I’ve recently returned for Landal…

I’ve recently returned for Landal Barnsoul and stayed in an Orka 2.0 Duo Pet Friendly. We had booked for a week but came home a day early. Staff were very welcoming on arrival, and appreciate the welcome box and doggy treats.

The site will be lovely when it’s finished, but how long that will take is anyone’s guess, so in the meantime you will have to deal with pot holes, muddy roads and work being undertaken whilst you are there.

The lodge itself was spacious, beds very comfortable, and the lodge very warm. However, utensils well used and need replacing, no microwave in this day and age is ridiculous, as is no bedside table or dressing table/drawers in the bedrooms. Six hangers in the wardrobes and no drawers is not enough when you are staying for more than a couple of nights, nor is having to leave your glasses, mobile, etc, on the floor. Come on Landal you can do better.

Will I stay at Barnsoul again, probably not.

Landal Nørre Nebel

Landal Nørre Nebel har lavet en ny regel hvor alle børn under 5 skal have ble og særlige badeble på også.. Jeg syntes det er under kritik at man skal ydmyge sit barn på næsten 5 år og give ham ble på igen, efter at have ble fri over 2 år.. Det må simpelthen kunne laves anderledes eller en grænse som er under 4 år, altså 3år.. børn over 4 og hvert fald tæt på 5 har som regel ikke gået med ble længe.. Mit barn var ulykkelig over gerne at ville bade, men ville ikke nedgraderes til at tage ble på..

Booking was easy

Booking was easy, rang three days before booking to confirm a few additional things as this was a surprise for daughter’s 21st birthday and her partner. Unfortunately on the day of the booking (6hours before check in) they ring to say they had double booked and the other booking was made before mine so they have to honour their booking. I’d booked three weeks prior to date. Could offer additional parks (3 hours away)…. Absolutely unacceptable, we now have nothing to give our daughter on her special day as nowhere else bookable at short notice.

Avoid!!!


From the outset, our arrival was problematic. The welcome pack was incomplete, and the cottage had a strong musty and damp smell. We were advised by reception that the property may have been vacant for some time and were told to open windows and turn on the heating to try and resolve this issue.

Later that evening, we discovered there was no hot water and no heating. The boiler was displaying an error code, and despite repeated attempts, we were unable to contact anyone using the emergency number provided. With a five year old child with us, we had no choice but to spend a considerable amount of time researching and resolving the boiler issue ourselves, which was both stressful and wholly inappropriate during what was meant to be a relaxing short break.

Throughout the night the boiler subsequently lost pressure again, appeared to be leaking, and required further attention. When the maintenance team attended to assess the boiler, they expressed concern about its behaviour and advised that a gas engineer would need to be called first thing on Monday. In the meantime, we were required to continue monitoring the boiler ourselves and repeatedly topping up the pressure in order to maintain heating and hot water.

In addition, upon closer inspection of the cottage, we noted visible damp marks, a noticeable build-up of dust, and general wear and tear throughout. Cleanliness was also a concern, as our child found an empty Coke can under the sofa, which further reinforced that the property had not been cleaned to an acceptable standard prior to our arrival.

One of the main deciding factors for booking this accommodation was its appearance and facilities, particularly the swimming pool. Unfortunately, this was another area of disappointment. The pool was far too cold to be enjoyable, and as a result we cancelled the remaining swimming sessions we had booked, which was extremely disappointing, especially for our five year old child.

Whitbarrow Village reception and manager are aware of our concerns they have acknowledged the issues and apologised. While they offered a £100 restaurant voucher as a gesture of goodwill, this did not align with our plans due to the restaurant opening times of 1200-1800, and we were advised that any monetary refund would need to be handled directly by Landal.

Landal have been less than helpful with compensation for this dreadful experience.

Avoid - prices do not portray the quality you would expect!

