7/2/26 I called First Citizens regarding a need for a claim to be opened against a company due to a need for a chargeback. Banks can reverse a payment if you used a credit card or debit card for an issue such as mine which was due to: Defective or Misrepresented service The product or service significantly different from what was described defective or broken. Since this was the case with me.
I did on my own the first steps which was to:
Try the merchant first: which I did. I contacted the business through multiple emails as a first to attempt a resolution. I also text messaged multiple times my concerns and have their documented replies. I Documented my attempts (emails, screenshots, call logs).
People typically have 120 days or more to file a dispute.
I Provided evidence by emailing the receipts and proof that the item/service was not received.
The 1st claim opened was by a woman who barely spoke English & she entered it wrong.
2nd claim cancelled 1st, tried again a man that barely spoke English clearly in another country.
Called again, 3rd claim cancelled 2nd claim.
Got a call from the bank to verify 3rd claim, correction, to discover another incometant documentor and canceled 3rd claim to open a 4th claim.
By now the bank is like whats going on. So they Lock my account. I get the provisional charge back credit for corrected 4th claim but now my account is locked and I am being locked out of my account. Called and harrassed by the bank for doing, this.
I have no idea why they are on top of me about this when I am the one suffering and needing my dog to get specialist care from a diff dr.
I call 7/12/16 to complain and provide verbal clarification I am told tomorrow it will unlock it was locked as a security, but they were gonna remove it.
I call 7/13/26 to follow up why account still locked, get the same run around.
7/14/26 Reached out again to the CEO and Joy Fisher, called me from bank Fraud department to get my clarification that all is good, she told me she would communicate with team to unblock my account/3 hrs later, account still blocked.
I need my account.
They know I am disabled, and now it is starting to feel a lot like descrimination. They asked me a lot about a previous claim for a item that got reversed did I tell the bank I got the credit back I said yes, the lady then replies with why did younot tell the bank I am trying to explain to her that I did but not by phone call but she is yelling at me on the phone bc she has herself on speaker phone. I need this resolved today by 4pm!!!! I neeedd access to my account. I feel like my freedom has been hyjacked due to incompetant claim intake people bc they are working from foreign countries with poor phone systems not compatible with the systems in the USA. Why do I have to suffer?

I currently have business relations with three other banks and have dealt with many over the years. First Citizens Bank has the worst customer service of any bank I’ve ever dealt with, bar none. They can’t seem to do even the simplest thing right, like closing the account. Adding insult to injury they tried to charge me a fee to close my account.

As a First Citizens bank customer for the past 23 years, I am telling you STAY AWAY from this bank! Had a fraudulent entry on two of my credit cards earlier this month. The credit cards took care to nullify the entries. I then called FCB and informed them that my Business Visa was potentially involved as well. Was told that since there was no fraud at the time, that they would monitor my account and prevent any unusual entries. A week later and $4500+ later in two fraudulent entries, I contacted the bank. Now one week after notifying them, I am still waiting for my money to be replaced. Do not trust their Zero fraud liability claim. I will be closing all my accounts once the money is replaced. Poor customer service!

I haven't used my account in a couple of months. I opened an account with another bank because First Citizens does not have a location in Burlington, NC. I signed in online and this bank thinks they are entitled to my hard earned money. I maintained a balance > 1k, but they are deducting $18 per month (I assume for inactivity). I will close my account and good riddance to this unethical bank!!!

Totally bad experience when I switched my phone number. I will be changing to SECU. They were not helpful and kept connecting me to a bot.
Thanks for your reply on this website as it feels quite for show. I have asked for a reply on your app and never received due to multiple $25 and $5 charges that were never discussed during my sign on. Im happy to screenshot those if that is helpful.

Took money out of my account put it in the negative made me pay fees and some they charnge my account on my app when I called them verified many many times like to ever get past that they said fist thing after that it's your fult they said and going to do nothing about issues at hand now they changed my password will not let in told them and I couldn't get in it they tried to over look it and said I didnt say anything about it

Terrible Experience, Poor Customer Service, Doesn't return phone calls in a timely manner, Does not follow through with documentation, Poor English Communication, Several Mistakes on the Loan Status Update and Closing Information, Doesn't reveal Terms of Mortgage Loan until it's too late to change anything, Evasive in communication.

My Fico is 833, never ever bounced a check with my AENB, NFCU, USAA accounts. But after reading so many bad reviews about CIT & FCB here on TrustPilot and the Apple App store, I am so glad I was rejected. I’ve never seen such bad reviews. Am wondering how many past/current customers have filed official complaints with tne Fed’s Consumer Financial Protection Agency.

