From a nervous start I found all of the instructions, the videos and the post session feedback to be really useful.
The videos are really good and take you though each step at a pace that is easy to follow all of the instructions, especially helpful in the first few sessions.
I found it really good fun, had the family asking what they were going to eat next.
I also like the alternative suggestion, such as a different fruit to use or meat to substitute or dietary changes.
Very Basic Course
I know it was a basic course, but a session could have been put on regarding knife skills and the five senses for plant based foods (unami, salty, bitter, sweet & sour) More education around nutritional values and substitutes etc

This was a great experience and was done at a good pace. It is good being able to cook when your calendar permits and to do it in the comfort of one’s own home is an added bonus.
Would thoroughly recommend this course.
A great course that could be even better.
I recently completed the Online Essential Professional Course and overall found it to be a well-structured and worthwhile programme.
The app was extremely easy to navigate and the units were presented in a clear, logical way. Each lesson was straightforward to follow, which made the learning experience enjoyable and accessible. One of the biggest strengths of the course is the focus on transferable cooking skills. The techniques build progressively, allowing students to gain a solid foundation that can be applied to many different dishes and cooking styles.
The course also offers a very good selection of recipes, many of which are interesting and useful for building confidence in the kitchen.
However, there are several areas where the course could be improved, particularly considering the significant cost of enrolment.
Most recipes are designed for four portions, which is not always practical for those living alone or cooking for two. It would have been helpful if the course had provided guidance on scaling recipes or making use of excess food, as this is a common issue when following professional-style recipes at home.
Another disappointment was the certificate. Given the reputation of the school and the price of the course, the certificate felt surprisingly basic and rather underwhelming. A higher quality finish, such as an embossed seal or more substantial presentation, would make it feel more in keeping with the prestige of the course.
Finally, it would have been extremely useful if the course had included at least a rough indication of ingredient costs. This would help students plan more effectively and understand the practical cost of preparing the dishes being taught.
In summary, the course delivers strong foundational cooking skills and is presented in a very user-friendly way. However, small improvements in practical guidance and presentation would significantly enhance the overall experience and better reflect the premium price of the course.

Brilliant course!! The video instructions are so clear to understand. Having the weekly plan was great as you can pick a day that suits you best. The tutors are really encouraging, even when your dish may not have gone to plan!! Our group had Angela and she was lovely!!

Excellent cookery course for Duke of Edinburgh bronze. My son loved it and the recipes were delicious.

The videos were clear and the recipes were a good mix of sweet and savoury. Feedback was clear and constructive. My only piece of advice would be to keep a copy of your outcomes on a device and not upload straight to the app. We lost a photo and had to repeat a recipe. Otherwise it was great!

Really high quality resources and delicious recipes- my 15 year old loves the DofE course and is planning to make some of the recipes again - he appreciated the technical advice too
Excellent course
The course covered a wide variety of dishes, cuisines and techniques which you built on throughout the course. Each dish received feedback from our tutor with suggestions on how to improve. I have a nut allergy and alternatives were either offered or ideas on other dishes were suggested which was really helpful. Being able to complete at my own pace and fit sessions around work was perfect for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and have learnt loads. The online sessions were really easy to follow but if there was one thing that would improve it might be a few hints and tips if something doesn’t work of just things that make a process easier to understand.
Great experience and good variety of recipes
My daughter had a great experience as a beginner and I also enjoyed it as I monitored her. The sessions were very well explained and the videos engaging. The only 2 things I would have loved to see: 1- have an estimate of how long the cooking session was going to take - we had a few very late diners!
2- Have the possibility of skipping one meal or of switching to another one (at least once) when you know you won’t be eating any of it - otherwise it’s just wasting food.

Brilliantly thought out and run course.
Signed up for the Chef Skills online 24 weeks course and I absolutely enjoyed it!! Communication and instructions from the moment I booked throughout the course has been brilliant, the platform used for the course (Workshop app) works fantastic and all the video tutorials and supporting information are very clear and detailed. Very professionally made and worth the price. A tutor is assigned to evaluate your work and assist throughout the duration of the course, and the possibility to interact with other course fellows makes the whole experience more engaged. I would highly recommend it!
Just brilliant- bread and patisserie course
Just brilliant. This is the third course I have taken with Leiths. The training, guidance and content all superb. If you truly want to learn about starting or continuing in the works of bread and patisserie, this is the place to do it.

I very much enjoyed doing this course and i felt my cooking skills certainly went up a notch. It allowed me to try things I probably would not have felt confident to do before.
As a novice cook
As a novice cook, this was an excellent course for my son's D of E Silver, building his confidence across an array of skills , producing several delicious meals that we all enjoyed as a family and recipes that he has revisited since .
Best decision I have made in a long time
I started the course wanting to improve my cookers skills, which were non existent, and look after myself better. The online element suited my availability and sessions were detailed and helpful. Angela our mentor was encouraging and helpful. Very, very pleased I did this and have signed up for a slightly more advanced course already.