Bleach hut

Just to remind you all never use this company hired a lodge new years weekend it was holiday from hell a bleach hut all you could smell all weekend end was bleach even thought it’s a echo lodge the cleaning company soaked everything in bleach and Landal didn’t care one bit please a oil at all costs

read the reviews this is the same poor customer service in all parks which we have experienced the same poor service twice now where they do not know the truth and make up excuses all the time we paid for accaomdation that we did not recieve and so now going to start a court claim against them for misleading information and failing to inform do not book with landal who are just a booking agent

if you want a super quiet break away…

if you want a super quiet break away from everything and everyone this is for you, my wife and i just got back from a break today in Barnsoul lodge number 3, it was us and the two dogs, super clean, fantastic lodge(no doggy smells) and the staff were great and friendly, we had an issue with a leak that came down the lounge wall in what was the worst three days of rain i think i've ever seen, they are new lodges , there will be some teething issues, and we didnt consider it a deal breaker as the staff came immediately and provided extra towels as it was out of office hours, and very next morning as soon as they started shift someone was up the ladder sealing the leak, (appeared to be a job well done ) hot tub was one of the fiercest ive ever used (brilliant ) and i have to say this is a very dog friendly park with poo bins on the paths and cleaned /emptied daily by the look of it:) i wouldnt bring any kids here to be fair as there is nothing for them (a plus point for many i'd say ) and the nearest shops are about 7 mile away, but for total peace and a great base for a dog walking lodge it's very good, just one small negative...like everyone else has said, it 100% needs a microwave ! we will be back once the resort has grown a bit and has more to offer.

You do not get what you pay for

You do not get what you pay for. AVOID! You may think you're booking gyms, spas, jacuzzis etc. We arrived, hardly anything worked or was open. They didn't handle my complaint at all. I would never use this company again. You do not get what you pay for. Avoid!

Not suitable for children

Stayed at Barnsoul with our son. 2 grandchildren & dog October 2025 for the weekend. The cabin inside is lovely. Very clean, spacious & well equipped. However outside is very different. The windows were so dirty could hardly see out them, the decking was dirty, overgrown through the boards in places & completely covered in cobwebs. The outside furniture was dirty & unable to sit on. It’s such a shame as although there’s the wow factor on the inside the outside does spoil it. There nothing for children to do at the park which we knew before coming & little football part/play park about 1 mile on the road. TV signal was very poor so bring your own options & ensure you have a cable extension if needed.

There was an employee whizzing around the park in a green van at such a speed gave us a fright one of the times. Shop has nothing of interest & only open for short periods of time.

I wouldn’t recommend this park to be honest which is a shame as we were hoping it might be somewhere we’d return to often.

Rockingham Forest Park – Loyalty Means Nothing Here

I have visited Rockingham Forest Park more than ten times over the years, and until now, I have always recommended it as a relaxing and family-friendly escape. Sadly, this most recent visit has shown just how little loyalty means to them and how badly they fail when it comes to genuine customer service.
When I raised a complaint about another guest blasting offensive music — complete with explicit, unsuitable lyrics — I expected the staff to step in, especially given the “family-friendly” image they push. Instead, I was brushed off with a patronising, template-like email that effectively told me to confront the guests myself, or simply wait until 11 pm before they would even consider intervening. In other words, if you’re here with children, you just have to tolerate the noise and inappropriate language all day long.
This isn’t “policy,” it’s abdication of responsibility, when I asked to be moved away from the disruption and was ignored. Their idea of “help” is to press a button after hours and hope a maintenance worker eventually shows up. No accountability, no action, and no respect for paying guests.
It is insulting to dismiss the comfort and safety of long-term, repeat visitors with such a lazy, copy-and-paste excuse. Rockingham Forest Park clearly values disruptive guests over loyal families, and their customer service is nothing short of disgraceful.
After over ten stays here, I will not be returning. If you are looking for peace, respect, or even basic hospitality, look elsewhere.

Excellent break

Emailed Rockingham forest a few times before arriving every en fil answerd promptly in a friendly manner

We had a great five day stay. The lodge was very hot for the first two days due to the heatwave. Fans are supplied which helped somewhat. Our lodge was in a peaceful location overlooking fields and the woods at the side. Saw the deers, hares and squirrels in the woods from our lodge.Our 3 bed lodge was spacious and comfortable. Nice thick soft towels. Beds really comfortable. Hand wash, body wash supplied as well as milk, teabags and coffee. The hot tub got used every day and it was nice to sit out on the decking in the evening. Lots of walks to take our dog on the site and coming across lakes and more woods and wildlife. Such as deers montjac, hares squirrels and redkite

We enjoyed the food at the bistro on site, dog friendly inside and out. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Takeaway pizzas were good. It was the peaceful holiday we wanted.

