H.S.Johnson was established in 1946 after the end of the Second World War. Herbert Samuel Johnson was a watchmaker before the war and his skills were put to use repairing aircraft instruments as an RAF Sergeant in those bleak times of war. Whilst stationed at Fradley he met and married his sweetheart Violet, whose father was the Editor of the Lichfield Mercury, and after wartime had ended they decided to stay local and opened their business in Rugeley ( Pic 1 ) where it still resides today. In the early days when rationing was still in effect the shop consisted of trading from wartime utility tables, a far cry from todays shop. In 1951 Michael Samuel Johnson was born on the premises and would grow up to follow his father into the watchmaking trade. At 14 he started tinkering with clocks and at 16 was working in the shop full time with day releases to college to gain the relevant qualifications. By 21 he had passed his 3 year course at the School of Jewelry and Silversmiths in Birmingham, after which he worked full time in the shop as a watchmaker. Today he still runs the shop and carries out the repairs. He can be seen playing behind his dad's car in the picture from 1957 ( Pic 2 ). In fact the family has a rich history of watchmaking, Michael is 4th generation and his father 3rd. Before this Herbert's father also called Herbert was a watchmaker in London and Hove, he also taught watchmaking at a London University and during this time built 3 clocks, one of which we still have in the shop, these clocks are totally hand made, every part, truly amazing to see and hear. It doesn't stop there either, his father, James Johnson, was manager of Pickett's in Oxford Street in London and Michael's great great uncle was William Johnson who was responsible for the repair and maintenance of the clocks at Hampton Court Palace in Victorian Days. I’ve returned a watch for repair on 08/09/21 and still no news about it. They’re are gonna reply to this saying Covid bla bla bla, but the truth is this is a f***ing scam. I have absolute no need about it ever since. Send me proof this was sent to your supplier for repair. Send me the status of it.
I’m warning you people, DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY WITH THIS COMPANY!!!!

Perhaps, just perhaps it's the truth ?
We have answered every message you have sent us have we not ?
Warranty departments ( which isn't us by the way but the brands service centre we have to send it to ) have huge backlogs, skeleton staffing, covid sickness shortages and then on top of that if they need to order parts in for the repair the same issues are involved with who they get the part from and the couriers involved, multiplying the issue many times.
Sometimes the truth is the truth and you have to accept that, especially when there is a worldwide pandemic and things currently are worse than they have been at any stage on it.
When we get the item back we will get it back to you.

Excellent customer service
HS Johnson had the watch I wanted at the best price, it was delivered in a couple of days. The watch wasn't for me, so I returned it and they refunded me immediately without any delay. THAT is good service, so on this occasion I didn't buy a watch but based on the service of being able to return something without any hassle, I have confidence in the company and undoubtedly will buy from them in the future and they wouldn't have to be the cheapest because I can rely on them.

Excellent service and product- definitely recommend!
I recently purchased an Elliot Brown watch from this company, initially driven by their competitive price, but given the high cost of item was still concerned whether the company were ok. I’m extremely pleased to say the watch was delivered very securely and promptly and is of excellent quality. I had cause to contact customer services via email, which in my experience is the real test of a company- again they have been brilliant, they responded straight away were very helpful. I look forward to purchasing from them again and definitely recommend them to others

That's not entirely accurate, the item is delivered, to the address given at order time, verified by GPS tracking, so we have asked the courier to look into it and await there outcome

I only just ordered so I haven't received yet but it all seems very legitimate and professional. The item was posted and tracking number received within the day. With so many scams and postage delays around lately I was just glad they were legit and posted my item promptly.

Ordered a watch on Sunday and it arrived a day earlier than expected in seemingly good order. Not had it out just yet but all well packaged.
Royal mail let the side down a little when I caught the postie putting it down at my door and walking away, no door bell rang and it was a tracked and signed for parcel.
Could have easily been stolen had I not seen him out of a window as was expecting the item with it being tracked.
I would purchase again from HS Johnson just wary about high value items being left at a door with no attempt to ring a door bell.

Excellent service, brilliant price
Ordered a watch from this jeweller - amazing price compared to the same watch from Watches of Switzerland or most luxury jewellers. It was sent out next day, packed up very well with all papers and fully insured. I had excellent communication from the seller, who was extremely accommodating and helpful. I would certainly use them again and recommend to all. I can only assume that some of the previous moany feedback was left by customers who didnt really know what they were ordering - if they're disappointed with the actual product they ordered, there's not much the seller can do about that. I found them to be really good, honest and reputable.

I recently purchased a watch from your website. The prices are competitive; the delivery details were clearly communicated.
I anticipated a delay with delivery considering the pandemic problems and workload RM are managing, but it was pretty much one working day.

Long delivery time and empty warranty card
Bought a watch from Black Friday sale as a Christmas present. Delivery time to Finland was very long, almost four weeks. Another watch I ordered from UK on Black Friday arrived the next working day.
Another thing I wasn't satisfied with was the warranty card. They promise on their web page to deliver the watch with full paperwork, but the warranty card wasn't filled, it was completely empty. When I asked them about they said I could send the warranty card to them so they would fill it out and send it back to me. However, I don't think it is very convenient to wait for two months for the warranty card to make a roundtrip.
The watch itself is very nice, but I won't be ordering again from H.S. Johnson.

Glad to hear you received your item.
We are in a worldwide pandemic, at Christmas, it was delivered by your national mail carrier which is where most of the delay came from, i would guess they are struggling, your other order was clearly not with them but a courier although next working day from the UK to Finland sounds incorrect in any time let alone at the moment, we all need to realign our expectations a little and have some understanding for the challenges that are being faced out there, people are very ill and some are dying.
Warranty cards are not filled in anymore as the invoice with the package and emailed to you at purchase perform exactly the same function, we offered to do the card too for you and you declined.
