Worst bank/credit card experience of my lifetime.
⭐ 1/5
The irony of GBank posting on Facebook about teaching senior citizens how to protect themselves from fraud is hard to miss. Perhaps at their next “Fraud Bingo” event, they should include a square warning people about GBank’s own Visa card.
GBank abruptly closed my account, citing “potential fraud,” without ever contacting me beforehand to ask about a transaction, verify my identity, or give me an opportunity to address whatever supposedly concerned them. I did not even receive the Adverse Action Notice explaining the alleged concern until after the account had already been closed.
The result? GBank also forfeited $424.82 in rewards that I had legitimately earned.
Making matters worse, trying to get answers from GBank has been an exercise in frustration. Phone calls go unanswered, voicemails are not returned, and emails receive no response. For a financial institution that publicly promotes fraud awareness and consumer protection, that level of communication is especially concerning.
Think about that while reading their Facebook post about educating consumers on scams and fraud: a bank closes a customer’s account over unspecified “potential fraud,” provides no meaningful opportunity to resolve the supposed issue, keeps hundreds of dollars in earned rewards, and then seemingly makes itself unavailable when the customer tries to get an explanation.
I fully understand that banks have an obligation to monitor accounts for fraud and suspicious activity. What I don't accept is using a vague fraud concern as justification for closing an account without meaningful communication and then confiscating earned rewards in the process.
So, since GBank is publicly encouraging consumers to maintain “a healthy dose of skepticism,” I would suggest consumers apply that same skepticism when considering GBank and its Visa card.
Based on my experience, I would never do business with GBank again under any circumstances.