Certainly will return

Absolutely shocking

Absolutely shocking. Arrived at the lodge number 4 and noticed straight away the gas was turned off(later to be informed no gas on the site but they provided hot plates instead). Next up the sauna did not work (temp never mover past 40 degrees) and the door to it did not shut properly. Then the hot was not working either (it was just a hot bath). Also there was not tv remote. We complained all this after 3 hours on day one. Someone came about 9.30pm and reset the sauna and said it would be reported with the door and hot in the morning. Day 2- had to go down to the office to complain and the reception staff said it was the first they heard about it. Handyman then came to the lodge and said the sauna needed a new heating elements that would need ordered and what we had was the best we could hope for. Then he called the “hot tub guy” on the walkie talkie who replied “what’s wrong with it now”. He arrived and said the hot tub manager was also the maintenance man and was going away to collect the part for the jets to work. We left it at that for the moment. I had booked a round of golf at Piperdam and it was also a disappointment as I was stuck behind a 5 ball with 2 golf carts sharing golf clubs. I walked off after 7 holes that took just over 2 hours to complete. By the end of day 2 no update or attempts to fix hot tub or sauna or sauna door. Disappointed and angry to have paid a premium for services not provided with very little communication and sounded like just being fobbed off. Day 3 back down to the reception to complain when Tracy the manager just gave the biggest brush off and said they should just get rid of the saunas because they are unreliable and suggested draining the hot tub and getting it fixed. We were offered 5% off for the sauna not working and 10% for the hot tub not working. She said this was standard for the cost of the lodges. We accepted this but was still very annoyed and frustrated at the complete incompetence that ruined our holiday. At the end of day 3 hot tub not drained or fixed and hot person who came around to check chemicals said he heard nothing about draining the hot tub. Sauna been abandoned and out of commission. decided to go out for a few drinks before dinner however the shower tripped the electricity in the lodge. Could this get any worse. We went for drinks and stood at the bar for 10mins waiting to get served. Loads of staff serving food but 1 person serving behind the bar who did not even turn around to say anything while making a cocktail. Poor service all round. We had 1 drink and decided not to stay for dinner. Ordered a takeaway Indian the was fantastic. Day 4 nothing done with hot tub or sauna. Avoided using the shower. Could not wait to leave. Genuinely the worst experience on every level. I have never experience such poor customer service and management. What a shame because we stayed about 3 weeks earlier in lodge 27 fir a couple of night and had nothing but a positive experience. It’s amazing how different this experience was. We will never be back ever again.

Slechte ervaring

We wisten dat het park auto luw was, maar even parkeren om de bagage uit te laden was al een dingetje. Want voor het huisje stilstaan op een smal weggetje. Niemand kan er dan nog langs. Vervelend.
Bij aankomst bleek geen linnenpakket aanwezig. Dat was wel besteld. Dus maar weer met de auto naar de receptie, alwaar ik een linnenpakket meekreeg.
In het huisje had de schoonmaakster inmiddels een linnenpakket op de trap gelegd. Voor niets naar de receptie gegaan dus.
In de keuken stond de koelkast uit. Maar weer naar de receptie gebeld en een medewerker van het park zou langskomen. De man wees geïrriteerd op een niet zichtbare schakelaar die uitgeschakeld was.
Gelukkig deed de koelkast het nu wel.
De verwarming stond uit en na onderzoek bleken alle radiatorkranen te zijn dichtgedraaid. In de loop van de week kwamen we erachter dat de kamertemperatuur niet door middel van de kamerthermostaat geregeld moest worden, maar door radiatorkranen open of dicht te draaien. Waardeloos en nog nooit meegemaakt.
De naast de slaapkamer opgehangen CV ketel hield ons regelmatig 's nachts uit de slaap.
Ontzettend irritant.
Deze ervaringen maakten dat we maar eerder naar huis zijn vertrokken.
Het was voor ons een teleurstellende ervaring en Landal onwaardig.
O ja, de dame bij de receptie zei nog dat als je wilt weten hoe alles werkt, je dat op internet moet uitzoeken. Niet te geloven.
Wij boekten regelmatig bij Landal parken maar dit was wel de slechtste ervaring......