I've been with First Citizens for almost 40 years and I financed several cars and 2 mobile homes and never missed a payment and never made a late payment ...if anything I paid them off early. I've been disabled since 1997 so it's not like I've got a huge savings account or a rainy day fund but all these years I've never left them hanging but the past few years have been tough and my credit sucks but not my FC account because I made sure I didn't screw them because I got loans when I shouldn't have and the branch manager said I don't know why but I trust you because my debt to ratio was pretty bad but that's the reason I've always made sure no matter what because I could be in that situation again but they don't do that anymore . But my check is guaranteed to hit on the 3rd of each month and I know it's the banks discretion on going into overdraft but I've been living like that for awhile and I usually take 3 overdraft a month for a total around $1400 & I always pay the $25 for using it on each overdraft for a total of $75. I usually take the 3rd overdraft just to eat off & never a problem and I don't take more than I can put in and it's never gone 30 days before my deposit goes through and up to about 5:years ago they would call to remind that my account needed to be taken care of and I said it'll be in the bank on the 3rd...Never had a problem all through the years but now the past 3 months they've closed my account twice . I did nothing wrong I used the service I pay my overdraft fees and my deposits still come on the 3rd of the month . But now they go by an algorithm and it does it saying I'm at high risk...And I am..But it's not looking for what I've done with FCB because if it did it would show that I never missed a single payment or had to make a late payment or all the times I've used overdraft and all the money was put back in less 30 days .. Ive been a loyal customer all these years and not even once had a problem . I needed that 3rd overdraft to pay my car insurance and have money to eat on till the end of the month.. So come Wednesday night midnite my insurance will cancel which will also flag my car to be repoed ..BECAUSE LOTALTY IS GONE AND IM BASED ON A AlGORITHM . SO THANKS FOR THE SCREWING ..OH DID I MENTION THEY DIDNT GET UP WITH ME TO EVEN TELL ME MY ACCOUNT WAS CLOSED & IT WAS ONLY 5 DAYS CAME NOWHERE NEAR 30 DAYS .

Switching my business banking to First Citizens Bank has been one of the most frustrating business decisions I’ve made.
For a bank that claims to support small businesses, the level of service has been unacceptable. Local representatives don’t answer, business lines go unanswered, and customer service offers little to no real solutions.
The entire experience feels outdated, inefficient, and disconnected from what modern businesses actually need.
As a business owner, I need a banking partner that values time, communication, and urgency. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience here.
If I could go back, I would have never made the switch.

After 8 months, I have finally managed to close my ailing sister's account and obtain for her the $5,000+ in it. A tiny amount for FCB, but not for her. This dreadful"bank" shows utter contempt for its "valued clients". Avoid it like the plague. It clearly has a cynical policy of stalling any attempt to pay out. We had to pay over $250 just to regain her hard-earned rightful property, and FCBB blandly refused any compensation. Good riddance to bad rubbish!

Went to a car dealership to buy a 2020 used car. We were only going to finance $13,000 after a 20% down payment. We told them we wanted to go with Capital One but the finance manager said he likes to check at least two banks. I wasn't happy that he did that because then it shows up on your credit report for at least 2 years. Capital One immediately offered us a 6.01% interest rate due to a credit score of 785, NO late pays, NO over the limit on any credit card ever, own our home with a ton of equity in it, great annual income, and 30 years of credit history. We got a letter of denial from these incompetents in the mail a week later. I didn't want the dealership to check with any other bank in the first place and now I have to get this insulting letter in the mail. I have NEVER been turned down for a loan in my life. They obviously have AI or people with zero experience making these decisions. Stay away!

There was a fraud alert on my account and when I called in I got a young lady named Kathy. Kathy was great she was able to see that there was attempted fraud charge and quickly resolve it. She verified updated my address she made sure I got a new card coming out to me. Kathy went over the process. I was truly happy with the experience she sound very knowledgeable she was very pleasant and understanding she too receive a scam text. I had a very good experience when speaking to Kathy it was like talking to one of my kids help me work through my little internet issues lol. I called the customer service line so I believe Kathy is part of customer service not an actual bank my number is 678-876-6177 I'm not sure you may pull my number and see who I spoke with it was for today which is the 11th of April and it was around 2:00 Eastern Time .I was trying to do the survey but for some reason we were disconnected once she hung up the phone so here I am go find Kathy give her a high five Stacey Duncantell

"HORRIBLE" does not even begin to describe just how incompetent and dysfunctional this bank is. STILL WAITING for an online transfer to clear. I was transferred back and fourth FOUR TIMES (branch to customer "service," customer "service" back to the branch, back to customer "service," back to branch). In all that waste of time, not a single answer. No one had the capability of even finding the transfer. I offered to send a screen shot documenting the transfer but was told they can't even manage to receive an email.

I had no problem with this bank until they started to acquire other banks. I've been a customer of their since I was 16. In the last year, I had support delete my account, lock me out due to mishearing a question on the phone, and just a general lack of competency with basic updates. I called to update my address and did so online and now 10 months later they are still sending mail to the incorrect address. They are also not notifying me when my bill is due just after it has passed even though all of my account notifications are on. This bank is an embarrassment I wouldn't trust them with your funds any longer. I've moved my funds to a credit union and have gotten exceptional service, better rates, and a much more responsive online platform.

I have two loans with this company. I provided insurance from the first day for both vehicles. They have been charging me insurance from day one. After raising hell with them, they assured me they would credit my account. Not give me back a check for the insurance. They helped themselves to the insurance payment. As of today, 02-19-2026, they still owe me the credit. of about $1475.00. I was told they just got the insurance canceled. So it might be a while until I see the credit. Yet I spoke with them in December, and they confirmed thwy had the insurance certificate from my insurance company.

First citizens bank on Old Doninion in Charlottesville VA is an extremely poorly managed bank with lazy irresponsible ignorant tellers and bank associates with zero customer service commitment and skills. Now they set limits on use of Zelle and access to money in accounts. I highly recommend that you avoid this bank. BTW the tellers openly make racist comments - it is so offensive and disrespectful. I am closing all four of my accounts tomorrow.
