I’ve loved the program but the only thing that I’m not a fan of is the fact that we have to pay the entire program in full within 4 months of being hired. Trying to catch up on other finances now that I finally get salary pay, this has just added another stressor on top of everything else. I wish we had more time to pay off the program and still get certified. Just something to consider!

The Zoom meeting with Michael Johnson was very informative. He answered every question and the other students were more than willing to assist the other students with their questions.

A singular course should not cost $4000. That is just awful to expect people to pay that much to become a teacher. I have never taken a singular college course that has cost that much. Furthermore, there needs to be reminders about due dates for important things preferably sent to emails. I had no idea there was a deadline to get all of the coursework completed for the fall semester to count toward certification. With how much this course costs, I would expect it to ensure that all candidates are aware of those deadliens.

I love to share my experience with anyone who will listen. I started as a Head Start teacher and worked there for over 10 years. Early Childhood Education has always been my passion. Both my mother and sister were Head Start teachers. Building positive relationships with families is critical for bridging the gap between home and school. Head Start prides itself on providing quality experiences to its families. In my opinion, the only way to achieve this is by being well informed on "THE WHOLE CHILD" My Head Start Program happened to be on the same campus as a small private school. The administrative staff had been watching my work and offered me a position as a Kindergarten teacher. I accepted and my main goal was to learn as much as possible to provide the experience for my students and their families. I decided to get my masters in Elementary Education. While working on that one of the teachers suggested I get my certification. After researching a few alternative certification programs I felt iTeach would be the best fit for me. I was able to complete my master's program, raise three children, and work full-time. Working at my own pace was key. The class prepared me for things that I was experiencing in the classroom. While preparing for the praxis tests I often found the information that I was studying in the course work from the iTeach program. Isn't that awesome!!! iTeach took the guesswork out of what I needed to do and when. The assignment rubrics set clear guidelines for what was expected. All assignments were met with positive feedback and suggestions if resubmission was required. The required reading of Who's doing the work? still sits in the top drawer on my desk as a reminder. We want our children to be self-sufficient. This will only happen when we let them explore and experience learning in their way. Giving them the tools to succeed and being more of a support system for them while allowing for mistakes to be made. The field experience was scary and exciting at the same time. Being able to watch myself and reflect on the good and what needed improvements made a difference in the way I approached teaching.

If you want a helpful program, it's not for you. Read the contract very carefully. Only enroll if you're 101% sure you want to be a teacher for years. And if you want to be a teacher for years, this will not help you become a good teacher. So no reason to enroll.

The Alternate Teaching program has been a godsend. The simplicity of the program requirements were easily spelled out. Teachers and program administrators were very accessible and responsive. Program cost were very affordable due to the structure of the monthly payments and low enrollment fee. Due to its self-paced curriculum this program fits easily into a busy lifestyle. By the end of the year I will finish the program and have my paperwork processed to receive my regular teaching certification. Thank you iteach Louisiana.

This has been a very challenging and eye opening experience. I appreciate the variety of the courses. I also like the way it makes you emphasize time management between life and certification. It made me think about my classroom environment and teaching strategies. Most of the instructors gave feedback, which was very helpful.

iteach offers a rigorous but valuable alternative certification program that has definitely prepared me for my entry in to education. The coursework did challenge me at times, especially with the number of writing intensive assessments. It had been years since I had written research papers, book reports, essays, etc; and as challenging as I found these assignments at times, I began to see the value in the writing assignments and now see how well prepared they made me for my first teaching experience. I only had to reach out to iteach directly a couple of times, but I was always able to get a response from someone when I had a question. I also appreciate the quality of the field supervisors that iteach employs, as my iteach field supervisor, Ms. Reed, has been an invaluable source of experience and insight during my field experience.

I have enjoyed going through this program. Each module has been beneficial to my performance in the classroom. Everyone has been so helpful to answer questions and help with any issues I have had throughout this journey. I am in the ending phase of 5700 and so ready to complete this process. Thank you for helping me fulfill this mission and lifelong dream.

I feel like this program is a waste of time if your degree is in education. It also doesn’t allow pre k job placement. Some assignments took a while to grade. I feel
Like you should be able to open more up at a time. I live rural and would try to read everything then write at home. The last class doesn’t allow you to open until each thing is submitted and it is extremely frustrating and takes way longer.

I wasted a year of my life and thousands of dollars for the opinion of one person to tank the whole thing. I paid another $500 to seek a second field experience, and have since had zero support in securing said field experience. The whole experience has generally soured me on organized education in general, sadly.

There is lots of information to help guide you through the program. All interactions I have had with instructors or other departments has been positive and my questions are answered quickly. My field instructor has been AMAZING! She has given me lots of advice to help make me the best teacher I can be!

This has been one of the most complicated experiences I have ever had. The information is jumbled and hard to find. Instruction lacks and the "Coaches" are almost impossible to get ahold of. If I have questions I never get a clear response and it is never timely. I had high hopes but after working in my 5700 class and noticed the instructor couldn't produce a grammatically correct sentence I was worried.

I finished all of my coursework and paid for the whole course in full and then they said I couldn’t be certified because I took too long to complete it. So I’m out 5 grand and have no certification. I quit teaching and I’m never going back.

The amount of coursework required is a bit ridiculous! I already went to school and did all this work for my education degree. It’s very frustrating to repeat it all and feel like I’m back in school when it’s a certification program. Also, frustrating that you have to do the coursework before you can take the exams. The coursework does NOT help prepare you for a test. Other cert programs do not require the work be done first before you’re approved to test. And they don’t have as many assignments. If you’re working full time and have a family, keeping up with this coursework is exhausting, and almost impossible. Trying to become a teacher has been one of the most stressful and frustrating processes I’ve ever experienced in my life. This program does not explain the steps well or the process. I’ve had to call so many times to get answers to questions and know what to do next and had I not called I would have done it wrong. That and the hours the call center is available are limited as well for working people. I will say the best and quickest way to get info/answers is by email. I’m in my observation stage of my cert now 5700 and I have no idea what to do regarding coursework as no one has told me and it’s not very clear online. My assigned observer was wonderful and very nice though. I’m looking forward to working with her. Looking back now, I’d probably go through the Texas Teacher program over i teach. Just been very disappointed in the lack of direction and the amount of unnecessary work required through this program. Especially for individuals who already went to school for education and already did this work.. There really should be a fast track option for people like myself who don’t need to re-do work I’ve already completed through a 4 year degree program. I can’t wait to be done with this cert program and be fully certified to teach and move on. I’m tired of being exhausted and feeling like I have a second job while actively teaching.

Way too much course work! I don’t know why you guys require essays instead of just quizzes. People need a life outside of work and to place these essays on them is too much! When will they ever get time to spend with their family? I thought it was a self paced course but they placed a deadline on my coursework 3 months before 4 different courses are due. Wish i would have know about it sooner.

No communication, confusing on what steps need to be done, edited material had mispellings and mistakes, delays in paperwork

Worst educational experience I have ever had. I have three degrees and this program did very little to prepare me for the classroom and good luck speaking to anyone. It has been a complete waste of time and money.