We've been loyal Landal customers for years, enjoying their stunning parks across both Europe and the UK. Without fail, Landal consistently delivers a truly 5-star experience.

The parks themselves are always immaculate. The landscaping is beautiful and well-maintained, creating a relaxing and picturesque environment. The accommodations are equally impressive – spotlessly clean, modern, and well-equipped. It's clear that Landal prioritizes quality in every aspect of their parks.

What truly sets Landal apart is their incredible staff. From check-in to check-out, everyone is friendly, helpful, and goes above and beyond to ensure a memorable stay.

My only (very minor) wish would be for more of their European parks to offer Saturday to Saturday booking options, as this would make planning our holidays even easier. However, this is a small point in an otherwise flawless experience.

If you're looking for a top-tier holiday park experience, look no further than Landal. Highly recommended!

Negligent, selfish and irresponsible customer care

Despite asking for advice re a RED weather warning in Scotland, we were encouraged to make our journey to Landal North Lakes Lodges in Cumbria. Initially we were told our booking could be moved to another date but then this was not offered.

After an extremely dangerous and stressful journey, we were told that it was unsafe to use our hot tub and had to endure a power cut the following evening which lasted at least 16.5 hours (at which point we decided to leave early). We were left for 16.5 hours without hot water, heating, light sources and had to bin food/replace food. Whilst I am aware that power cuts can happen at any time, we were left to our own devices with zero support from the park owners. We ended up leaving after being freezing for 16.5 hours with no food or heat sources.

When we reached out to Landal we were offered a 30% refund which in no way reflects the horrendous time we had. Despite numerous attempts to get them to reconsider their offer of compensation, we have been left ignored.

Fraudsters

Fraudsters ! There are close to 200 of us who invested in the park by buying a lodge. They took the money and have denied the validity of the contracts, hidden the money and carry on renting the units out to holiday makers. Police are involved. Don’t even support these crooks by staying there !

Poor Customer Service and Dubious Business Practices

Sadly I have now given up on trying to get my refund on this booking. This company took my deposit of £254.85, and made me pay for another full booking to go on a bigger bungalo on the same wk! They didn't reply to my multiple email complaints, and spent hours trying to speak to them. They answer to you in Dutch, and when you ask for English they hang up. This was my written complaint: "I’m the sole breadwinner of a family with 3 little girls including a child with Down’s syndrome. My husband is disfunctionally depressed and has a heart problem. I missed the email requesting the payment if my first booking and as I was desperate to go on holidays and made arrangements with another family I still went ahead and booked a bigger bungalo with you the same wk. You have refused to refund my deposit for the original booking (815338438) because of the fine letters of your T&Cs., but I’m begging you to please reconsider as I still booked a holiday with you that same wk and spent even more money with you on the same wk. On top of everything one of your employees crashed our car with one of your carts causing severe damage as we were getting ready to departure. This caused a tremendous amount of additional stress and bureaucracy speaking to the insurance company multiple times. What was supposed to be a fun holiday turned into a nightmare. Please be human and considerate and reconsider returning us the original deposit amount of £254.85 which is not much money for your business, but it’s 2 weeks worth of food shopping for my family…. Depending in the outcome of this request I’ll make a decision in whether or not to use Landal as a vacation destination in the future. Happy to discuss further over the phone. Loved the situation in North Yorkshire

Loved the situation in North Yorkshire. The lodge was very clean and the hot tub was a bonus. The locality was superb with visits to Bird of Prey Centre, North Yorkshire Railway and Scarborough. Used the swimming pool which was superb.
Our only issues were the double bed was a little uncomfortable, no teapot and was unaware to ask for a clothes airer on arrival, as we were in a smaller lodge and it was not provided.

Underhanded and dishonest practices

We booked a Landal holiday via hoseasons for December 2024. Paid the advertised price and booking confirmed. A few weeks later we get a call from hoseasons advising Landal made an error in their pricing and are demanding another £700 to keep our booking. Absolutely shocking behaviour by both parties and will avoiding using them in the future.
