This software has saved me from Windows disasters several times in the past few years. When I inquired about transfering an offered discount from one license to another, Alex in Support was particularly helpful and handled the whole thing politely and professionally. I'm a fan of Macrium and this product.

Macrium software has been outstanding. It provides a wide variety of options that allow you to configure your backups in a way that suits your needs. I have had to use the tech support once (my fault) and the response has been outstanding. Not necessarily the cheapest but heads and shoulders above the rest in performance, security, and support.

Paid for a lifetime licence for Macrium reflect 8, been advise to update to Macrium reflect X etc. What happened to the Life Time Licence, another con?

I had problems with an SSD starting to fail and wanted to image my OS (Win11) onto a new M2 drive. I was promised a trial of Macrium could do this by Chatgbt and also Google search.

Marcrium's install process and trial did not work, and yes I tried the home user download. I tried 3 different email addresses, a BT, Google and Outlook address none received the trial key to active or would let me past the trial key part of the installer. I logged back into their website was given a trial key on there to copy and paste, which weirdly was the key generated in the installer. So I guess all three of my email providers are not accepted! So I gave up!

Now I'm getting spam emails daily for my trouble.

In the end I used a 20 year old copy of Symantec Ghost via a USB stick and did a disk to disk image - That imaged my drive across in under 20 minutes no sign up processes, no spam email and no confusing website demanding money. PC rebooted fine and I'm now using it again with a much bigger M2 drive.

What happened to simple disk imaging and cloning software?

I've been a Macrium customer for ages. I tested others but Macrium always won. In the past two years, my network grew machines. Alex G. was incredibly helpful in managing and adjusting my contract to grow with it. I was very impressed with a company that was eager to work with me and keep me a satisfied customer. (I have labelled Alex "The Fixer".)
Oh, and by the way, having my system backed up with Macrium has saved my butt a FEW times. GET IT!

Great software, saved my bacon on numerous occasions after being a victim of fraud identity. Restore function was quick and easy to perform. File backup and restore a bit tricky at times.

I was having trouble finding the option to purchase multiple licenses in addition to the license I already had. Alex G cheerfully and helpfully pointed me in the right direction, to a limited-time deal on the website (trick: don't login to purchase additional licenses; click Buy and specify multiple licenses, THEN login).

Macrium has always had strong customer support. Especially important with a complicated array of offerings. My latest experience was how to deal with six licenses based on taking advantage of special offers. One of their reps, Alex, refused to close the support ticket until he was sure I was properly set up. Above and beyond.

Been with Macrium for over a year, the software and support (Luka) are great. I just did my renewal for their home product for another year. Highly recommended them

Customer service is fast and helpful;

Poor policies: I have 3 licenses but am not allowed to cancel only one.

Customer service sends canned how-to responses rather than offering to do it for me.

Alex was the best! He took care of aligning all my renewals and did it professionally and most efficiently.

Luka was terrific in helping me upgrade Macrium Reflect Home for a new computer. Really outstanding service and fast response!! I've been using Reflect for years (used Norton Ghost in the old days on dos, Windows98 etc) and have always had complete peace of mind with my backups and ability to restore images with Reflect. Great company, the product is deep yet easy to use, and Luka was invaluable in making the upgrade go smoothly for me. Thanks!

Bin fast auf das "grosszügige" Angebot zum Upgrade von Home v8.1 auf Reflect X Home reingefallen.

Bei der v8.1 kriegt man einfach keine Updates mehr wenn das Subscription Modell abgelaufen ist, man kann trotzdem noch Backups machen und Backups wiederherstellen, faires Angebot also.

Bei Reflect X Home ist dies nicht mehr der Fall. Sobald das Subscription Modell abgelaufen ist, dann kann man nur noch alte Backups wiederherstellen, neue Backups sind dann nicht mehr möglich.

Diese Art von Abo-Modell Praxis geht für mich gar nicht, bin schwer von dieser Software-Firma enttäuscht. Früher habe ich Macrium allen wärmstens empfehlen können, nun warne ich alle sich von dieser Software-Firma fern zu halten.

If you want a backup solution that drives you absolutely bonkers, this is the one. Have tried it over and over thinking I can consistent get incremental backups of my massive number of image files but NOOOOOOO!
Why do I keep paying for this app. Definition of insanity.
Tried again today and get another error that it doesn't like my backup drive letter even though the definition is there. Have to do more google research AGAIN to try to understand it.
So I go to file by file backup instead and Hope to return to macrium for more headaches.

You've probably heard that if you have never tested your backup, then you don't have one.

For the third time now an MS update crippled my PC (the latest was the Feb 10, 2026)

And for the third time Macrium reflect brought my system back from catastrophe.

I have been a subscriber for a few years, and while never actually "testing" a backup, the three times I've needed to use it have been flawless.

I have accidentally deleted an important file. All I needed to do was use Macrium to get the file from a differential and restore it to the current session.

Take the time to set it up right with scheduling, rules, and a Rescue USB and you will NOT regret it.

The email servers take ages to send stuff.
I've been stuck trying to setup an account.
Stupid Activate email is confusing 2 links..
Just put activate account link
2FA - again ages.
Tried contacting company to get support. Need account to proceed.
You need to overhaul your email server capacity
Wasted 20 min trying to set account up.

The Software Itself
Macrium Reflect is undeniably powerful backup software. It offers comprehensive imaging capabilities and, once configured correctly, performs its core function reliably. However, getting to that point is another matter entirely.

The interface is complicated and far from intuitive. Navigation feels cluttered, and even routine tasks require users to wade through technical terminology and nested menus. This is software built by engineers for engineers, and it shows. Macrium feels very much like a technology-led company rather than a customer-led one. The result is a product that is technically competent but demands a technical mindset to operate effectively. For average users simply wanting to protect their data, the learning curve is unnecessarily steep. This lack of customer centricity extends beyond the software itself and permeates the entire experience of dealing with the company.

Licensing: A Betrayal of Trust
When I purchased Macrium Reflect, I believed I was buying a perpetual licence. What I actually received, it seems, was a temporary arrangement that would later be dismantled through rebranding and a shift to subscription pricing. By changing the product name and restructuring the licensing model, Macrium has effectively invalidated what many customers understood to be lifetime purchases.

The subscription fees themselves are difficult to justify. Even the "discounted" rates offered to existing customers feel disproportionate for software that is not substantially evolving with major new features. If a company wishes to move away from perpetual licensing, it should apply that change to new customers only. Those of us who paid for what we believed was ongoing access should have had our agreements honoured. Instead, loyal customers have been treated as a revenue stream to be squeezed.

Support: Adding Insult to Injury
My recent experience with Macrium's support team cemented my decision to look elsewhere. I contacted them to ask how I should migrate my licence to a new PC I was planning to set up in a few weeks. Rather than answering my question, they immediately deactivated the licence on my current machine, leaving me unable to perform a final backup before the transition.

When I explained that they had misread my request and caused unnecessary hassle, my complaint was ignored. The ticket was simply closed without acknowledgement or apology.

Conclusion
Macrium Reflect demonstrates what happens when technical excellence is not matched by customer focus. Between the unintuitive interface, the licensing changes that feel like a breach of faith, and support that borders on dismissive, I am now actively seeking alternatives. A powerful tool means little if the company behind it has lost sight of the people using it.
