experience. FYI it was raining that day and wasn’t so busy. Plus not even one client sat in the seats that my husband was removed from and the reason I was told because of coloring process going on. To me that was total nonsense. I go this salon because it is a convenient location and I have nothing but good things to say about the colorists.

I went online and bought a hair dye. It claims cover gray's. It did not I contacted Madison Reed and they said to send them a photo of myself and they will tell me what to get u did and they recommend a color. Second time went on Amazon and bought it. They said to send them receipts and they will reimburse me. The hair color their colorist said would be perfect did not cover my white. Then they gave me another color they said they would send me. Never did so two fair dyes didn't touch the gray- promised me refunds and a new color their colorist said us perfect( the one they recommended before was supposed to be perfect ?) When I emailed them to asked about the refunds and the new color they were supposed to send. No respond. This is now going on 3 months?

I have been using this product for over a year and since then dealing with hair loss, breakage and thinning. I really thought it was stress or hormone related and been dealing with this the whole time. I wouldn’t have thought it was the “all natural” hair color.
The last time I used it there was literally hair breakage at the top of my forehead. Finally I googled and found a law suit against them for all the reasons I listed and if I could join the suit I would. I feel so betrayed and disappointed with this company. I’ve spent thousands of dollars on doctors and hair supplement and products. This company is trash.

Two stars because the product is quite great. But it is overpriced, and their customer service is comically bad. I mean embarrassingly so. I was a customer for years before I finally gave up, after trying multiple times through every means possible to contact them to try to give them the opportunity to make things right with me. In the most recent time, I called, was put on hold for 20 minutes, then spoke to someone who was definitely prioritizing the push of another sale onto me rather than addressing my question. When it was clear I insisted on an answer first before allowing another sale, she put me on another hold, where I waited for another 20 minutes before being disconnected. That was the final straw.
What exactly was my question, you might want to know? Glad you asked. I was interested in the root dye product, which I saw was available in a kit with two applications (great), but with a reusable bowl and brush - great for those those who need these tools, but I already own these. So I called to see if I could order this product without these tools. The representative with whom I spoke – after trying to get my credit card information – told me that she didn’t know. I said, “I’m sure there’s a way - I mean, otherwise, every other time your customers need to touch up their roots, they have to purchase another bowl and another brush that they don’t need. That would be silly…and incredibly wasteful.” I was very nice about it - I worked in customer service for many years. She put me on hold, kept me there for 20 minutes, and then I was disconnected.
While I’m here, let me go ahead and tell you about the experience that I had visiting one of their brick & mortar salons. A new one opened in Chicago while I lived there, and I was excited to make an appointment. I booked an appointment for a single-process color and blow dry. Very standard salon service. I will skip all of the weird awkwardness that I had while checking in and getting my hair actually dyed (the maybe 20 yo “salon manager,” as she keep calling herself, kept asking me multiple uncomfortable questions about my ethnicity and skin tone) and skip to the part where she then informed me that there was no one available to blow dry my hair (which she told me after she had finished dyeing it). The person who had originally been scheduled to blow dry my hair couldn’t do it, because “it hurts her arms too much.” Yes, you read that right. She could not blow dry my hair because it hurt her arms too much, and the gal who handled my color couldn’t do it because she had another appointment. And she had appointments for the rest the day so I couldn’t even wait to have her do it later (believe me, I asked). This was February in Chicago. They wanted to send me out into -30° weather with a head of wet hair. I asked if they would allow me to use one of their blow dryers so that I could perform this myself. They clearly did not want to. I had been so nice, so understanding, and so calm up until this moment (again - having worked in the service industry for many years myself). But I then had to go through the incredibly uncomfortable and unfortunate experience of getting very firm, pointing out the weather, the fact that I was parked blocks away, and that my hair would very likely freeze to my head if I tried to walk outside in those temperatures. They finally agreed to allow me to use one of their blow dryers to blow dry my completely wet head of hair.
What I have outlined here are merely the last two experience I had with this company, and this retelling has been quite draining enough. There were multiple previous experiences, including overcharging, double orders, orders in which I received two shampoos or two conditioners rather than one of each in my box, the wrong color, no gloves…the list goes on.
EDIT: This review hasn’t even posted yet and I learn, from additional research, that the company is currently pending a class action lawsuit due to customers experiencing hair loss from the products. I experienced this as well! I thought it was just about age. WOW.

First of all, the cleanliness is horrible. They mark their brushes, clips, etc as clean but I have never seen them clean them after customers. The floor is filthy and looks like they never mop it. It’s impossible to reach anyone by phone if needed to call last minute to change an appointment or ask questions. They take a before and after pictures and it’s very clear that they have a different filter for the before pictures to make it look bad. Filthy bathroom. The sink leaked multiple times all over where customers began helping mop.The colorists are not very experienced and I started noticing that my hair fall out so much while brushing after their wash and color. My hair went from bad to worst. I have been going there for over two years . Their membership increased without notice. Finally realized that their color is negatively impacting the health of my hair.

I have been using madison reed products throughout the pandemic. Pleased with results and quality. What I am not pleased with is the inability to speak with someone or even correspond directly with MR. I was sent the incorrect root perfection color. over a month ago. I am a redhead and the color I got was 3N Corato black. The phone call waits are ridiculously long, and a simple exchange takes way too long- or theres never a return call. frustrating customer service.

Do not use! It apparently frequently causes hair loss and scalp irritation. There is currently a class action suit against Madison Reed.
For me, it started with scalp itchiness. Then my hair started falling out in fistfuls, suddenly and rapidly. It’s been many weeks and my hair is still falling out and my scalp still itches. Also, my hair has gone from shiny and silky to brittle and dead looking.
When I looked up Madison Reed hair loss complaints online, I found similar stories and a class action suit.
Since they describe their product as a “natural” alternative to harsh hair dye, I unfortunately had my guard down about this highly toxic product.
When confronted with complaints, Madison Reed tells women their hair is falling out due to other factors, rather than their caustic ingredients. It is easy to gaslight women with gray hair and say it must be age, hormones, thyroid, etc, and continue to poison people for profit. Nice strategy, there.
Apart from this, the color is completely off. I have a six inch black stripe of over dyed hair that worn go away, no matter how many stripping treatments and shampoos Madison Reed suggests I use. No, I won’t be doing the balayage they suggest to fix the problem, I will be cutting my losses not digging myself deeper.
Here’s to hoping my hair grows back eventually and I do not get sick from this vile product.

I starting using Madison Reed in March 2022 at the salon. I just wanted to cover greys and my hair is light ash brown, they dyed my hair orange. April 2022 I went in the salon to have hair fixed and was dyed one shade darker but turned my hair a brown with brassy red and told me ash could never be done with hair color so I just stuck with this sienna brown and starting using it monthly. Fast forward to October 2022, right after dying my hair it starts falling out in clumps while I'm rinsing the dye. It's almost 2023 and my hair falls out every time I wash it. I hope my hair starts growing back. I started using a professional dye I purchased online called farmavita life color plus shade 5.1 light ash brown and mixing it with developer myself and what do you know, I have full grey coverage and ash brown hair without red and orange brassy tones for less than $5 a month.
